  8. ABSTRACT          IBM Personal Application System/2 Version 3 fully exploits the
  9.            advanced features of OS/2 (R) Version 2 to provide multi-function,
  10.            data analysis solutions for the business professional.  When
  11.            installed on a personal computer, IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 can
  12.            operate across a LAN or WAN.  This provides access to a wide range of
  13.            data on host systems and personal computers, including access to
  14.            OS/2 Database Manager, DB2/2 (TM), OS/400 (R) Database, SQL/DS (TM),
  15.            DB2 (R) and heterogeneous data.
  16.                   IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 includes these integrated
  17.            functions:
  18.            o   Query - select, combine and summarize data from one or more
  19.                tables
  20.            o   Report - construct detailed or summary reports
  21.            o   Chart - graphically represent selected data
  22.            o   Table Edit - directly edit data
  23.            o   Graphical Procedure - automate repetitive procedures

  25.                   Users who develop solutions for others (builders) will benefit
  26.            from the many functions in IBM Personal Application System Builder/2
  27.            Version 3.  This product includes the capabilities of IBM Personal
  28.            AS/2 Version 3 as well as prototyping and application-creation
  29.            features.  These include:
  30.            o   Window Edit
  31.            o   Menu Edit
  32.            o   Program Edit - generate and edit code
  33.            o   Make - combine windows, menus and program code for execution.
  34.            Using the integrated functions, generated windows and menus can be

  90. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  91.                   IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 is available as:
  92.            o   A single license
  93.            o   A 5 pack
  94.            o   A 10 pack
  95.            o   A 50 pack.
  96.                   IBM Personal AS Builder/2 Version 3 includes a single copy of
  97.            IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 and a single copy of the Application
  98.            Development (TM) tools, which offers a powerful way to produce
  99.            customized applications.
  100.            ACCESS TO ENTERPRISE DATA
  101.            Within any business, many sources of data are available to the end
  102.            user or application developer.  This data is likely to be in
  103.            different places within the organization and in different
  104.            environments.  IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 gives easy access to a
  105.            wide variety of personal and enterprise sources.  IBM Personal AS/2
  106.            Version 3 can directly access OS/2 Database Manager and DB2/2.  In
  107.            addition, Distributed Relational Database Access (DRDA) is used to
  108.            directly access DB2, SQL/DS, OS/400 Database and remote
  109.            OS/2 relational data.
  110.            IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY
  111.            A consistent user interface increases productivity by providing a
  112.            common way of accessing different data sources.  Data from different
  113.            parts of the organization can be consolidated into a consistent
  114.            presentation format.  Users need to be educated in only one tool that
  115.            provides a broad range of functions:
  116.            o   Query -- select, combine and summarize data from one or more
  117.                tables
  118.            o   Report -- construct detailed or summary reports
  119.            o   Chart -- graphically represent selected data
  120.            o   Table Edit -- directly edit data when required
  121.            o   Graphical Procedure -- automate repetitive procedures

  123.                   In addition to providing comprehensive access to data, these
  124.            functions have been designed to be as easy to use as possible, by
  125.            exploiting the latest usability features within OS/2 V2.  For
  126.            instance, the table editor can directly edit on a field-by-field
  127.            basis; when editing is complete, the table can be dragged to the
  128.            report generator for automatic report generation.  Within the report,
  129.            extensive use of double-clicking is used, so that if a column heading
  130.            is double-clicked on, for instance, attributes such as formatting,
  131.            justification and conditions could be changed for that column.
  132.                   Comprehensive, task-oriented help facilities are included to
  133.            guide the user to the right action.
  134.            INVESTMENT PROTECTION
  135.            A facility allows customers of Personal AS/2 Version 2 to also run
  136.            Version 3 on the same machine.  Likewise, applications and procedures
  137.            developed with either Personal AS/2 Version 2 or IBM Personal AS DOS
  138.            for Windows (1) will run in the IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3
  139.            environment.

  141.            CREATION OF INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS
  142.            By using the application development features of IBM Personal AS
  143.            Builder/2 Version 3, customized solutions can be created that use the
  144.            different components of IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3.
  145.            ENABLING NEW APPLICATIONS
  146.            By using the powerful application development functions within IBM
  147.            Personal AS/2 Version 3, customized applications can be produced.
  148.            For instance, an application could be developed to simplify the
  149.            collection of data from various sources within an organization and
  150.            generate standard queries and reports.  The strength of IBM Personal
  151.            AS/2 Version 3 is that generated applications can incorporate the
  152.            integrated business tools, such as Chart, Report and Query with
  153.            little or no programming effort.
  154.                   Applications can be designed that map directly to current work
  155.            practices; for example, a report on the screen could mimic the paper
  156.            report currently used to perform the task, allowing it to be done
  157.            online with the aid of IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3.  This helps
  158.            ensure that work practices are performed consistently and that data
  159.            is accessed and collected in an accurate, reliable way.
  160.                   Users who develop solutions for others (builders) will benefit
  161.            from the many functions in IBM Personal AS Builder/2 Version 3, such
  162.            as a window editor, menu editor, automatically generated standard
  163.            blocks of code and compiler.  In addition, facilities are provided
  164.            for shared-code libraries and for the use of the clipboard at the
  165.            code block level, so the Builder can group objects in a window for
  166.            simultaneous editing.  A sample program debugger is included to
  167.            further enhance user productivity.
  168.                   IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 includes a Graphical Procedure
  169.            tool that allows users to simply drag and drop icons to generate a
  170.            procedure that executes a task over and over again.  This frees the
  171.            user to concentrate on tasks that are not repetitive in nature.
  172.            These automated procedures can include tasks that are performed by
  173.            other products that run in the OS/2 V2 environment.
  174.            INTEGRATION WITH OS/2 VERSION 2
  175.            IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 exploits the OS/2 workplace, so that
  176.            objects within the product, such as charts, reports and queries, can
  177.            be dragged and dropped onto OS/2 objects, such as Printer, Mail,
  178.            Shredder and Folder.
  179.            INTEGRATION OF BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
  180.            The use of dynamic data exchange (DDE) enables IBM Personal AS/2
  181.            Version 3 objects or applications to interact with other active
  182.            programs; for example, a range of cells from within a spreadsheet
  183.            such as Lotus (2) 123/G or Microsoft (1) Excel could be selected and
  184.            a link established, which will generate a graph of the data within
  185.            the chart function of IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3.  If the data in
  186.            the spreadsheet changes, the chart is automatically updated without
  187.            user intervention.
  188.                   Support of the clipboard has been expanded so that images,
  189.            text and data can be cut and pasted via the clipboard to other
  190.            applications in a number of industry-standard formats such as Text,
  191.            PM Metafile, Bitmap, TIFF, GIF, PCX, DBF and DIF.  Likewise, text and
  192.            data can be pasted from the clipboard into IBM Personal AS/2
  193.            Version 3.  The use of images and graphics created with other
  194.            personal computer applications can be incorporated into applications
  195.            developed with IBM Personal AS Builder/2 Version 3.
  196.                   IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 enables applications to be
  197.            developed that exploit the extensive function included within the
  198.            OS/2  operating system.
  199.                   The product supports office applications via vendor
  200.            independent messaging (VIM).
  201.                   IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 includes connectivity with Host
  202.            Application System via the Common Programming Interface --
  203.            Communications (CPI-C), which enables users to design interfaces to
  204.            host data without the need for emulators.  It is an efficient,
  205.            flexible and open method of accessing host data.
  206.            NOTE: To exploit this feature Application System/2 Version 3.2 is
  207.            required.  For earlier versions of Application System, SRPI can be
  208.            used.
  209.                   The Command object in IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 provides
  210.            client/server computing with Host AS.  For instance, Host AS can be
  211.            used as a server for data reduction before a query is executed on the
  212.            personal computer.

  241.            This CD is separately orderable using order number SK2T-0138; it will
  242.            be updated to include the IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 manuals by
  243.            December 1993.  These displayable manuals can be used with the
  244.            BookManager (R) READ licensed programs in any of the supported
  245.            environments.  Terms and conditions for use of the machine-readable

  247. TECHINFO   TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  248.            SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
  249.            MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:
  250.            o   Minimum machine -- personal computer or PS/2 (R) with 386
  251.                processor, appropriate display, graphics adapter and mouse
  252.            o   Recommended machine -- personal computer or PS/2 with 486
  253.                processor, appropriate display, graphics adapter and mouse
  254.            o   Recommended memory (in addition to OS/2 requirements) -- 8MB
  255.            o   Disk space requirement -- 10MB; this increases proportionally to
  256.                the amount of data stored within applications.
  257.            o   Additional disk space requirement for the application development
  258.                component of IBM Personal AS Builder/2 Version 3 -- 4MB
  259.            o   All printers and plotters supported by OS/2 2.1 will be supported
  260.                by IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3.
  261.            PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS:
  262.            o   OS/2 Version 2.1, or later, must be installed on the workstation.
  263.            o   OS/2 Version 2.1 is needed for the Japanese version.
  264.            o   For AS/400 (R) connection, IBM PC Support/400 Version 2.2 should
  265.                be installed on the AS/400 and the workstation.
  266.            o   For sending of report and chart specifications using VIM via
  267.                cc:Mail (2), the cc:Mail Platform Pack for OS/2 1.0 by Lotus is
  268.                required.
  269.            o   IBM SAA (TM) Distributed Database Connection Services/2 (TM)
  270.                (DDCS/2) must be installed for DRDA access to DB2, SQL/DS and
  271.                OS/400 relational data without the need for Application System.
  272.                DDCS/2 requires OS/2 Extended Services (TM).  For access to DB2/2
  273.                data, DDCS/2 Version 2.0 is required.  To do this, all database
  274.                products must be at the level providing DRDA support:  for DB2,
  275.                Version 2.3; for SQL/DS, Version 3.3.
  276.            o   For full exploitation of Host Application System with IBM
  277.                Personal AS/2 Version 3, Host AS Version 3 Release 2 should be
  278.                installed.  For host connectivity via CPI-C, Host Application
  279.                System 3.2 is required.  For Host AS/2 Version 2 Release 2 and
  280.                Version 3 Release 1 via SRPI, the new functions of the AS object
  281.                (SESSION VARIABLES, GET NEXT ROW and GO TO TOP) will be rejected
  282.                as not supported.  The following PTFs must be installed to ensure

  505.            o   Additional License Copies -- authorization  for the customer who
  506.                has a program package to make a single copy of the program
  507.                diskette and documentation.  There are two ways to receive
  508.                authorization to copy.  Receipt of the invoice authorizes the
  509.                customer to make the Additional License Copy (the ICA must be in
  510.                effect).  The customer also has the option of ordering a Proof of
  511.                Additional License certificate (the ICA is not required).
  512.            o   Documentation -- separate documentation without program
  513.                diskettes.
  514.            o   Program Package Upgrade  -- program diskette with documentation.
  515.            o   Additional License Copy Upgrade -- authorization  for the
  516.                customer who has a program package upgrade to make a single copy
  517.                of the program diskette and documentation.  Receipt of the
  518.                invoice authorizes the customer to make the Additional License
  519.                Copy upgrade (the ICA must be in effect).  The customer also has
  520.                the option of ordering a Proof of Additional License Upgrade
  521.                certificate (the ICA is not required).
  522.            PROGRAM UPGRADE
  523.                   The program package upgrade option allows currently licensed
  524.            users of Personal AS/2 Version 2 to obtain the new function for a
  525.            program upgrade charge.  The program upgrade to IBM Personal AS/2
  526.            Version 3 is available beginning October 8, 1993; orders will be
  527.            accepted after this date.  Upgrades apply between the following
  528.            products:
  529.            o   Personal AS/2 Version 2 to IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 (Single)
  530.            o   Personal AS/2 Version 2 to IBM Personal AS Builder/2 Version 3.
  531.            Orders will be accepted after October 8, 1993, on submission of the
  532.            original Proof of License.  For an upgrade to IBM Personal AS
  533.            Builder/2 Version 3, Proof of License from both Personal AS/2
  534.            Version 2 and Personal AS Development/2 is required.  The original
  535.            Proof of License is the colored front cover page (inside the hard
  536.            binder) or the separate Proof of License page in the program package
  537.            as identified by IBM.
  538.                   Customers may also order upgrades through the local IBM office
  539.            using the IBM Personal Computer/System Program IBM US Upgrade and
  540.            Certification Order Form included with this announcement.
  541.                   To receive program package upgrades at a discount, the ICA and
  542.            a Volume Discount Addendum with the appropriate volume discount
  543.            exhibit must be in effect.
  544.                   The order may only be placed through the local IBM office
  545.            using the IBM Personal Computer/System Program IBM US Upgrade and
  546.            Certification Order Form included with this announcement.
  547.                   To receive additional license upgrades at a discount for IBM
  548.            Personal AS Builder/2 Version 3, the ICA and a Volume Discount
  549.            Addendum with the appropriate volume discount exhibit must be in
  550.            effect.  The total quantity of upgrades acquired for a specific
  551.            program may not exceed the total quantity of program packages and
  552.            additional licenses previously acquired for that program.  Proof of
  553.            License for upgrade eligibility for additional license upgrades is a
  554.            copy of this invoice or previously acquired Proof of Additional
  555.            License certificate.
  556.                   Additional license upgrades can be entered through the local
  557.            IBM office using the IBM US Upgrade and Certification Order Form
  558.            included in this announcement or ordered through an authorized
  559.            remarketer.
  560.            TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  561.                   The terms for IBM Personal AS/2 Version 3 and IBM Personal AS
  562.            Builder/2 Version 3 are unaffected by this announcement.
  563.            CHARGES
  564.            NOTE: The part numbers announced in Software Announcement 293-129,
