  7. ABSTRACT          The IBM Local Area Network Home Office Program (LANHOP/6000)
  8.            Version 1 provides a connection from a user's remote computer to a
  9.            LANHOP/6000 gateway allowing users to access their office LAN
  10.            workstation from their home or on the road.
  11.                   The LANHOP/6000 package provides a gateway server program that
  12.            runs on a RISC System/6000 (R).  OS/2 (R) Presentation Manager (R)
  13.            and DOS programs that run on the remote workstation are also
  14.            provided.  These programs establish a modem connection with the
  15.            LANHOP/6000 gateway.  Host and/or LAN applications can then be
  16.            accessed remotely and executed.
  17.                   This product provides users access to their workstations from
  18.            home or anywhere there is a telephone.  The remote workstation can be
  19.            an OS/2 workstation with transmission control protocol/internet
  20.            protocol (TCP/IP), a DOS workstation with TCP/IP, or a DOS/Windows
  21.            workstation with TCP/IP.  A RISC System/6000 running AIX (R) Version
  22.            3 with TCP/IP may also be utilized as a remote workstation.  Host
  23.            access is also provided to VM running TCP/IP or MVS running TCP/IP.

  48. OVERVIEW   DESCRIPTION
  49.            REMOTE LAN ACCESS CONNECTIVITY
  50.            Finally, a solution to the problem of providing users access to their
  51.            office workstations from home or on the road...  LANHOP/6000.
  52.                   LANHOP/6000 provides cross platform remote access capability
  53.            to the following:
  54.            o   Connection to a PC on the LAN and mirroring of a full screen
  55.                session (token ring or Ethernet LAN)
  56.            o   Connection to a mainframe host session.
  57.                   Remote connecting platforms may be OS/2, DOS, or DOS/Windows.
  58.            GROWTH ENABLEMENT -- CONNECTIVITY IMPROVEMENTS
  59.            LANHOP/6000 provides a secure connection from a user's remote
  60.            computer to a LANHOP/6000 gateway.  This link allows users to access
  61.            their office LAN workstation from home or on the road.  The programs
  62.            at the remote end will establish a modem connection with the
  63.            LANHOP/6000 gateway.  The remote programs and the LANHOP/6000 gateway
  64.            program cooperate to establish a secure link via the SLIP component
  65.            of TCP/IP.  Once the secure link is established, the OS/2 LANHOP/6000
  66.            programs are no longer in the picture and the remote OS/2 or DOS
  67.            TCP/IP is left connected via SLIP to the network via the LANHOP/6000
  68.            gateway.
  69.            GROWTH ENABLEMENT -- REDUCED ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  70.            By providing remote LAN and host access, LANHOP/6000 enables a
  71.            work-from-home concept which could ultimately reduce space and
  72.            facilities requirements.  This reduction could provide significant
  73.            cost savings.
  74.            END-USER PRODUCTIVITY -- IMPROVED WORKER PRODUCTIVITY
  75.            Providing remote access to a user's office workstation enhances the
  76.            productivity of a worker who is working remotely.  The user may
  77.            access his/her job-site network and thereby have access to any of the
  78.            program provided on that network.
  79.            FENCING -- DATA ACCESS SECURITY
  80.            LANHOP/6000 provides the ability to establish group authorization
  81.            files that will restrict a user's access to connections (host names).
  82.            Each user will be authorized to a particular group which in turn will
  83.            list the connections (host names) available to that group.
  84.            NETWORK MANAGEMENT -- SNMP AGENT
  85.            LANHOP/6000 provides management of your gateway network via Simple
  86.            Network Management Protocol (SNMP).  This capability allows
  87.            collection and access of statistics on the status of the network
  88.            interfaces, incoming and outgoing traffic, port utilization, CPU
  89.            utilization, and error message generation.
  90.            TRANSACTION ACCOUNTING
  91.            LANHOP/6000 provides full collection and mirroring of accounting
  92.            functions per user session.  The following data is provided:
  93.            o   Start time
  94.            o   Stop time
  95.            o   Modem speed
  96.            o   Gateway name
  97.            o   Dialing platform (DOS, OS/2, DOS Windows)
  98.            o   Port number
  99.            o   Userid.
  100.                   An application programming interface (API) will be provided to
  101.            access this information.
  102. TECHINFO   TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  103.            SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
  104.            MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:  Server machine requirements consist of the
  105.            following:
  106.            o   RISC System/6000
  107.            o   IBM Token Ring 16/4 or Ethernet LAN.
  108.            o   Minimum of one 64-port ASYNC controller
  109.            o   Minimum of one ASYNC concentrator
  110.            o   Minimum of sixteen RJ-45 to DB-25 convert cables
  111.            o   Port usage of 64 and under requires 5MB DASD and 16MB RAM
  112.            o   Port usage of 65 and greater requires 6MB DASD and 32MB RAM
  113.            NOTE: Each ASYNC controller can support up to four ASYNC
  114.            concentrators for a maximum of 64 modems.  With an additional three
  115.            ASYNC controllers and associated ASYNC concentrators, more modems can
  116.            be utilized providing resources permit.

  144.                   The security and auditability features of the announced
  145.            program include the following:

  147.                authorization files which restrict user access
  148.            o   Password encryption
  149.            o   Double password protection.
  150.                   User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
  151.            implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
  152.            appropriate controls in application systems and communication
  153.            facilities.

  157.                   Unless a later date is specified, orders entered prior to the
  158.            planned availability date will be assigned a schedule date of

  236.            distributed to the user of record for as long as a license for this
  237.            software remains in effect.  A separate publication order or
  238.            subscription is not needed.

  240.            LICENSING:  The program in this announcement is licensed under the
  241.            terms of the IBM Customer Agreement.

  243.            INSTALLATION LICENSE OR LOCATION LICENSE APPLIES:  No.  A separate
  244.            license is required for each machine on which the licensed program
  245.            materials will be used.

  247.            maximum number of remote port accesses ordered without obtaining the
  248.            appropriate features to the license for the designated machine, up to
  249.            the maximum permitted usage.

  276.            replacement program for a one-time charge and replace the prior
