Multi-OS From Single Boot Menu
After following this procedure, you will be able to run Windows
NT, OS/2 and any Dos* on your computer system, with one single
boot menu program, OS/2 v2.x Boot Manager. I have tested this
out several times and have had no problems on any installs.
This procedure must be followed exactly, with no variations.
This procedure also requires that you have the minimal
requirements for NT as a system base, but with 2 hard drives.
First boot OS/2 v2.x, and then exit to prompt when avaible.
Run Fdisk, and create the following partitions on the first hard
drive.
Boot Manager at end of free space.
Primary Partition of 70 megs or more, beginning of free
space.
Primary Partition of 10 megs or more, beginning of free
space.**
Primary Partition of 50 megs or more, beginning of free
space.
( USE ALL HD SPACE, OTHERWISE IT IS WASTED)
Add all partitions to the boot manager menu, in the order
That they appear above, ( remember they must be in the above
order)
Set the First Partition (Windows NT) too installable.
Save and Exit, rebooting when told to, to a bootable dos
disk.
Format and Systemize the first partition with dos. Then reboot
and select the first partition to be booted. After it boots,
reboot but us the Windows NT diskette to load and install. (
DON'T FORMAT THE OTHER PARTITIONS WITH NT FORMAT OR REPARTITION
WITH NT). Now install NT (use the NTFS format to reformat the
drive) upon this partition, and ignore the warning about OS/2
Boot Manager. After NT is fully installed, logon and then run
the Disk Administrator program, and set the boot manager to
active Shut NT down, and reboot. OS/2 Boot Manager will
appear, select NT and let it boot. Shut down and boot Boot
Manager again then select DOS partition. You will get an error,
stating that the partition is not formatted, place dos disk in
drive A: and reboot using Crtl-Alt-Del. Run Fdisk and verify
that partition number two is the current one in which your are
installing to (it will state if it is a dos or non-dos
partition**). Exit and format and systemize the partition. When
done, reboot and select it from the boot Manager menu, and the
reboot again, but this time to OS/2 v2.x diskettes. Select
another drive when installing OS/2, and choose the third
partition. then install OS/2 on the drive, and then reboot to
test the Boot Manager. Then shut down. Boot NT , go into Disk
Administration and disable lettering of the other partitions,
Dos and OS/2. Reboot and now all three are installed upon one
drive.
* MS Dos versions 5, 6, IBM 5, 5.01, 6.1, DrDos 5,6.
** Please Note : If DOS will not boot, use OS/2's Fdisk to
delete the second partition, and the use DOS's Fdisk to create
it.
