  4.    You have received the first version of cyrillisation package for OS/2.
  5.  
  6. || Why do you need Chump when there are Cyrillic add-on available from
  7. || IBM to enable code page switching in Warp?
  8.  
  9.    The main disadvantage of IBM's cyrillisation is the fact that
  10.    code page 866 must be in the first place in codepage statement in
  11.    config.sys in order to enable the use of PM fonts by PM applications.
  12.    Thus it is no longer possible to use German or any other European 
  13.    language keyboard with extended ASCII keys to enter special characters
  14.    directly in PM apps.
  15.    Lotus AmiPro/2 won't even start with the code page 866 as a primary page.
  16.    Describe/2 won't allow you to enter Cyrillic characters.

  18.    Another inconvenience is inability to edit keyboard layouts or customize
  19.    the switching hotkey to user's preference. User is forced to learn
  20.    standard Russian typewriter layout.

  22.    The choice of the Type 1 fonts is limited to only one font encoding and 
  23.    your existing language specific Type 1 Windows fonts are of no use. 
  24.    Not to mention the ability to read/write Russian in KOI-8 encoding widely 
  25.    used in the Russian part of Internet.

  28. || What Chump can do for you?
  29.  
  30.    Chump is a utility to switch keyboard layouts between Latin and Cyrillic 
  31.    in OS/2 PM, Full Screen and DOS Windowed sessions. It allows up to 10 
  32.    different layouts switched with any customizable combination of 
  33.    Alt-Cntrl-Shift keys. Switching is indicated by changing color of the 
  34.    active window bar and optionally by sound. It is also possible to 
  35.    temporary disable the program.

  37.    It works by switching keyboard layouts between Latin and Cyrillic in PM, 
  38.    OS/2 fullscreen and windowed sessions and DOS windowed sessions. 
  39.    Presentation Manager is required for Chump to work.

  41.    Swithing is made by pressing "hot keys" which is any combination of 
  42.    Shift-Ctrl-Alt keys. User can monitor current keyboard mode by the color 
  43.    of the active window bar.

  45.    The window bar color and the desired keyboard layout are fully customizable. 
  46.    Chump supports up to ten different keyboard layouts. Chump can also be 
  47.    temporary disabled.

  64.    Installation:

  67. 1. Copy file chumpd.dll to any directory in the LIBPATH statement of your 
  68.    config.sys file (\OS2\DLL for example)
  69.  
  70. 2. Create a directory on your hard drive and place all other files from 
  71.    this archive to this directory. Files ched.exe and chum.exe must be 
  72.    in the same directory.

  74. 3. Add the following line to your config.sys file:

  76.         RUN=drive:\path\chumpmon.exe
  77.  
  78. 4. Create the desktop objects for Chump.exe and ChEd.exe Place Chump object 
  79.     into the StartUp folder.

  81. 5. Launch ChEd.  Edit keyboard layouts, window bar color and adjust swithcing 
  82.    keys according to your preferences. While editing Russian keyboard layouts 
  83.    it is recommended to use the same PM Type 1 font that you will be using in 
  84.    your PM applications to enter Cyrillic.

  86.    Tip: After you drag the Type 1 font from the Font Palette and drop it into 
  87.    the ChEd window press the Shift key (This is corrected in the version 1.10)

  89. 6. Reboot your machine.

  92.    Some more tips:

  95.  - In order to see Cyrillic in OS/2 and DOS windowsed sessions you have to 
  96.    obtain PM bitmap fonts for the code page 850 containing Cyrillic 
  97.    characters. These fonts are available at ftp.kiae.su in /pub/os2/cyr as 
  98.    fon_warp.lzh (Courtesy of Dima Osipov).

  100.  - You kan add keyboard layouts to suit any encoding of the available to you 
  101.    Type 1 fonts. It is much better then the hussle of converting all your 
  102.    beautiful Windows fonts into the code page, supported by OS/2.

  104.  - In Describe/2 word processor press NumLock key if you seem not to be able 
  105.    to type cyrillic.

  107.  - Test Chump, enjoy it and soon register to get the new wastly improved 
  108.    version 1.10 of Chump!
