  6. Welcome to Warp Enhancer Pre-Release!
  7.  
  8. Before starting to use Warp Enhancer, you should carefully
  9. read this document as it contains some important information
  10. and security issues.
  11.  
  12. 1. Installation
  13.  
  14.   - Only for German users:
  15.     Hinweis: Wenn Sie Warp Enhancer in der deutschen
  16.     Version verwenden wollen, sollten Sie die Datei
  17.     WE.INI durch die Datei WEDE.INI ersetzen, indem
  18.     Sie durch "copy WEDE.INI WE.INI" die alte Datei
  19.     ueberschreiben. Dies verhindert, dass der Warp
  20.     Enhancer standardmaessig englisch erscheint.
  21.     Kommende Versionen werden die installierte
  22.     Betriebssystem-Version automatisch erkennen.
  23.   - If you have previous versions of Warp Enhancer
  24.     on your system, close it and execute the file
  25.     REMOVE.CMD. Now you can delete the old version.
  26.   - DO NOT INSTALL Warp Enhancer if you don't run
  27.     OS/2 Warp Version 3 or above. It will not run
  28.     on any OS/2 version prior to version 3.
  29.   - Unzip the archive containing Warp Enhancer into a
  30.     directory of your choice.
  31.   - Run the install script INSTALL.CMD which creates
  32.     a program object on your desktop. It doesn't
  33.     change anything in your system, it only creates
  34.     a desktop object.
  35.   - If you want Warp Enhancer to be started each time
  36.     your system is started, create a shadow of the
  37.     Warp Enhancer object in your system start folder.
  38.   - *NO* reboot necessary, Warp Enhancer can
  39.     immediately be started using the desktop object.
  40.  
  41. 2. The first start
  42.  
  43.   - Starting Warp Enhancer for the first time may take
  44.     a while because it copies a file to your \OS2\DLL
  45.     directory, registers a new WPS class and creates an
  46.     instance of this class.
  47.     NOTE: Using an option in the Warp Enhancer settings
  48.     notebook, you can specify that Warp Enhancer un-
  49.     registers the WPS class and deletes the DLL file
  50.     everytime you close it. With this option, really
  51.     *NOTHING* in your system gets changed. The WPS class
  52.     consumes very little memory (~14kB) and does not replace
  53.     existing classes so that no program or utility will
  54.     be affected.
  55.  
  56. 3. Features and Functions
  57.  
  58.   - Status bars for WPS folders which display information
  59.     about the number of objects, their size, the number of
  60.     selected objects and their size. Information level can
  61.     be configured or the status bar can be disabled.
  62.   - Font and color selection via settings dialog or font
  63.     respective color palette. Simply drag font/color to the
  64.     status bar of any open WPS folder and all folders will adapt
  65.     to the change. For text color, hold Ctrl-Key while dropping
  66.     color on the status bar.
  67.   - Mouse button 2 pressed over a status bar shows a context menu
  68.     with some options. "Calculate folder size..." brings up a dialog
  69.     which calculates the size of the folder including all subfolders
  70.     respective subdirectories.
  71.   - Mouse button 3 can be configured to simulate a double click
  72.     with mouse button 1.
  73.   - Entries in the window list can be hidden. This only works for
  74.     entries that are present before Warp Enhancer is started. This
  75.     limitation will be removed in a future version (soon!).
  76.   - Enhanced OS/2 shutdown dialog with selection between normal
  77.     shutdown, reboot, dual boot or hibernation.
  78.   - Numlock key can be permanently turned on.
  79.   - Many little features, like popup menus on title bars, support
  80.     for Win 95 keys, open parent folder with backspace, mouse
  81.     button 1 and 2 show window list, no move and size of
  82.     maximized windows, file extension sort for folders, hide
  83.     mouse pointer after inactivity...
  84.   - Scrolling with mouse button 3. This allows you to scroll the
  85.     content of most windows without having to move your mouse
  86.     pointer to the scroll bar. Very handy with Netscape/2.
  87.   - Much more features will come... We also need your input!

  89. 4. Uninstallation
  90.  
  91.   - You can always uninstall Warp Enhancer. Be sure that
  92.     the "Remove WPS helper class on exit" option on the
  93.     General page of the settings notebook is checked and
  94.     exit the program. Now you can delete the directory
  95.     containing Warp Enhancer files. Warp Enhancer is
  96.     now completey removed and no modifications have
  97.     been made to your system at all. (Note: Due to a bug
  98.     you might have to remove \OS2\DLL\WEWPS.DLL manually
  99.     after selecting the option and closing Warp Enhancer)
  100.   - You should run REMOVE.CMD to make sure that everything
  101.     is deinstalled.
  102.  
  103. 5. Security Issues
  104.  
  105.   - Warp Enhancer Pre-Release has been tested very
  106.     carefully. It may however still contain some
  107.     bugs. Due to the very close interactions with
  108.     the operating system and the overall complexity,
  109.     bugs normally result in WPS hangs. Most times,
  110.     it's possible to access your applications when
  111.     the WPS hangs and to save your work. However,
  112.     we will NOT guarantee for an error free operation
  113.     of Warp Enhancer.
  114.   - NEVER EXIT WARP ENHANCER WITH ANY KILL UTILITY!
  115.     THIS WILL PROBABLY LEAD TO A WPS CRASH. DON'T
  116.     USE THE UNDOCUMENTED KILL FEATURE OF THE WARP
  117.     CENTER! WARP ENHANCER CAN ONLY BE SAFELY CLOSED
  118.     VIA WINDOW LIST (no confirmation) OR THE SETTINGS
  119.     NOTEBOOK.
  120.   - Warp Enhancer is more a Pre-Release than a real
  121.     Beta version, meaning that it's rather not feature
  122.     complete than buggy. Im most circumstances, you
  123.     should not encounter any major program failures.

  125. 6. Support
  126.  
  127.   - You can subscribe to the Warp Enhancer Announcement List.
  128.     This Announcement List will provide you with information on
  129.     new releases and other announcements. You can subscribe
  130.     by sending an email to achimha@frodo.s.bawue.de. Don't
  131.     forget to put "Warp Enhancer Mailing List" (without
  132.     quotes) in the subject of your mail.
  133.   - There's now also a "real" public and unmoderated mailing
  134.     list. This allows to discuss about Warp Enhancer with
  135.     other users. To subscribe, send an email to
  136.     majordomo@frodo.s.bawue.de and put in the body of the
  137.     mail (not in the subject!)
  138.       subscribe warpenhancer <email>
  139.     If you don't want your replay address to be used by
  140.     majordomo, replace <email> by the address you prefer.
  141.     Otherwise just omit this field.
  142.     This will subscribe you to the list. You can always 
  143.     unsubscribe from the list by sending a message to the
  144.     same address and putting in the body of this message
  145.       unsubscribe warpenhaner <email>
  146.     If you have problems with the majordomo software, send
  147.     an email with "help" in the body (no quotes!) or just
  148.     send an email to warpenhancer-owner@frodo.s.bawue.de
  149.     IMPORTANT: As the majordomo system only has a dial-up
  150.     internet connection, it may take some time until you
  151.     receive an answer for your requests. No messages will
  152.     be lost, though.
  153.   - Electronic support via email is available on an
  154.     "as time permits" basis. You can always send comments,
  155.     bug reports, feature requests or whatever to the email
  156.     address support@frodo.s.bawue.de. Due to the large
  157.     number or emails, it may take some days until you get
  158.     a personal answer. We will however send you a notification
  159.     when an email has been received.
  160.   - Telephone suppport is also available for a certain fee.
