  17. JShifter for DOS, FreeWare version 1.62

  19. Concept:  Without JShifter OS/2 will always start new DOS sessions
  20. --------  (both windowed and full screen) with the Num, Caps and
  21.           Scroll Locks OFF. JShifter allows the user to shift the state
  22.           of any (or all) of those locks to ON, in all DOS sessions.

  28. Concept:  Without JShifter/2 OS/2 will always boot up with the Num Lock

  62. Install JShifter for DOS:

  65.          Run the program INSTALL.EXE. You will be asked to provide a
  66.          source and target directory; asked to select between
  67.          installation of the Danish or English version; and asked to
  68.          choose to allow the program to edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT, or
  69.          not.

  82.          If you allow editing, INSTALL will make a backup of your
  83.          original AUTOEXEC.BAT naming it AUTOEXEC.JSH; it will
  84.          add your target directory to the original path; and it will
  85.          add a command so JShifter is run automatically each time a
  86.          DOS session is started.

  88.          If you choose not to let INSTALL change your AUTOEXEC.BAT
  89.          you must edit it yourself. To have JShifter load every
  90.          DOS session: Add the executable's full path and file name
  91.          anywhere in the DOS batch file. For example:

  93.          C:\TARGET\JSHIFTER.EXE
  94.  
  95.          Where C: is the drive letter and \TARGET\ is the directory
  96.          which you specified to the install program as the 'target'
  97.          directory for installation.

  99.          To force JShifter to quick start (by bypassing the startup
  100.          menu) add the 'Quick' switch, -q. With this switch, JShifter
  101.          will start with the Num Lock ON and both the Caps and Scroll
  102.          Locks will be OFF.

  110. Install JShifter/2 for OS/2:
  111. ----------------------------
  112.  
  113.          Run the program JINSTAL.EXE which places JSHIFT2.EXE in the
  114.          OS/2 startup folder. JShifter/2 will automatically start
  115.          after the next reboot.
  116.  
  117.

  119. Usage:  JShifter/2 automatically turns Num Lock ON in the active OS/2
  120. ------  Work Place Shell (WPS) session and all OS/2 sessions launched
  121.         in a VIO window. Unfortunately, JShifter/2 will not be active
  122.         in any full screen sessions launched from the WPS. Furthermore,
  123.         when exiting such session the Num Lock will remain OFF in
  124.         the WPS. To reactivate JShifter/2 simply double click on its
  125.         icon in the startup folder (or other convenient location you
  126.         may decide). NOTE: JShifter's inability to operate in a full
  127.         screen session is a known bug which, due to the way WARP
  128.         processes full screen sessions, cannot be repaired with a
  129.         reasonable amount of work. However, JShifter/2's functionality
  130.         is expected to be included in a later Warp 4 fixpack, and it
  131.         is expected to operate equally well in all session types.
  132.  
  133.         When you open a DOS session, JShifter will, by default, turn
  134.         the Num Lock ON and both the Caps and Scroll Locks OFF in all
  135.         DOS sessions (full screen, window and WIN-OS/2). In full screen
  136.         and windowed DOS sessions JShifter will display a startup menu
  137.         while it initializes.
  138.  
  139.         If, in any particular DOS session, you want the state of
  140.         any of the locks to be other than the default: Press the F10
  141.         key while the startup menu is in view. The resulting setup
  142.         screen may then be used to switch the state of any of the
  143.         locks.
  144.  
  145.         After setting the switches, press F2 to save the new
  146.         settings. Settings remain in effect until reset via the setup
  147.         screen. If, while in set up you wish to keep the old settings:
  148.         Press the ESC key instead of the F2 key.
  149.  
  150.         If you wish to bypass the setup menu completely add the -Q
  151.         switch to the AUTOEXEC.BAT's command line. With this setup
  152.         JShifter for DOS will start all DOS and WIN-OS/2 sessions with
  153.         the Num Lock ON and the Caps and Scroll Locks OFF.

  157. Notice:  Neither JShifter nor JShifter/2 remains resident (taking memory)
  158. -------  once execution is complete.

  162. Known bugs: JShift/2 is ineffective in OS/2 full screen sessions.
  163. ----------- Additionally, the Num Lock will remain OFF when exiting
  164.             full screen OS/2 sessions.

  166.             Switching with Ctrl-Esc from a WIN-OS/2 Lotus session
  167.             turns the Num Lock OFF.
  168.  
  169.             Finally, the program does not work with the DOS Num Lock
  170.             setting program SETTSF.EXE. Use JShifter for DOS instead.

  172.             Due to a lack time to devote to this project, the first
  173.             two items will only be fixed if if there's a broad scale
