Most mailers and newsreaded use a monospaced font -- figlet output
looks best when viewed with one, although modifications to the
ouput can be made. I recommend viewing this file with a
monospaced font. In the E editor, just go under Options to Set
Font. In EPM, use the settings notebook. In other editors,
there is probably also a way :-)
This is the OS/2 port of figlet version 2.1.1, a neat hack by Ian
Chai and Glenn Chappell to produce impressive looking lettering
easily. For example, it took me only a couple of seconds to make
the title for this file. The complete directions are in the file
FIGLET.MAN so this README will only address issues relating to
the OS/2 port of the program.

The end of file signal in OS/2 is ^Z (control-Z). When you are
typing input for figlet from the console, just type ^Z and ENTER
to finish.
The default location for figlet fonts is C:\FIGLET\FONTS but this
can be overridden by the -d switch.

I hacked out a couple of REXX files, SHOWALL.CMD and
SHOWONE.CMD, to help you choose which font to use for your text.
Just put the text you want to use in a file named TEST.TXT and
then type SHOWALL. The command file will then cycle through all of
the figlet fonts in the current directory displaying the contents
of TEST.TXT in that font and then pausing so that you can look at
it. It would be easy for you to modify the command files so that
the output is redirected to a printer or to add switches to
control figlet features.

The "official" home of figlet sources, executables for many
platforms and fonts is
ftp://ftp.nicoh.com/pub/figlet
Look there for any updates to the program. The best collection
of figlet fonts (well over 100) I have seen is in the ASCII art
archive maintained by the ScareCrow. You can find the figlet
stuff in
ftp://ftp.wwa.com/pub/ScareCrow/Figlet

All of the kudos for this program should go to Glenn Chappell and
Ian Chai; I just did a rather simple port to the OS/2
environment and added the OS/2 command files. You should
send your thanks, inquiries and bug reports to
figlet@uiuc.edu
This readme was taken from the readme.dos done for the DOS port
by William Luitje (luitje@m-net.arbornet.org) on 7 September,
1995.
