For OS/2 copy protection software check out
http://www.bmtmicro.com/catalog/secureit.html
"Using the instructions and programs in the full SecureIt package, you
can implement a very high level of security against pirating in
your software. No protection scheme, whether it is implemented in
software or hardware, is 100% secure - but SecureIt is about as
close as you can get."

I've been attempting to email you for a few days now but my mail
is being rejected by your ISP's server (Complains about CR/LF protocol
violations.)
To answer your question, the problem is with
\emacs\20.3.1\lisp\site-start.el which I accidently included in the
distribution.
You can either remove this file or edit out the gnuserv stuff.

Subj: Power GUI Programming w/VAC++ and 3.65/4.0...problems?
To: teerexx@my-deja.com
From: Marco A. Morales <teerexx@my-deja.com>
Hi There,
I decided to break down and start some GUI programming on the OS/2
box, so I bought a copy of "Power Gui Programming with Visualage C++."
I am wondering if I can use the sample code with
VAC++ 4.0? What about the included VAC++ 3.6.5 compilers?
Currently, I have VAC++ 3.6.5 compilers (FP1), and some of
IOC examples fail. I am using the /Gm+ (I think it is that
one) parameter to compile IOC.
I noticed that my app was looking for a file a name very similar to
ibmcm30.dll. I only have a *36.dll version of that file.
I apologize for some of the ambiguity, but my OS/2 box is at home,
and I am sending this from work.
Thanks!
-Marco A. Morales

Basically the answer is yes you can use the examples. In some cases,
the IBM open classes have been modified (since publication of "Power
GUI") that requires researching why a particular line of code does not
compile. In most cases the research has proven to be enlightening.
Most of what you learn thru "Power GUI" is done automatically by the
Visual Builder IDE. However understanding the process has proven to be
invaluable.
