  1. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR TASKBAR v2.62
  2.  
  3. Installing from diskette
  4. ------------------------
  5.  1. Insert the program disk in a diskette 
  6.     drive.
  7.  2. From the desktop, open the icon view 
  8.     of the diskette drive.
  9.  3. Double-click on the 'INSTALL.EXE' 
  10.     object.
  11.  4. Push the 'Install' button.
  12.  5. Follow the prompts.
  13.  
  14. Installing from a downloaded ZIP archive
  15. ----------------------------------------
  16.  1. Unzip the contents of the archive into 
  17.     a *temporary* directory.
  18.     WARNING: IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM A
  19.     PREVIOUS VERSION OF TASKBAR, DO *NOT* 
  20.     UNZIP THE CONTENTS OF THIS ARCHIVE 
  21.     INTO YOUR EXISTING TASKBAR PROGRAM 
  22.     DIRECTORY!
  23.  2. Run the installation program by typing 
  24.     in an OS/2 command line session:
  25.       'd:\path\INSTALL'
  26.     where d:\path\ contains the path name 
  27.     of the temporary directory used in 
  28.     step 1.
  29.     You may also run the installation
  30.     program from your desktop by opening 
  31.     the folder for the temporary directory
  32.     created in step 1 and double-clicking
  33.     on the 'INSTALL.EXE' object.
  34.  3. Push the 'Install' button.
  35.  4. Follow the prompts.
  36.  5. After the installation has completed,
  37.     you may safely delete the contents of 
  38.     the temporary directory created in 
  39.     step 1 (but don't delete your
  40.     downloaded ZIP archive -- you'll need
  41.     it if you ever need to reinstall).
  42.  
  43. Both diskette and ZIP file installation
  44. ---------------------------------------
  45. When installation is complete, if 
  46. necessary, the taskbar program directory 
  47. will have been added to the LIBPATH and 
  48. HELP statements in your Config.Sys, the 
  49. Taskbar class will have been registered 
  50. with the Workplace Shell, and a folder 
  51. containing the various taskbar program and 
  52. documentation objects will have been 
  53. created on your desktop. In addition, 
  54. install places a shadow of the Taskbar 
  55. object in your startup folder. The 
  56. following files will have been placed in 
  57. your taskbar program directory:
  58.  
  59.   Taskbar.DLL
  60.   TskBarHk.DLL
  61.   Taskbar.HLP
  62.   Install.EXE
  63.   InstTool.DLL
  64.   TBInst.DLL
  65.   OrderFrm.VPT
  66.   READ.ME
  67.   RUNCHK.DAT
  68.   VPRPTDLL.DLL
  69.   Uninstal.CMD
  70.  
  71. After installation, the on-line help file 
  72. can be accessed by activating the popup 
  73. menu on the taskbar object and selecting 
  74. the 'Help' menu item. On-line help can also
  75. be accessed by double-clicking on the
  76. 'User Guide' object in the Taskbar folder.
  77.  
  78. The install procedure will create a log
  79. file named 'TASKBAR.LOG' in the root
  80. directory of your boot drive. If you
  81. encounter a problem during the install
  82. process, please enclose a copy of this
  83. log file with your problem report. You
  84. may safely delete this file once the
  85. install process has completed successfully.
  86.  
  87. OS/2 2.1 users
  88. --------------
  89. The installation program requires that OS/2
  90. REXX support be installed. If REXX support 
  91. is not installed, you will need to do an 
  92. OS/2 selective install and install REXX 
  93. support before installing Taskbar.
  94.  
  95. If you later upgrade from OS/2 2.1 to OS/2 
  96. Warp, you should reinstall the taskbar 
  97. program so that you can use the Warp 
  98. optimized version of the program.
  99.  
  100. Upgrading from previous versions
  101. --------------------------------
  102. If you are upgrading from a previous 
  103. version of Taskbar, do *NOT* try to keep 
  104. multiple versions of the program installed 
  105. at the same time.
  106.  
  107. Upgrading from v2.00 or lower
  108. -----------------------------
  109. If you are currently using version 2.00 or
  110. lower of Taskbar, before installing this
  111. upgrade:
  112.  
  113.  1. Delete the taskbar shadow object from
  114.     your startup folder.
  115.  2. Delete the taskbar program object from 
  116.     your desktop.
  117.  3. Delete all instances of the files
  118.     Taskbar.EXE and TskBarHk.DLL from
  119.     your hard drive.
  120.  
  121. Upgrading from v2.5x
  122. --------------------
  123. No special actions are necessary if you
  124. are installing over an existing copy of 
  125. version 2.50 or 2.51 of Taskbar. You will
  126. be required, however, to install this
  127. upgrade into the same directory in which 
  128. the current version is installed. Note 
  129. that the installation procedure will fix 
  130. your LIBPATH statement so that the entry 
  131. for the taskbar directory will come after 
  132. the entry for the '.' directory (this is
  133. needed to keep installs of future versions 
  134. from failing).

  136. If you wish to install the new version of 
  137. the program into a different directory than 
  138. the current version, you will need to 
  139. uninstall your existing copy of 2.5x before
  140. installing the new version. Version 2.5x
  141. can be uninstalled by doing the following:
  142.  
  143.  1. Start the INSTALL.EXE program included
  144.     with your copy of version 2.62.
  145.  2. Push the 'Uninstall' button.
  146.  3. Follow the prompts.
  147.  
  148. Upgrading from 2.60 and above
  149. -----------------------------
  150. If you are currently using version 2.60 or
  151. higher of Taskbar, you must install this 
  152. upgrade into the same directory in which 
  153. the current version is installed. If you
  154. want to change directories, you must
  155. uninstall the old version before
  156. installing the new version.
  157.  
  158. Uninstalling
  159. ------------
  160. To uninstall the program,
  161.  
  162.  1. Open the taskbar folder. 
  163.  2. Double-click on the Uninstall icon.        
  164.  3. Follow the prompts.
  165.  
  166. If you received your copy of taskbar on 
  167. diskette, you may also uninstall by:
  168.  
  169.  1. Insert the program disk in a diskette 
  170.     drive.
  171.  2. From the desktop, open the icon view 
  172.     of the diskette drive.
  173.  3. Double-click on the 'INSTALL.EXE' 
  174.     object.
  175.  4. Push the 'Uninstall' button.
  176.  5. Follow the prompts.
  177.  
  178. If you received your copy of taskbar by 
  179. downloading a ZIPped archive file, you
  180. may also uninstall by:
  181.  
  182.  1. Unzip the contents of the archive into 
  183.     a temporary directory.
  184.  2. Start an OS/2 command line session.
  185.  3. Run the installation program by typing 
  186.       'd:\path\INSTALL'
  187.     where d:\path\ contains the path name 
  188.     of the temporary directory used in 
  189.     step 1.
  190.  4. Push the 'Uninstall' button.
  191.  5. Follow the prompts.
  192.  
  193. The uninstall procedure will: 
  194.  
  195.  1. Delete the taskbar objects from your 
  196.     desktop and deregister the Taskbar 
  197.     class. 
  198.  2. Delete the taskbar program files from 
  199.     your hard drive. 
  200.  3. If the appropriate check boxes in the 
  201.     uninstall dialog box are checked, 
  202.     remove the taskbar directory from 
  203.     the LIBPATH and SET HELP= statements 
  204.     in your Config.Sys. 
  205.  4. Delete all references to taskbar from 
  206.     your OS2.INI file. 
  207.   
  208. If uninstall encountered any locked files 
  209. or if any modifications were made to your 
  210. Config.Sys, you will be told to shutdown 
  211. your system and reboot.
  212.  
  213. Do *NOT* try to uninstall this program by 
  214. manually deleting files from the OS/2 
  215. command line. You *MUST* use the provided 
  216. Uninstall program.
  217.  
  218. The uninstall procedure will create a log
  219. file named 'TASKBAR.LOG' in the root
  220. directory of your boot drive. If you
  221. encounter a problem during the uninstall
  222. process, please enclose a copy of this
  223. log file with your problem report. You
  224. may safely delete this file once the
  225. uninstall process has completed 
  226. successfully.
