  5. TITLE      CICS OS/2 VERSION 2.0 AVAILABLE

  7. ABSTRACT          CICS OS/2 (TM) Version 2.0 is available September 24, 1993.
  8.                   This announcement contains technical and other information in
  9.            addition to that in Software Announcement 293-171, dated
  10.            March 30, 1993.  Two significant product functions are added:
  11.            o   CICS OS/2 Version 2.0 is now enabled for installation by
  12.                unattended configuration, installation and distribution (CID).
  13.            o   By December 31, 1993, support for EBCDIC data will be available
  14.                for CICS OS/2 Version 2.0. via a Corrective Service Diskette
  15.                (CSD).
  16.                   CICS OS/2 Version 2.0 is enabled for unattended CID.
  17.            Unattended CID allows CICS OS/2 to be automatically configured,
  18.            installed and distributed across a large network from a central
  19.            location.  Installation and configuration options are read from a
  20.            pre-prepared response file, so there is no need for an operator to be
  21.            present at the remote machine.  The same process can also be used for
  22.            applying service updates.
  23.                   CICS OS/2 Version 2.0 will be enhanced by the addition of a
  24.            new facility to allow application data to be passed to and returned
  25.            from CICS OS/2 in EBCDIC format.  This allows a COBOL application
  26.            under CICS OS/2 to process data in an identical manner to a similar
  27.            application running under, for example, CICS/ESA (TM).  This function
  28.            will be provided by December 31, 1993, via a Corrective Service
  29.            Diskette, available on customer request.
  30.                   These functions are in addition to those published in Software
  31.            Announcement 293-171, dated March 30, 1993.

  52.                range of CICS-supplied transactions for administrative tasks
  53.            o   Exploitation of ASCII terminal clusters

  57. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  58.                   There are a number of enhancements to the level of CICS API
  59.            supported by CICS OS/2 Version 2, bringing it closer to that
  60.            supported by CICS/ESA Version 3.3.  There is also an extension to
  61.            signon security, enabling users to change their passwords.
  62.            VENDOR APPLICATIONS
  63.            Over 50 systems integrators and independent software vendors have now
  64.            joined the CICS OS/2 Version 2 vendor program with the intention of
  65.            providing products or services that exploit or are compatible with
  66.            the CICS OS/2 Version 2.0 platform.  These products include Business
  67.            Applications and Application Development (TM) tools including
  68.            Graphical User Interface tools and services.
  69.                   IBM maintains an up-to-date list of these independent software
  70.            vendors and systems integrators.  To obtain information, contact your
  71.            IBM representative.
  72. TECHINFO   TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  73.            SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
  74.            MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:  Machine requirements are unchanged from those
  75.            published in Software Announcement 293-171, dated March 30, 1993.
  76.            PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS:  The following information is in addition
  77.            to that published in Software Announcement 293-171, dated
  78.            March 30, 1993.
  79.                   CICS OS/2 Version 2.0 single-user and multi-user servers run
  80.            under either OS/2 Version 2.0 or OS/2 2.1.  When run under
  81.            OS/2 Version 2.0, they require the operating system to be at least
  82.            Service Level XR06055.
  83.                   The sample command files included in CICS OS/2 are written in
  84.            REXX, and so if they are used as supplied the REXX option of OS/2
  85.            should be installed.
  86.                   Users of CICS OS/2 Version 2.0 can gain the advantages of the
  87.            advanced technology, fault tolerance, high performance and high
  88.            availability of the PS/2 (R) Model 195.  OS/2 2.1 is required for
  89.            this machine.
  90.                   CICS OS/2 Version 2.0 will also run on the PS/2 Model 295.
  91.            OS/2 Version 2.1 is required for this machine.
  92.            LIMITATIONS:  The number of clients that can be connected to a server
  93.            machine running CICS OS/2 Version 2.0 multi-user has a maximum of 254
  94.            per LAN adapter.  Up to two LAN adapters may be used per server.  The
  95.            actual number of clients that may be concurrently connected is
  96.            dependent on system resources.
  97.            PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS:  Performance data is available
  98.            September 24, 1993.  To obtain information, contact your IBM
  99.            representative.

  101.            PACKAGING:
  102.            SOFTWARE SERVICES AND SUPPORT:  Extended support for CICS
  103.            OS/2 Version 2.0 is available for customers who require support
  104.            beyond that included in the product terms and conditions.  Examples
  105.            of extended support include items such as application design review,
  106.            problem determination education, installation assistance, performance
  107.            tuning, application problem assistance, and cross platform usage
  108.            information.
  109.                   If extended support is required, contact your IBM
  110.            representative.
  111.            SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
  112.                   User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and
  113.            implementation of security features, administrative procedures and
  114.            appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  115.            facilities.
