Introduction:
The amount and variety of material you can access with CD-ROM is amazing,
particularly when you realize that a CD can hold over 600MB of data. This
unit accepts standard CD-ROM data discs, music CDs and photo CDs.
Installing the CD-ROM drive:
If your CD-ROM drive is already in your system, skip to the section,
"Operating the drive."
The CD-ROM drive fits into a half-height drive bay. If all the drive bays
in your system are occupied, remove a device to create space for the CD-ROM
drive. The drive cannot be used as an external device.
To install the CD-ROM drive:
1. Disconnect the power cable and remove the computer's cover.
JUMPER BLOCK
CS SL MA
---------------------------------------
█ █ █
█ █ █
---------------------------------------
Install a jumper at location SL if the CD-ROM shares a ribbon cable with
the hard drive.
2. If your system dose not require rails, discard them. If it does, install
them the way they are on the floppy drive.
3. If you are setting up the CD-ROM drive as a slave drive (when connecting
to the same cable as used by the IDE hard drive), install a jumper at
location SL.
If you are setting up the CD-ROM drive as a master drive (when connecting
to a different cable from the IDE hard drive cable), install a jumper at
location MA.
4. Slide the drive into an empty drive bay. Fasten the drive in place using
the holes on the sides of the drive.
5. Attach a power supply cable to the connector on the back of the drive.
The cable is keyed so it only goes on the correct way.
Note:If the system uses fail, fasten the tabs on the front, the way the
floppy drive is fastened.
6. If you have a sound card, connect the audio cable from the connector
labeled "LINE OUT" on the back of the CD-ROM drive to the internal audio
input connector on your sound card.
7. Connect the IDE ribbon cable to the connector labeled "I/O BUS" at the
back of the drive. Align the marked edge of the ribbon so it goes next to
the power connector.
8. Replace the system cover.
Configuring the System:
As far as your system is connected, the CD-ROM is a read-only hard drive.
Since it uses the IDE bus, no special controller card is necessary.
The easiest way to configure your system so it recognizes the CD-ROM is to
run the installation program on the floppy that comes with the CD-ROM drive.
Note:You can run the installation program before or after you install the
drive.
Installing the Device Driver under Windows 3.X or DOS 6.X
Note:No need to install this driver under Windows95
1) If your system automatically loads Windows exit Windows.
2) Insert the driver diskette in drive A:
3) At the C prompt (C:\>), type:
A:
and press ENTER.
4) At the A prompt (A:\>), type:
INSTALL
and press ENTER.
Instruction on the screen will tell you how to proceed as follows.
---------------------------------------------------
<Install Program>
---------------------------------------------------
Path to Install Driver C:\tsy
Device name tsycd1
Drive Connection Auto Recognition
Start Installation
[ ] Up [ ] Down [Enter] Select [Esc] Exit
---------------------------------------------------
5) Reboot your system after the installation.
If you prefer to install the CD-ROM software under Windows 3.X or DOS 6.X
manually, follow these setups:
1) Copy the contents of the floppy that came with the CD-ROM drive into the
TSY directory, or other directory of your choice.(The MSCDEX file is
supplied with MS-DOS 6.2)
2) Read this entire step, then put a line similar to the following in your
CONFIG. SYS file.
DEVICE=C:\TSY\TSYCDROM.SYS /D:TSYCD1/P:PS
TSYCDROM.SYS is the file name of the device driver software. Use the
exact file name.
TSYCD1 is the exact same device name or names used after the /D: in the
MSCDEX line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
The /P:PS switch indicates that the CD-ROM drive is connected to the
primary IDE cable as a slave.
If the CD-ROM is connected to the primary IDE cable as a master drive,
use the /P:PM switch.
If the CD-ROM is connected to the secondary IDE cable as a master drive,
use the /P:SM switch.
If the CD-ROM is connected to the secondary IDE cable as a slave drive,
use the /P:SS switch.
If you don't use the /P:XX, the device driver recognizes your CD-ROM
drive automatically.
3) Read this entire step, then put a line similar to the following in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:TSYCD1
/D:TSYCD1 is the device name for the CD-ROM drive.
It must be the same as the name in the CONFIG.SYS CD-ROM drive line.
Note:The DOS 6.X HELP command (type "help mscdex") information about
MSCDEX.
4) Reboot your system recognizes the CD-ROM.
Operating the drive
The CD tray:
To open the CD-ROM drive, press the Open/Close button near the lower right
corner of the drive. The motorized tray comes out without assistance.
Place a CD label side up into the circular depression in the tray.
The drive accepts music CDs (even "CD singles"), standard computer CDs,
and Kodak photo-CDs, including multi-session ones, but not Macintosh CDs.
To close the drive, press the Open/close button again or gently push the
drawer in. The motor starts and pulls in the drawer.
Sound:
The hole near the left edge of the drive is a mini stereo jack suitable for
headphones or powered speakers. You can also use it as a an AUX input to a
longer stereo system.
The drive is able to play audio CDs as well as the sound that may be on
software CDs.
The wheel to the left of the headphone jack is a volume control. We
recommend you turn it all the way left before you put on headphones, then
turn the volume up after you start the CD.
Emergency eject:
You may encounter a circumstance when it is not possible or convenient to
open the drive with the Open/Close button; for example, when the computer
is powered down. You can still open the drive. Insert a solid bar (like
paper clip) into emergency eject hole and push. Then tray will be come out
a little. After that, you can pull the tray to eject by hand.
