SUPPORTED PRODUCTS: Refer to the 9545 Sales Manual pages, or contact
your IBM representative, for a complete list of supported features
and options, and compatible IBM and vendor software. The Sales
Manual is updated periodically.
LIMITATIONS:
o The IBM ThinkPad 750, 750Cs, 750C and 750P systems have one
memory-slot per system for 2MB, 4MB, 8MB or 16MB IC DRAM optional
feature cards expandable up to 20MB.
o Modem support for the IBM ThinkPad 750, 750Cs, 750C and 750P
systems and the IBM ThinkPad Port Replicator Model I is provided
through the RS-232 serial port (rear) or a PCMCIA PC optional
feature card using the PCMCIA slot that can accommodate two Type
I or Type II or one Type III. The IBM ThinkPad 750, 750Cs, 750C
and 750P systems and the IBM ThinkPad Port Replicator Model I
conform to the PCMCIA PC Card Standard Release 2.01 and the
PCMCIA Card and Socket Services Specification Release 2.0, dated
November 1992.
o The ThinkPad systems have been designed so that the customer can
install or remove the PCMCIA card without turning off the system
if the PCMCIA card supports this function. Refer to the
instructions that come with the PCMCIA card.
o When installing two Type II PCMCIA communications cards in the
PCMCIA slot there may be some cable interference.
o PC Card point enablers may write directly to the hardware,
bypassing Socket and Card Services Release 2.0. Writing directly
to the hardware may cause problems that can not be anticipated.
Also point enablers may interfere with Client Device Drivers that
do communicate with Socket and Card Services Release 2.0.
Additional customer testing in their specific environments is
recommended.
o The video capture adapter, which requires VGA pass-through (video
pass-through, VESA bus), is not supported by the ThinkPad 750,
750Cs, 750C and 750P and the IBM ThinkPad Dock I.
o The IBM ThinkPad 750, 750C and 750P Audio Features Diskette
Version 1.0 included with the system does not contain an IBM OS/2
audio device driver that allows you to use OS/2 audio functions.
An upgrade is available at no charge, beginning November 1, 1993.
Upgrade requests must be made by January 31, 1994. In the U.S.,
call IBM at 800-845-4263. In Canada, call IBM HelpPC at
800-565-3344. Ask for your copy of the ThinkPad 750 Audio
Features Upgrade.
o When the ThinkPad systems are working under the Windows
environment, removal and installation of a PCMCIA card is not
supported during the power-on state.
o OS/2 Communications Manager Version 1.0 does not support the IBM
PCMCIA 3270 Emulator (0933315).
o The IBM Car Battery Adapter only supports a +12V car battery
socket. Any other voltage may damage the IBM Car Battery Adapter
or the ThinkPad system.
o When the IBM Car Battery Adapter is used, the battery is charged
while the system unit is turned off.
o The car battery adapter may not function on some European cars.
o The TV Tuner Pack and Analog-to-Digital Video Converter Adapter
optional features are supported on the ThinkPad 750C only.
o When the audio device driver is disabled, periodic noise will be
heard with some applications (such as IBM Story Board Live). To
avoid the noise, it is recommended to enable the audio feature
(audio feature is enabled by the default setting):
- Enable the audio device by PS2.EXE (DOS) or ThinkPad feature
(Windows 3.1, OS/2)
- Install the audio feature by following the instructions
"Installing the Audio Device Driver" in the USER'S GUIDE.
o The IBM 8516 "touch screen" color display requires the TrackPoint
(TM) II to be disabled before connecting it to the external
display connector. To disable the TrackPoint II, follow the
instructions provided in the IBM THINKPAD 750, 750CS, 750C AND
750P USER'S GUIDE.
o High performance BIOS uses 128KB of system memory.
o The IBM Keyboard/Mouse Connector accessory is required when
attaching an external keyboard to the system via the external
input device port.
o High Speed PCMCIA Data/Fax Modem V.32bis data compression is
limited by applications that use the BIOS controlling the serial
port. Data compression for applications that do not bypass the
BIOS is limited to 19.2Kbps. Many applications bypass the BIOS,
hence, they allow data compression approaching the theoretical
limit of 57.6Kbps or four times the data compression.
o The PRODIGY service will not run without an appropriate modem. A
modem is not included with the IBM ThinkPad 750, 750Cs, 750C and
750P systems. A customer who acquires the IBM ThinkPad 750,
750Cs, 750C or 750P system and a modem may contact PRODIGY to
obtain a one-month free membership.
o The IBM ThinkPad 750, 750Cs, 750C and 750P NiMH Battery Pack has
a limited warranty period of one year.
o The IBM ThinkPad 750 CDPD Mobile Communications Module is not
supported on the ThinkPad 750P.
o The IBM ThinkPad Dock I built-in SCSI controller supports up to
five SCSI devices (internal and external).
o The IBM ThinkPad Dock I built-in SCSI controller specification
for the SCSI cable length connected to each SCSI interface is
three meters (approximately 10 ft) maximum. This three-meter
length includes both internal SCSI cables (insides the Dock I or
external SCSI device) and the external SCSI cables (outside the
Dock I or external SCSI device). The Dock I internal SCSI cable
length is 0.2 meters (0.7 ft).
o If an IBM ThinkPad 750, 750Cs, 750C and 750P system with the IBM
ThinkPad Dock I attached is used, then for the comfort and
convenience of the user the height of the system should be
adjusted or an external keyboard should be used.
o The HDD password (HDP) is not supported when it is installed in
the IBM ThinkPad Dock I. Remove the hard disk password while it
is installed (or re-installed) in the computer, then use with the
Dock I. The hard disk drive is secured by the Dock I security
lock and tie-down capability.
o Password prompt is not displayed when the computer resumes from
"partial" Suspend mode while it is attached to the IBM ThinkPad
Dock I.
o PCMCIA adapter (PC card) diagnostics program usually does not
support a slot number greater than two. Re-install the PCMCIA
adapter into the computer PCMCIA slot (slot number one or two) to
diagnose suspected failing PCMCIA adapter installed in the
ThinkPad Port Replicator Model I (slot number three or four).
o "Point Enabler" (one of device driver of PCMCIA adapter) does not
support a slot number greater than two. A PCMCIA adapter (PC
card) installed in the slot of the IBM ThinkPad Port Replicator
Model I PCMCIA slot (slot number three or four) cannot be used
with point enabler.
o When 1.0GB Fast SCSI-2 Hard Disk Drive (#7127, 32G4198) is
installed in IBM ThinkPad Dock I internal drive location, it may
be necessary to limit the utilization of IBM ThinkPad Dock I
expansion slot to avoid the possibility of overloading the 12
Volt power supplies. The following cards cannot be installed to
expansion slot of Dock I when this hard disk drive (32G4198) is
used:
- IBM PC Network Adapter II
- IBM PC Network Baseband Adapter
- IBM LAN Adapter for Ethernet

get the APAR fixes PJ09770 and PJ09807.
SUSPEND MODE OPERATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: The computer can enter
Suspend mode when the PC card uses one of the following operating
systems.
NOTE: Do not remove or install PC cards during Suspend mode when
running:
o DOS 5.02, or later
o Microsoft Windows 3.1 with DOS 5.02, or later.
NOTE: When using Windows 3.1, ensure that the Advanced Power
Management (APM) is installed by following the instructions
"Installing Microsoft Windows Version 3.1, or later," in the USER'S
GUIDE. Without this step, power management will not work correctly
and can cause errors such as mouse problems after Suspend/Resume.
o When the computer communicates with other systems via any
communication PC card, the following precautions must be
remembered before using the Suspend function:
- When the computer is powered by the battery pack, the
computer automatically turns power off to the PC card before
entering Suspend mode so that the duration of Suspend mode
will last longer. Therefore, the computer will not restore
the communications application when it returns to normal
operation from Suspend mode, except when the following PC
cards are used:
-- IBM PCMCIA Data/Fax Modem
-- IBM High Speed PCMCIA Data/Fax Modem.
To reestablish communication after Suspend mode, restart
the system or the application program.
Setting the automatic power saving timer (SYSTEM SUSPEND) in
the Set Advanced Features Menu is valid on entering Suspend mode when
any PC card is in use.
Non-disruptive battery exchange allows the user to put the
system in Suspend mode and exchange battery packs without any loss of
data or function.
PLANNING INFORMATION
CABLE ORDERS: All cables are included with the system.
INSTALLABILITY: The IBM ThinkPad 750, 750Cs, 750C and 750P systems
require about 20 minutes for installation. Installation includes
unpacking, setting up and powering on the system. Additional time is
required to install other memory, an operating system and other
features.
PROBLEM DETERMINATION: If a failure is found at initial
installation, an instruction or error code will appear on the screen.
The user should note this information and refer to the USER'S GUIDE
shipped with the system unit.
System units that fail at installation or during a power-up
sequence will automatically go to the system diagnostics to isolate
the failing field replaceable unit (FRU) or refer the user to the
service representative for the IBM ThinkPad 750, 750Cs, 750C and
750P.
The troubleshooting procedures consist of a power-on
self-test, diagnostic tests and easy-to-follow troubleshooting charts
designed to assist the user in isolating a defective machine element.
The failing element can then be replaced or repaired under existing
warranty provisions.

SECURITY, AUDITABILITY AND CONTROL
STANDARD SECURITY FEATURES:
o Passwords
- A power-on password (POP) protects the system from
unauthorized use. If a POP is set, the password prompt
appears:
-- Each time the system is turned on
-- When the system is returned to normal operation from
Suspend mode.
- A Supervisor Password provides a higher level of security
than the POP. The Supervisor Password protects the system
functions from being used by unauthorized users and protects
the hardware configuration from unauthorized modification.
The Supervisor Password prompt appears when the hardware
configuration is changed.
- The HDD Password (HDP) is a new feature of the IBM ThinkPad
750, 750Cs, 750C and 750P systems. It is used to protect HDD
data. Once HDP is set, data on the HDD cannot be accessed
without the correct HDP. Because the HDP is stored in the
HDD, the data remains protected even if the HDD is removed to
another system. The HDP password prompt appears:
-- Each time the system is turned on
-- When the system is returned to normal operation from
Suspend mode.
o The user can use the hook on the hard disk locking mechanism to
leash with a user selected padlock and chain or cable.
o Vital Product Data (VPD) enabled. VPD is a software system
identification.
SECURITY OPTIONAL FEATURES
o Security Base
The Security Base acts as a cradle for the system serving
as physical security that:
- Bolts the system to the desk
- Keylocks the system with the hard disk
- Acts as a locking mechanism (padlock is user's choice)
- Keylocks the Port Replicator Models I and II in the security
base with PCMCIA cards (Model I)
- Prevents removal of hard disk
- Prevents access to the screw holes in the system
- Prevents access to the system expansion and I/O connectors.
User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures and
appropriate controls in application systems and communications
facilities.
