CD-ROM SUPPORTED WITH OS/2 SCSI Express TM
January 21, 1991 - Micro Design International of Winter Park, Florida,
U.S.A., today announced support for CD-ROM with their OS/2 SCSI Express
product. The support provides transparent access to High Sierra and ISO-9660
formatted CD-ROMs under OS/2 and in OS/2's DOS box. Data is accessed through
a combination device driver and Installable File System (IFS). When attached
to a LAN Manager server, data on a CD-ROM can be accessed from any workstation
on the network.
"This interface provides true on-the-server CD-ROM support under LAN
Manager," noted Robert Smith, Engineering Manager of Micro Design.
"Thousands of CD-ROM titles can now be made available to network users while
maintaining the security and control features of LAN Manager."
SCSI Express is a single software package solution that contains all
the necessary drivers and utilities to support hard disk, tape, DAT,
rewritable optical, WORM, and CD-ROM devices. A single SCSI adapter provides
access to any combination of these mass-storage and backup devices. Multiple
SCSI adapters can be used to increase the total workstation or server-storage
capabilities.
A wide variety of CD-ROM drives are supported, including both the
Micro Design LaserBank 600CD and LaserBank 600CDL. SCSI Express is available
in OEM quantities through Micro Design and with other Micro Design products
through the company's national and international distribution network.
