It can, IIRC, play Descent 2 just fine in a VDM, but untill Odin32 is
*much* more advanced will you be able to play Descent3...
Good luck!

From: bskzgk@hotmail.com
Hey,
Take a sec to look at this site - http://www.KnowToday.com
This site has a novel concept of putting Internet users together in an
information exchange. This will never replace newsgroups, but it does offer a
new way for all of us with knowledge to share an opportunity to earn money for
it ! From what I can tell it's the newest form of auction - knowledge auction.
They have a pre-registration site up at the moment and are offering an
incentive plan where you get paid for successful referrals (so use my number
if this is of interest to you AAA969). Membership is totally free right now
and those of us that hop on the bandwagon early can benefit by being the first
people on.
You can go on their site and ask detailed questions or make money by answering
questions. They are designing the site with many different categories, so
almost anyone will be able to ask and answer questions.
It only takes a minute to join, so check it out at http://www.knowtoday.com/,
they explain everything on the web site. It's totally free !

Do you mean Microprose's "Railroad Tycoon Deluxe" which was released in
the mid-1990s. It is a DOS program that runs very well under OS/2.

Subj: Joystick Device Driver Contest Update #2
From: stefanj@gte.net (Jason Stefanovich)
We have received a new donation pledge of $10 from Zoltan Bokeny for
the MAMERun Joystick Device Driver Contest.
What is it?
Write your own joystick device driver for OS/2 and you could win a
Gravis Gamepad Pro + $30 and earn the respect and gratitude of OS/2
gamers around the world! With the many new games available and the
advance of game controllers there arises a need for a better
joystick device driver than IBM's advanced joystick device driver.
Support for new controller features, such as 8+ buttons, will greatly
enhance the OS/2 gaming experience for gamers as well as
developers.
For rules and other information check out:

I am looking for additional sponsors for this contest. If you would
like to contribute please go to:

Subj: Red Allert native on OS/2 => Odin!!
From: "Adrian Gschwend" <nospam_ktk@netlabs.org>
Hey all,
I just want to let you know that Alpha 5 of Odin is available, you can get it
at ftp://ftp.os2.org/odin/
The homepage is still located at http://www.netlabs.org/odin/
With Odin you can run Win32 applications on OS/2, at least some of it :-) The
team made great progress, actually some of the running applications are Red
Allert (game), WinAmp (MP3 Player), Acrobat distiller and maybe also more

Just one addon as being responseible for DDRAW part of ODIN.
- I teseted RA only on OS/2 running in 16 and 8 bit mode.
- It will always run in the top left corner.
- you must install the xf86sub.sys as RA wants to access some VGA registers
directly and therefor needs to run with an IOPL=3.
- Sorry no sound (yett).
- The game might crash if you move the mouse while a Dialog is being drawn.
But of course you can scroll in the game and move the mose while doing
this.

Subj: MAME for OS/2 .36 beta 9.1 is available
From: Marty <mamodeo@stny.rr.com>
MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator.
It allows you to play up to 1858 classic, and some not-so-classic arcade games
(from the 70's through the 90's) from the comfort of your OS/2 desktop.
The OS/2 version has been updated to the latest version of the MAME core (.36
beta 9.1). If you are upgrading from beta 6 or higher, it will automatically
update your Quick List and scan for newly supported games the first time you
start it up so you don't have to manually rescan everything from scratch and
erase your Favorites list.
Please know that I am still working on speedups, although this release mainly
updates the MAME core. I should have a new version of GPMixer (the audio
library used by MAME for OS/2) available soon which should improve the speed
of
games with sound considerably.
As always, you can download the latest release from
http://emuos2.vintagegaming.com.
Enjoy!
- Marty

Subj: Re: Red Alert native on OS/2 => Odin!!
From: Robert Basler <bogus@bogusdomain.com>
This is great! Thought I'd pass on a couple things I found playing with it.
First of all, that it works at all is amazing. This project has finally hit
the
useful point. I was also running Winhelp last night to view API docs. Handy.
FYI I'm running a Matrox G400 with the Matrox drivers on WSeB. Without
XF86sup.sys: In 32-bit color, you get a gray screen and nothing happens. In
8-bit mode, when the game closes it sets all palette entries to black, which
results in a black screen and a ctrl-alt-del. 16-bit mode doesn't have this
problem. When you put the mouse at the top of the window during gameplay, it
doesn't scroll up. Bandbox selections don't work. The mouse cursors tend to
disappear if you go into menus and never reappear. The mouse still works,
just
no pointer. If I install xf86sup.sys the program either trap D's or hangs the
whole system. It would be real nice if the program could appear in a window.
I'm running the 1.08 version of RA.
Which VGA registers is it interested in?
FYI If you can't wait for sound, you can play the dos version of Red Alert
with
a little fix at http://www.djtech.com/raos2.html-ssi
