  30. This program serves for the formatting of diskettes under PM (Presentation 
  31. Manager) of OS/2. The user interaction is handled completely in a small window 
  32. and is very clearly arranged therefore. The big amount of command line switches 
  33. of the original format program is obsolete for this reason.

  35. The program generates the volume id automatically for disks formatted first 
  36. time; it is preserved on disks which were formatted before. In addition to that 
  37. the user will receive a warning if the disk, which is to be formatted, contains 
  38. data already.

  40. We, Klaus Breining and Markus Noller, distribute common written software under 
  41. the name KLARKUS. Although all these programs were written as a hobby in our 
  42. spare time, is it our attempt, to release only full functional and thoroughly 
  43. tested programs to the public. If you find any errors, report them to us.

  61. The program is started by simply typing PMFORMAT on the command line. 
  62. Parameters are neither necessary nor recognized.

  67. The program can be inserted very easily into a group of the PM program starter. 
  68. It can be invoked from there with a single "Double-Klick".

  71. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Usage ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  72.  
  73. The usage of this program is rather simple. You only have to enter the name of 
  74. the new diskette and to select the drive and the kind of disk  (High Density - 
  75. HD oder Double Density - DD). This could be done in any sequence; the entry of 
  76. a diskette label is optional and not necassary. Pushing to the FORMAT-button 
  77. starts the formatting. 
  78.  
  79. During the formatting the button becomes "insensitive"; it is impossible to 
  80. push it again. When the format is complete this is signalled with a bell tone 
  81. and a popup window. In that window some data is displayed about the diskette. 
  82. Now the FORMAT-button is selectable again then. 
  83.  
  84. If the diskette is already formatted, this is shown to the user. An additional 
  85. window is opened; it shows the volume-id and the diskette name if present. You 
  86. can decide now to proceed with  your format or abort it. The popup of this 
  87. window is connected to a bell tone also. This is for the case you changed to a 
  88. full screen session right after pushing the button; so you won't wait for the 
  89. end of the format for a very long time.

  91. If there occurres a system error during format, the program will show it in an 
  92. additional popup window too. The error number supplied with the text could be 
  93. used for reference in the HELP command on the command line. An error on your 
  94. diskette is shown by a red segment on the progress display bar.

  96. Is the format aborted by a system error or by user in the system menu, there 
  97. will be no problems according the drive (Locking or something like that),  but 
  98. the diskette is inoperable and should be formatted again before use as a 
  99. storage medium.

  101. The current version of PMFORMAT is capable of storing the position of the 
  102. window on the desktop. You can do this, as usual in PM, by selecting "System / 
  103. Save" in the system manager menu. Additional to that you may select "Save 
  104. Position" in the sytem menu of the program, which is the small button on the 
  105. left side of the title bar. In this case only the current position of the 
  106. PMFORMAT window is saved.

  111. This program is released as SHAREWARE. You recognize that when You see the 
  112. registration request popping up right after the program start. The only 
  113. difference between the shareware version and the registered version is this 
  114. window; it appears only in the shareware version. The whole rest of the program 
  115. is exactly the same. This is the case because I hate cripple-ware. So I am not 
  116. willing to release crippled versions (not at the moment at least) of our 
  117. programs.

  119. Nevertheless, I ask everybody who is willing to continue the use of this 
  120. program in the future to send the filled regist- ration form back to me.  We 
  121. are very interested if there are enough OS/2 users who are willing to pay some 
  122. money for "Shareware made in Germany".

  124. Of course, we are wanting only VERY LITTLE MONEY (not worth talking about). So 
  125. the INTERNATIONAL version (there exists a German version as well) can be 
  126. received for the prize of:

  131. for company licenses). You get  the registered version on a diskette of your 
  132. choice 5 1/4 inch or 3 1/2 inch and a note, if there is an upgrade because of a 
  133. bug (we don't hope so) or because of user requests.

  135. Note:  Please do NOT send any cheques. Send bank notes, please ! There is a 
  136.        rather high fee for discharging foreign cheques at German banks (about $ 
  137.        8 - for a $ 5 cheque). So letters containing cheques go directly to 
  138.        /DEV/NULL (if the cheque is not $ 15 or above <grin> )

  141.  work and we will shurely write some more programs for OS/2 then, what can be
