What is RM_TREE?
RM_TREE (ReMove the TREE) is a utility that removes all directory structures
under a defined starting directory. This utility will remove all sub-
directories and files that exist under the directory where RM_TREE was
executed.
It will delete all files (READ-ONLY, SYSTEM, HIDDEN, ARCHIVE, NORMAL) in each
directory before removing them (**DOS ONLY: It does not remove SYSTEM, READ-
ONLY or HIDDEN files under OS/2**).
This utility will save you a lot of time when you have to remove a set of
sub-directories that may or may not contain files. Normally you will have to
delete all files in each sub-directory and then remove them one at a time.
This utility can run in the PROMPTING mode OFF (see -n switch) which
operates without requiring user confirmation. Perfect for batch processing.
RM_TREE does not touch or delete any of the files into the directory where
it is activated (current directory) except if -c switch is used. It ONLY does
its job in sub-directories when -c switch is not used (see -c switch).
Because of the POWER of RM_TREE be careful when using it. Learn how to use
it into a test sub-directory structure.
WHAT IS NEW IN VERSION 1.1
--------------------------
New parameter: -c (read section "how to use rm_tree")
WHAT IS NEW IN VERSION 1.2
--------------------------

0 : Processing completed.
0 : ? option use for help text.
1 : Operation aborted (user request).
2 : Invalid option.
3 : Invalid syntax.
(**OS/2 Only**) 6 : SYSTEM, READ-ONLY or HIDDEN files exist.
Messages displayed in the verbose mode have been changed to include the full
directory path. Minor modification done in the algorythm used so far.
An OS/2 version made available based on DOS version 1.2.
HOW TO USE RM_TREE
------------------
At the DOS prompt type: RM_TREE ? to get the online help information which
involves no processing by RM_TREE.
Four options (switches) are available:
-c : CURRENT directory. When activated, RM_TREE will delete all files
that exist in the current (starting) directory. This is an
addition to the normal processing.
In the default state (when no -c passed as parameter) RM_TREE
DO NOT TOUCH any files of the current (starting) directory.
-n : PROMPTING. When activated, RM_TREE WILL NOT ASK any user
confirmation prior to processing. Be CAREFUL and SURE of what
you are doing.
In the default state (when no -n passed as parameter) RM_TREE
ALWAYS requires a user confirmation prior to proceeding.
-v : VERBOSE output. When activated, RM_TREE gives a more detailed
"on the go" display status. It displays each directory name while
being processed and each file name prior to deletion.
In the default state (when no -v passed as parameter) RM_TREE
display no information about the running process. This is the
fastest way it runs.
? : HELP. Gives brief help text information on the different
options (switches) available.
(**DOS Version ONLY **)
