Dotted names are still IP names, not NetBIOS names, as far as I know...
Which isn't to say that it can't work, but it won't if the raw IP
address doesn't either...

Wow, you learn something new every day. I guess the guys I was working
with had this set up already.

I don't know much about NSC, but I do know that you normally need
identical UserIDs and passwords on both domains.
Otherwise, you'll get an access error if you try connecting.

Subj: PPP over com1 to Newton fails for > 1276 bytes: Help
From: Mark Crocker <mcrocker@micron.com>
I tried posting this last night via deja.com, but it never appeared.
Please accept my appologies if this is a duplicate...
When I connect my Newton to my OS/2 machine using PPP, I am able to
download small web pages, but not larger ones! Has anybody got any
suggestions for how to solve this problem?
I use the following commands on my PC running OS/2 Warp 3 (lines
wrapped for newsgroup posting):
mode com1:115200,N,8,1,to=off,idsr=off,xon=off,octs=on,rts=on,
odsr=off,dtr=hs,buffer=on
ppp com1 115200 -vj 137.201.101.107:137.201.101.105 netmask
255.255.240.0 mru 1500 silent debug
Setting the corresponding parameters on my Apple Newton Message Pad
2100 and connecting to a serial cable allows me to access web pages
that reside on my PC's local Apache 1.3.9 server (using the full IP
address), but ONLY if they are less than 1276 bytes and I use "manual"
mode on the Newton. I have no problem loading arbitrarily large web
pages when logged onto compuserve via a modem in the Newton using
"server" mode, so I don't think the problem is on the Newton side.
I also have problems connecting to the DNS or any other nodes on my
LAN, but before I spend any time messing with the proxyarp, ipgate=on
and other stuff like that, I'd like to get just plain a direct
connection to my PC's server to load files greater than 1276 bytes.
Do I need to get the DNS, proxy, routing and all of that stuff working
first or can I concentrate on the local connection alone?
I have tried messing with rtcts, proxyarp, defaultroute, netmask, and
debug, but haven't managed to improve anything. Are there other
options that I should be trying out?
I can provide debug information if you think it will be helpful
Thanks;

τ You may try the penguin ftp daemon. It lookes like a *nix server to

τ customized login and directory messages.
Penguin ftpd doesn't work with TCP/IP 4.1, at least if you're also running
GoServe as your Web server. The first ftp session that ends does something to
close down GoServe -- it gives an obscure error about not having any sockets.
Other wise it was pretty nice and easy to configure.

The manual calls it Network Sign-on Coordinator/2,
I think. I'll study up on it and see whether it can help
me. I hadn't picked up any hint that it might help with
simultaneous multiple-domain usage, but I'll see what I
can learn.

For obscure reasons, TNLS16 is in a different directory to TNLS32
(it's in \TCPIP\DLL rather than \MPTN\DLL). If you can't find it, let

Currently using Injoy firewall/NAT on a WSeB system.
Go ahead and configure the built-in firewall, I want to watch.
Besides, I don't think it supports NAT or vpn.
The injoy product is worth every penny.

Subj: Injoy seems to block transmission of a particular file
From: Tim Stephen@CIOS.ORG (Tim Stephen)
Injoy (v 1.1), used as a dialer on one of my home systems, has
apparently decided not to allow my home machine to ever download
particular graphics files from my remote web server (www.cios.org).
Inexplicably, I can't ftp GET or view with my browser any of several
particular .gif files that (1) have been on the server for a couple of
years without modification and (2) are viewable and ftp'able from any
non-Injoy machine I can put my hands on. I can FTP PUT a new copy of
the .gif file in question but still can't view it or GET it again once
it is on the machine. The .gif file is 15965 bytes. If I connect with
IBM dialer, no problems. This has only begun to happen recently (as far
as I know) and I haven't made any changes to my OS configuration or to
Injoy in a couple months that I'm aware of. Injoy shows MANY "invalid
FCS" messages when I try to access one of the particular files in
question but not otherwise.
Any thoughts???

It supports both NAT and VPN, but there are a few
problems with the NAT support in that it requires
a "pool" of real IP addresses to use for the translation
and the "internal" to "real" mapping appears to be
a 1 to 1 mapping. (At least that's what I understood from
the documentation).
The other problem is the documentation.

Did you try the Compaq web site? That is probably the best place
to look for it. Assuming you are talking about a firmware
update.
If it is a "WinModem" and you need a driver update there
is a Lucent chipset OS/2 modem driver available on
the IBM Device Driver Repository.

You can set up the LAN using TCPBEUI (NETBIOS over TCP/IP)
and peer to peer.
Or, you can use the Lan Distance product that is included with
Warp 4.

The InJoy I'm running says version 2.20, and I haven't seen any invalid

You might try upgrading.

From: Alan Beagley <abeagley@datatone.com>
Well, I am about to get a cable modem connection to the Internet, with only
*one* dynamically assigned IP address, so the firewall features incorporated
into TCP/IP 4.1 and higher are not going to do what I need. So it looks as
though I do need to use third-party software.
Sergey or anybody else: What are the pros and cons of the InJoy Firewall
compared to the SafeFire Firewall. The cost is the same for my needs (for
5-user Pro version of Injoy Firewall or unlimited-user Gold version of
SafeFire Firewall). From my reading of the docs., the two products seem to do
the same thing -- or claim to.

Subj: Can't install TCP/IP 4.1
From: nineveh@wwa.com
I am trying to install TCP/IP 4.1. When I begin it tells me that I must
install the
latest version of MPTS (which it requires), and if I would like to do that
automatically. I say 'yes', and it then says:
You have re-installed MPTS. Locked files will not allow you to
start MPTS.
You must exit MPTS, shutdown, and restart your workstation
before you can start MPTS.
I am not aware that I have any locked files. I removed all TCP/IP and MPTS
programs from my Startup folder, to make sure nothing is running in the
backgorund, but I get the same error.
Which locked files is it referring to? Any ideas?

Get a grip. You never even mentioned why you felt you needed a new
driver.
Bran (rather laconically) gave you all the info there is on modem
drivers. Either the native COM driver can talk to it and no other driver
is needed, or it's a WinModem and the Lucent driver *might* work.
We have also been assuming that you are using os/2, not windows.

Did you do an MPTS update w/o restarting?
This happens: The locked file program sometimes does not finish or
just does not clean up after itself.
Go to the \os2\install directory and delete IBMLANLK.LST. You might
have to delete LOG*.* as well.

It's referring to a list of locked files that can be found
in \os2\install in a file named something like
ibmlanlk.lst (I don't quite remember the name but
it has a .LST extension).
If you delete that .LST file the MPTS installation can
proceed without any problems.
You should also make sure that the IFS=C:\OS2\HPFS.IFS
statement is the first one in your config.sys file as this can
also contribute to the problem.

Subj: DB2/2.1 Connectivity problems between OS/2 and NT
From: "Jette Hannibal" <fam.hannibal@get2net.dk>
OS/2 warp connect 3.0 (Revision 8.264) via TCP/IP or NetBios.
I think that the problem resides in the layer between the operating system
and the database management system. But for now I am stopped cold without a
clue on where to go.
I'm positive that the TCP/IP configurations are correct on both client and
databaseserver. I have inserted port configurations in services files as
well as host names in the hosts files on both server and client. The OS/2
workstation (with the DB2 database) has a fixed IP adress which is
conneceted to the NNAME in the hosts file on both databaseserver and client.
The database is cataloged as remote.
I have tried the connection with NetBios as well. But the problem seems to
be the same. The client or client enabeler can not resolve the name and IP
adress to get a connection to the database whatever it is done from the
databaseserver (OS/2 workstation) or the client (NT 4.0. workstation)
I'm open to all suggestions
You are welcome to email me on fam.hannibal@get2net.dk
Sincerely
Kim

Post the OS/2 version and the syslevel of both the base OS and MPTS

Lorne,
As instructed, I have edited the MPTN\bin\setup.cmd and the DNS in
resov2 was already set to my isp's address of 207.229.143.1. The
routing pages in the tcpip config notebook are a bit confusing to me:
I have the first page" configure network parameters" set to manual and
the address is my mmachine names ip address of 192.168.1.1.with the
interface manually as lan interface0. The routing pagelist net as roue
type, 207.229.143.1 as detination, 192.168.1.9 as router, 1 as metric
and 225.225.225.0 as subnet mask.
Configure lan name list my machine's hostname, my local domain name
correctly and list my isp as nameserver addresses. Connfigure name

That routing does not sound correct.
The only route entry S/B type default, destination 192.168.1.9
(if that is your modem's IP address).
Any other routing list entries should be deleted.
If you can you can send me your \mptn\bin\setup.cmd

Mptn\bin\setup.cmd reads as follows:"route add default 192.168.1.9",

Looking at the whole post again,
You seem to have the same address for the ISP's DNS
as the ISP's router?
From what you've said
setup.cmd should look like
route -fh
arp -f
ifconfig lan0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 metric 1 mtu 1500
route add default 192.168.1.9 -hopcount 1
ipgate off
resolv2 should contain
domain enteract.com
nameserver 297.229.143.1
With these settings, you should be able to
ping any of the other machines on your LAN
given they have an address of 192.168.1.x
this will include the "modem"
If you have another machine on your LAN
can you connect to some web site using that
machine and then use the "host" command
from the Warp machine to obtain an IP address
for any other site on the web. This will check
to see if the Warp machine can actually communicate
through the "modem" when am internet connection
is caused by the other machine.
Like "host www.ibm.com" the command
should return the IP address of IBM's web site.

The dbm cfg parameter, IIRC, that is relevant is the SVCENAME, not
NNAME. That alone may cause the problem.

I assume that, from the machine that will be the DB2 client, you can
"ping" the server. That is,
ping db2.server.com
doesn't complain. If you're using NetBIOS, however, the command to try
is more along the lines of "net view \\db2server". As long as this
command doesn't tell you it can't find the other system, you should be
okay.

Well.. you said you were open...
I tried DB2 and never got passed some really stupid setup problems. This was
on Wseb...
My solution? I dropped it like a rock and went with mSQL and then eventually
moved it all to mySQL. Setup is a breeze, security good and... run's great.

Subj: Linkup stopped working
From: "Lionel C. Abrahams" <abrahams@sparc.isl.net>
I had my Netscape, PMMail... started with Linkup which bring up
DOIP object if the connection is not established. I removed 1
system from my internal lan, and decided to remove the lan
connection from that system as no longer needed.
After I did that, when I click on Netscape, it fails with an error
saying that LINKUP.EXE could not be started. Using the utility
Chkdll, it says that Linkup does not load because it can not find
"tcpi32.dll". That file should reside in x:\mptn\dll and it is not
there (but it is there in my systems still on the lan).
I re-installed MTPN and configured it with no adapter present. I
reconfigured tcpip 4.1...but still no tcpi32.dll. I tried copying
it from my other system, but this resulted in a frozen system as
those 2 systems are not at the same MPTN level.
How do I get the proper file installed?

For whatever reason, the port isn't being released upon exit. So, upon a
restart, they find that their attempts to bind to the port number fail,
with an "already in use" error.
If you do a netstat -s, you might still see the socket which is in a
LISTEN state on the port in question. You might try running a socket
closer on it, which you can get at Hobbes somewhere (search for soclose).

One other thing... Don't start your programs with LINKUP.EXE, which is
only smart enough to determine whether there's an active SLx or PPPx
interface. Start them directly.

OK, that makes it more clear.
On the OS/2 machine, what you need to do is configure the modem's address
as the default router.
Using the TCP/IP config notebook, go to the routing page, and click Add.
In the type box, press D for default. That will grey out all but the
address and metric boxes. In the address box, put the modem's IP address.
Since it's plugged right into the hub, there's only one hop between it
and the machine you're using, so the metric is 1.
After that, save the changes, and execute \MPTN\BIN\SETUP.CMD.
Now, any packets which don't have a network of 192.168.1 will be sent to
your modem router.
With a properly designed modem router, this would be enough for it to dial
out if not already connected, before routing the packets. I can't imagine
what it would need beyond that to function.
If it doesn't dial out automatically upon having traffic to send, then
you'll need to do an IP trace on a Win98 machine to see just what's being
sent to it, aside from the actual traffic it's expected to route.

Mike,
The Modem is a netgear modem router. It has 56k speed and a network card
built in to it....this unit sits along-side my hub and printserver, and
is pluggged into the hub via it's network card.
This modem comes with software for Win98 allowing the Win98 apps to
cause the modem to dial when any internet app is launched...the modem
as a network device allows any machine or machines on the network to
access the internet. The modem becomes a resource just as any other
resouce on the network with an ip address such as printservers, CDROM
server devices...ect.
The problem is that all the Win98 machines see this modem and can access
it with no problem...It's the OS/2 machines that I can't get to
work....I think I have to point the OS/2 machines to the modem's ip
address which is 192.168.1.9, but I can't figure out how to do this.
The OS/2 machines can ping the modem ok so I know it's working, and the
OS/2 machines can also see the other printservers, CDROM server and
Win98 machines....but launching an internet app like Postroad Mailer or
Netscape will only cause the Slippm dialer to launch....Do you
understand the problem?

Subj: OS/2 <-> SAMBA problem solved
From: usenetmail3@turbolink.net (Mike)
This is not actually a problem with OS/2, but it is a problem with OS/2
machines
connecting to Samba servers.
After upgrading to the latest Samba version (2.0.6) on my Linux machine to see
if they fixed the FindFirst/FindNext bug with a connecting OS/2 machine, I
found that it was still present. So, I decided to look through the code to
see
if I could find where the problem is, and I did in a relatively short amount
of
time. First, let me describe the problem. When doing a DIR /S X* on a Samba
mounted drive, it returns immediately with "File not found" without even
searching sub-directories. Whe logging the drive with a program like ZTree
Bold, it would fail with multiple "Critical Error [2]" dialog boxes.
I tracked this down to the following section of code in trans2.c:
/*
* If there are no matching entries we must return ERRDOS/ERRbadfile -
* from observation of NT.
*/
if(numentries == 0)
{
dptr_close(&dptr_num);
return(ERROR(ERRDOS,ERRbadfile));
}
Simply changing the return value from ERRbadfile to the correct response
(ERRnofiles) solves this problem.
I don't know how wide-spread the problem was (it didn't seem to affect samba
shares mounted through TVFS).
If you have any questions, email me.

This looks adequate - fixpak 35 - but we've had much better stability
after applying fp40 to the base OS. Don't think this is the problem.

This looks like the culprit. You will need to apply a fixpak to this.
The current level is WR08620. I seem to recall that there was an IP
timeout problem with this base level stack release.

I don't think this is the root problem either, but we had to update
our servers to get around some DB2 problems and memory leaks.

All the WR08600 level LAN products will be updated by the LAN fp. To
get the fixpaks - and to find all the version info you never wanted to
know - go to http://service5.boulder.ibm.com/pspfixpk.nsf/
Bore down to the specific products you have and get the available
fixpaks. One this page select the 'fix packages' link near the top
then you can search for the products you have. This actually appears
to be the Warp Server 4 product with the 32-bit TCP/IP stack upgrade
added. The base OS (Warp 3 - IBM confused everyone with the product
marketing name) has been serviced to an officially Y2K compliant level
but it's at least 5 (if it were really just Warp 3) and maybe 7
ficpaks behind the latest level. That's not really a problem if the
server portion were working OK. The LAN portion of the server has
been upgraded to TCP/IP ver 4.1 - another confusing numbers game - but
it has never had any services updates (fixpaks) applied. I would
start by applying the MPTS fixpack WR08620 to the protocol and IP
stack. As I said, I recall seeing that 20 minute dropout showing up
as a problem with the first drop of the 4.1 stack. As for the
lanstreamer cards, I'll have to look but I think ours are all running
16m just fine. As I recall, there is either a system boot setup
option or an option in the MPTS setup routine that allows you to force
16m. That's one of the EDIT buttons on the screen where you set up
the bindings. You can also edit the .NIF file for the card to force
it.
If anybody else sees where I'm wrong or has a better idea, I hope they
jump in. Parts of this server game is still a (black) art as opposed
to a science<g>.

I have tried 2 prg. without any luck.
When I try to close a running sock given from netstat -s
1 is saying "error: Socket operation on non-socket"
2 is saying "Killing socket xxx", not killed !
This was during normal operation of WEB server ( C'T magzine WEB search
engine
I was also watching netstat -s when I have the problem and it shows no
activity on that port ( ftpd )

I have already posted my config files which do work, did you not see them?
Have you followed Lorne Sunley's advice?
You say PING works, so what doesn't. Does ping work with names or only with
IP addresses?
Have you setup your ISP's DNS for the other machines on your LAN?

Hello Mike,
we have the same problem. We are testing at the moment samba servers
under Linux and AIX, and have experienced this problem.
If I do a 'DIR LA* /S' from a Win NT box all works fine, but if I do
this from OS/2 I got the error msg SYS0002 File not found.
We are direct connected to the samba server without TVFS. I think this
problem concerns all OS/2 clients and you should report this error to
teh samba team.

You are right about the product, Will. I believe this is Warp Server 4
Advanced on the box which is many different pieces in the box.
I grabbed the WR08620 fixpack and will give it a try this weekend. For
now PMPING is set to do an internal ping every 30 seconds and this is
keeping it alive. I will give an update on this after this weekend.
Thanks.

Subj: Maintenance for TCP/IP for OS/2 V310
From: "Harry Zisko" <harry_zisko@3com.com>
Hello,
I'm trying to figure out the fixpaks necessary to update my OS/2 Warp Server
Advanced V4. Unfortunately, the IBM web pages don't have clear information.
Here's what I understand so far:
- UN00959 is the first fixpak to install. It has a pre-req of WR08210, which
is superceded by WR08415, then WR08421, then (finally) WR08423 seems to be
the end of the supersede chain.
- WR08423 upgrades the stack to V4. After applying this fixpak, I need to
put on the latest V4 stack fixes (confusingly called STACK510).
Here are my questions:
1) Since WR08423 updates the stack to V4, do I need to bother with UN00959
at all? From reading the information in UN00959 it appears to be a V3 only
fix (nothing to do with V4).
2) WR08421 appears to have a post-req of IC17639. WR08423 which supercedes
WR08421 makes no mention of this fixpak as either a pre- or post-req. Do I
need to install it?
3) There are other fixes listed for the TCP/IP stack (i.e. DOSBOX, FTPFILES,
Y2K UPDATES). Do these fixpaks care whether or not they're installed on the
V3 or V4 stack? No information about this is included in their information.
FYI - I'm getting all my information from:
http://service5.boulder.ibm.com/pspfixpk.nsf/ and following the link to 'All
fix packages by product'. Once in there, I select OS/2 Warp Server: TCP/IP
for OS/2 V310.
Thanks for your assistance,
Harry Z.

Subj: TCP/IP Configuration Notebook EMPTY! in WSeB
From: Robert Basler <bogus@bogusdomain.com>
I'm running WSeB and I find that the TCP/IP configuration notebook
doesn't display any settings on any of its pages. It starts and shows
all the tabs, but no settings appear. This makes it a little difficult
to change things. It did work at one time. I have tried the SET LANTCP

1) Is there a way to fix this problem?

Then my only other suggested remedy (since the problem is apparently at
the stack level) is to look for any fixpacks of whatever TCP/IP level
you're using.
Both the 4.0 and 4.1 stacks have fixes beyond the base level.

Don't need too, you can just as easliy edit these two files in:
\mptn\etc
in socks.cfg
=============

direct 203.22.212.50 255.255.255.255

where you configure your direct routes (internal) and your socks

direct <ip_range> <subnet mask>
eg. 150.203.0.0 255.255.0.0 means all address in 150.203.x.x
150.22.212.50 255.255.255.255 means just 150.22.212.50
sockd @=your_socks_server 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 everywhere other than those

socks_password
socks_domain anu.edu.au
socks_ns 150.203.121.100
meaning:
socks_flag on <= enable
socks_user <= your username, you can leave it empty if not specified
socks_password <= your password like the above
socks_domain something.com <= your dowmain
socks_ns nameserver.something <= the DNS nameserver to be used
all your tcpip applications are now socksified :) except udp ports
since OS/2 socks DOESN'T support it. FTP will work fine.

I'm a novice but would have to ask the same questionn....My Netgear
product is finnaly workinng in my network of 2 Win98 and 2 OS/2
machines and I really like the setup. It's a much better use of
resources to have things like modems and printers centrally located
andd shared in the network rather than the redundancy of these resources
at each station, and maintenace and security are added benefits. What
have I missed in going this way?

I think you'll find that you need to specify '\.' as the default directory as
just '\' isn't a directory ie: D:\. should be valid while D:\ isn't.
Hope this helps,

From: "Roland Pinches" <Roland.Pinches@pmail.net>
I've had/still got this problem and have given up trying to fix it! I try not
to use the gui anymore but instead edit the files directly so....
If you can't get the gui working, try editing the files manually. Obviously
it helps if you know which files to change, but for basic configuration,
check the SETUP.CMD (probably in C:\MPTN\BIN but on older versions of TCP/IP
could be in the C:\TCPIP\BIN directory). This file starts all the daemons and
sets your IP address, default router etc.
If you use a HOSTS file, this should be placed in the ETC directory specified
by the ETC environment variable (try SET ETC at the command prompt).
There are other files depending upon what you want to do. Have a look around
in C:\MPTN or C:\TCPIP directories.
Hope this helps,
Roly.

Hello !
I have Warp 4 and TCP/IP 4.0 upgraded to an unknow version (inetver

The first one is that I need to pass -c parameter to lpd if I want it
not to print control file but this posibility is disabled with inetd. Is
there a way to impose this via a config file ?
BTW, is there a BSD port of LPD ?

I am using InJoy gateway/firewall software beacause I already had an old
486/33 machine sitting around. I bought an extra used network card for it,
and I am in business.
I can also shut it down and reboot it in Linux or whatever when nobody
else needs to access the Internet through it.

On the Autostart page of the TCPIP configuration Notebook there is
an entry field for optional parameters. Put the "-c" there. You do have
to start LPD as a detached or minimized foreground process.

From: Bjarne Jensen <bj@fx.dk>
Hej Kristian
Let me give you some of my motivation for creating
and using InJoy Products.
I've been used to using hardware boxes for years
prior to creating InJoy. What I don't like about
hardware boxes, is that they all implement their
own operating system. Usually an OS that
is slow to work with, hard to update, hard to learn,
hard to monitor and boring to look at. Sure, they
are good for certain tasks, such as being put
in a corner to take care of link that never changes.
However, for value-added connectivity, such as VPNs, firewall
logging and administration, filtering I will refuse
to ever go back to one of these hardware boxes.
The cheapest of the hardware boxes I've dealt with has been
less than reliable and worse to work with than
even the most unstable software, so when comparing
prices, you should probably consider this fact as
well.
For $200 you might get a piece of hardware with a
stamp on the side and a lot of promissed functionalities,
but you certainly don't get the bells and whistles
that InJoy provides you (some you need and some you
don't - but it's there when you need it). We support
most MS protocols too and the Stac (compression) is
more likely to slow down communications with todays
bandwidths.
Regarding the InJoy Dialer, I enjoy to take that with me and
I always have it handy when I travel, or when I have
to try a dialer from some other PC. If I need to
install a new system, then the software can be copied
over the network or be installed from a floppy in a
matter of seconds. If my leased line breaks down, then
I know I can trust the InJoy Dialer to dial out
2 seconds after.. With the modular building blocks in InJoy,
new functionality is easy to plug in, not to mention
the ease of installing product fixes.
In the InJoy Firewall, I appreciate the monitoring
of activity (makes it easier to find wierdness,
before it turns critical), the log files and
accounting which is just written to the disk without
any hazzles. Again, new stuff such as IPSec, PPPoE
is installed by means of a simple plugin and with
OS/2 utilities such as IPTRACE, it just makes the
perfect box for hosting and firewalling.
And don't forget, if you have a problem with InJoy,
then support is just an e-mail away.
I think, for me, this is all about being in control
of the box I dedicate as my point of communications
and I don't want to have to go to the dusty hardware
box in the corner when either the hacker hits, when
I need to finetune the connectivity options or
when the connection experiences wierd problems.
In my company we have a hardware box with built-
in firewall and router capability, but I really
prefer running the InJoy Firewall, cause whenever
I need to change something, it's a 2 second operation
and I can immediately see the results of my changes,
as much functionality and control as possible is
brought to the surface.
And InJoy will only get better!

I've had a similar problem on my P/390; I think it's an ARP problem on
some levels of MPTS which makes one of the interfaces invisible to the
others. I fixed it by forcing a permanant entry in the ARP table, as
follows:
arp -s 10.1.2.3 00:01:02:03:04
BTW, the P370-L discussion list is a better place to bring up P/390
problems; check the links in the P/390 section of my Web page.

Hello Einar,
I recently had the same problem. I discovered it as a problem with
querying the server type. I set it to the appropriate type and the
problem was gone.
This was e.g with ftp.hursley.ibm.com. Auto-Detect gave problems,
while setting it to AIX fixed it.

I had something like that, and even reinstallation didn't fix it, until I
installed the program on a different partition. I think you have to use
CHECKINI to clean the program's remnants from the INI files, which would
have done the same thing.

This has also been my experience. Autodetect gave some problems, but setting

Haven't seen anything from the author recently. Does anyone know if there is
a refresh in the works?

Something like

Does InJoy support the concept of NO modems and 2 NIC's ? or 2 NIC's
and 1 Modem as the backup wan.
Hint ! Having ethernet based isp access hardware such as most xDSL
types etc. makes nifty features in "dialer only" products kinda
useless
Given that the above ( not the 2 NIC's, the stuff you wrote) is
correct, i would expect to see something like:
Plugin/Filter list
- ICQ
Enables manual and/or automatic pat in order to enable direct
connects through InJoy's nat or - if pat is a std feature - doc's
describing how to implement the stuff.
- NetMeeting
Whatever... if anything... to use it behind InJoys nat
- w95tracert
Enables traceroute through InJoys nat
- <sometool>
<some solution>
is that corerct ?
is the plugin facility public spec'ed ? In other words, can anybody
write the plugins using public libraries and doc ?
regards
Kristian

I am trying this now, with limited siccess so far. I think he's left OS/2,
but I'm not sure. Anyway, FTPBrowser is the best available and it would be a
nice gesture if he handed the code if he's leaving the arena.

I have had a similar problem upgrading from Netscape 4.04 -> 4.61
I cannot see the bodies of my mail items. It seems to be connected with the
cert7.db
file.
My feeling is that this file is corrupted because no amount of deleting
and re-installing has cured the problem. In the meantime I have had to revert
to 4.04 and
will report the problem to IBM.
However if any one else has experienced similar problems and cured them then
let us in the secret.

That's correct. UN00959 CSD fixes the TCP/IP *services* 3.0/3.1 while MPTS
FixPak WR08423 fixes/upgrades the TCP/IP *stack*.

Not exactly. If you have a problem which is fixed with the IC17639 archive,
then a TCP/IP 4.0 stack is a pre-requisite. If it ain't broken, don't fix
it.

These fixes are not listed for the *stack*, but for the *services*. But
like you mentioned above there are few service fixes which require a
higher stack version. The details for the fixes are listed in the red
"Notes" column on my site.

You should better start getting that kind of information from my site. <g>
For your questions you can directly jump to:
http://www.warpupdates.de/english/tcp_upgrades.html
http://www.warpupdates.de/english/tcpip31.html
I recommend the safe way *including* the backups, so you can step back if
you encounter problems with higher stacks.

I am applying the latest fixpak to my TCP/IP 4.0 base install and there are
files in the fixpak that are not part of my origonal base install.
Specifically *.cat and * .map files, the fixpak readme file gives no
indication as to where these files should be copied to. My question is
where should they be copied to and what is the significance of these files,
are they just for debugging as I suspect or are they a requirement of this
fixpak.
Any clues will be gratefully recieved.
