  4. Hi you, out in the wide world!

  6. I hope you will like this program! It's SHAREWARE! So, read the Registration 
  7. Section of this file! We were thinking about how to spread this program when 
  8. having an ice-cream on a hot day. Lars suggested distributing it as Shareware. 
  9. I liked the idea, but I know really few people pay for their programs. 
  10.  
  11. Well, YOU know that YOU would have to pay for this program after using it for a 
  12. time. WE know YOU could be one of those people who stay in the (illegal) dark 
  13. side of software market. But imagine the follwing situation we are in: 
  14.  
  15. o We have spent a lot of money on soft drinks to keep us alive in the night :-) 
  16. o We had to withstand my father who always told us to write some real debug 
  17.   routines. 
  18. o We are two poor little programmers who want to see how many people will use 
  19.   our program. 
  20. o I have to relax from the pointers that made me nearly mad! (Lars says: Poor 
  21.   Philipp, I love pointers!) 
  22. o Lars wants to go to cinema. 
  23. o The registration fee is not too high!

  25. So, don't hasitate. Register this really nice program which can be used very 
  26. good for killing programs who want to be the ruler of the computer. It would be 
  27. really nice if you registered this program. If you don't think this program is 
  28. worth the registration fee, PLEASE send us a postcard of your hometown!! It's 
  29. the first time we support anybody else than people of our families with our 
  30. programs!

  82. Registration is required after using this program for more than two weeks. 
  83. Nobody sees you if you do not register. But you commit a crime. All the 
  84. programmers of Shareware offer you to try their programs before you buy it.

  86. If you don't like the program (I can't imagine) and don't want to use it any 
  87. longer, you just have to delete EVERYTHING of the program.

  194. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. How to use Appkiller ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  195.  
  196. Appkiller uses an undocumented API (Application Programming Interface) that 
  197. returns the running processes. Because this API is undocumented it may be 
  198. removed from further versions of OS/2 by IBM. If this API is removed, we will 
  199. change Appkiller. There are already now a lot of 'Process Monitors', but only 
  200. this one uses the new Container-Control of OS/2 2.x. If you are new to OS/2 
  201. 2.x, use the Tutorial to get used to the new controls. In general you only have 
  202. to know that you get a 'Context Menu' by clicking the right mouse button. 
  203.  
  204. There are two 'Context Menus'. The first one belongs to a process icon and 
  205. looks like that: Select 'Info...' to get information about the process the menu 
  206. belongs to. If you want to switch to the process, select 'Switch to...'. To 
  207. remove the process from the system, select 'Kill...' Be careful! The process 
  208. and all data belonging to it will be gone!!

  210. The second menu looks like that: You get it when you click the right mouse 
  211. button on an empty area inside the container. The 'Registration...'-Item lets 
  212. you interactivly register your copy of Appkiller. You can force Appkiller to 
  213. refresh the list of processes by clicking on 'UpDate'. Independent of this 
  214. there is a timer that refreshes the list in the background. With the 
  215. 'View'-Item you can change the view of the container. You can sort the items in 
  216. the container with the 'Sort'-Selection.

  219. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. 'Info'-Panel ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  221. The 'Info'-Panel shows information about one process. In the Name field you can 
  222. see the name of the process (Future addition: Real process name). The Module 
  223. field shows the .EXE-File the process belongs to. The PID (Process IDentifier) 
  224. is used by the system to identify the process. The priority of the process is 
  225. showed in the corresponding field. The Last field shows the number of threads 
  226. the process has.

  231. You use the 'Register'-Panel to register your copy of Appkiller after you 
  232. received the registration-code (see Registration) You have to fill up the 
  233. fields with the EXACT data you specified in the letter. Into the last field you 
  234. write the code you got from us! Then click on the 'OK'-Button.
