Subj: Belong to the SPA? Section: Marketing OS/2 Apps

Hey folks...
This is mostly a matter of curiosity. Does your company belong to the Software Publisher's
Association? Why, or why not?
I'm writing an article for the computer user group's magazine, and mentioning that the SPA's sales
numbers are always suspect because they report only on the SPA's membership -- few of which
publish OS/2 titles. But, well, why don't more OS/2 ISVs belong to the SPA?
I have no idea what benefits or costs are associated with SPA membership, nor am I recommending
that you do/don't join. I just didn't know the answer, so I thought I would ask you.

Esther,
> Does your company belong to the Software Publisher's Association?
No.
> Why, or why not?
We've seen no significant benefit to memebership.

What are the *alleged* benefits to membership? Does the SPA call software companies and ask
them to join (rather like a nerd Rotary Club, I guess)? What benefits do the bigger companies get...
other than the ostensible anti-piracy PR (which I'm not sure has had any real impact)?

Esther,
> Does the SPA call software companies and ask them to join ?
Not in our case; I happened upon them in some CIS forum (PRSIG?).
> What are the *alleged* benefits to membership? <
Nothing significant, from what I recall. Typical things, like access to low cost publishing, duplicating
services, and other stuff like that. Obviously it was so "un" compelling I was compelled to drop the
matter.
I hope someone from the SPA can appear here to present their side of the situation; I'm sure their
services are of value, or else there wouldn't be an SPA, eh?
