  15. Description
  16. A new feature of OS/2 is the ability to select the 'config.sys' file that will be used at boot time from the 
  17. recovery menu. You may wish to do have different configuration files for a variety of reasons. If you 
  18. have a memory constrained system (8MB these days) you may find that your machine will run a little 
  19. more slowly if you have all the features of the Bonus Pack installed at once. You may want to use 
  20. different config.sys files so that only the drivers you are going to use are loaded. Another situation 
  21. when you may want different config.sys files is when you have a portable computer that is sometimes 
  22. connected to a network or a docking station and sometimes its not. 
  23. I have found the multiple config.sys  capability of  Warp rather useful although  laborious to setup and 
  24. maintain. This then was the incentive for writing the program - to bring together and manage the files 
  25. you need to maintain if you use multiple config.sys files. The program itself contains a fully functional 
  26. editor with Find, Replace, Copy, Paste and printing and so is a good tool for editing config.sys files. The 
  27. program automatically managers the .SCR and .CMD files. The program itself is a MS-Windows 3.1 
  28. program and will run under Warp provided you have installed the WIN-OS2 option. I recommend using 
  29. the program in Windows Full Screen Mode rather than seamless. If there is sufficient interest I will 
  30. produce a native OS/2 version - all registered users of the Windows version who have electronic mail 
  31. will then receive the native OS/2 version for free.
  32. Installation
  33. Installation is extremely straightforward - simply copy the program file into the directory you will use it 
  34. from and then using the windows file manager drag and drop the program exe file onto the program 
  35. manager into the intended group - this will create a program icon for the program. If you don't have the 
  36. file 'CTL3Dv2.DLL' in your windows\system directory then copy the one supplied in this archive.
  37. Settings
  38. You may alter both where the program looks for config.sys (the boot drive) and for the other files that 
  39. control the startup menu - these are usually found on the boot drive in the subdirectory \os2\boot.
  40. Use
  41. The recovery menu
  42. If you have not yet discovered the recovery menu there are two ways of bringing it up. 
  43. 1. After selecting OS/2 from the boot manager (if you use it) you will see 'OS/2' in the top left of your 
  44. screen while its still in text mode. Hit alt-f1 at this point and a few moments later you will see the 
  45. recovery menu. 
  46. 2. From the OS/2 Desktop Settings notebook choose the 'archive' tab and check the 'display recovery 
  47. choices at each restart' option.
  48. Adding to the Configuration List
  49. Adding a new configuration
  50.   Click on the Add Button in the configuration list dialog box. This will show you the Add dialog box. 
  51. You can enter any description you like. 
  52.   Press tab to move the hot key edit control  and enter a hot key. Some keys are reserved by OS/2 - 
  53. you will not be able to use these and you will not be able to use a hot key that is already in use
  54.   If you have want to create a config.sys based on the current config.sys then check the 'create from 
  55. existing config.sys' control. If you know you already have a config.sys that relates to the new hot 
  56. key then don't check this if you want to re-use it. If you do check it then any config file relating to 
  57. the hotkey will be overwritten.
  58. Using a previous configuration file
  59. If you know you already have a config.sys that relates to the new hot key then don't check 'the create 
  60. from existing config.sys' button. When the editor starts it will contain the old config file. If you do check 
  61. this control then any config file relating to the hotkey will be overwritten
  62. Deleting Items from the list
  63. Select the item you want to delete from the startup menu and then press the delete key. The entry will 
  64. then be removed. Although the item is removed from the startup menu any files relating to this 
  65. configuration will be preserved for you to use again.
  66. Updating an Item in the list
  67. If you would like to change the description for an existing hotkey then select the description from the 
  68. list you want to change and then edit the description. Press the update button to update the description 
  69. in the list. 
  70. Editing a configuration file
  71. Double click on the item in the list or select the item and press edit to start the editor that will allow you 
  72. to edit a config.sys. Remember that config.sys file will not be used until you reboot the computer and 
  73. select it from the recovery menu.

  81. This program was written by N.Waltham and may be freely copied for evaluation purposes only.

  83. being sent a non shareware copy of the latest version of the program. If  you do not register then there 
  84. will be no further versions of this or any other program and the shareware concept will have failed.

  91. media format that you prefer and I will post you a copy.
