Welcome to Warp Enhancer Pre-Release!
Before starting to use Warp Enhancer, you should carefully
read this document as it contains some important information
and security issues.
1. Installation
- Only for German users:
Hinweis: Wenn Sie Warp Enhancer in der deutschen
Version verwenden wollen, sollten Sie die Datei
WE.INI durch die Datei WEDE.INI ersetzen, indem
Sie durch "copy WEDE.INI WE.INI" die alte Datei
ueberschreiben. Dies verhindert, dass der Warp
Enhancer standardmaessig englisch erscheint.
Kommende Versionen werden die installierte
Betriebssystem-Version automatisch erkennen.
- If you have previous versions of Warp Enhancer
on your system, close it and execute the file
REMOVE.CMD. Now you can delete the old version.
- DO NOT INSTALL Warp Enhancer if you don't run
OS/2 Warp Version 3 or above. It will not run
on any OS/2 version prior to version 3.
- Unzip the archive containing Warp Enhancer into a
directory of your choice.
- Run the install script INSTALL.CMD which creates
a program object on your desktop. It doesn't
change anything in your system, it only creates
a desktop object.
- If you want Warp Enhancer to be started each time
your system is started, create a shadow of the
Warp Enhancer object in your system start folder.
- *NO* reboot necessary, Warp Enhancer can
immediately be started using the desktop object.
2. The first start
- Starting Warp Enhancer for the first time may take
a while because it copies a file to your \OS2\DLL
directory, registers a new WPS class and creates an
instance of this class.
NOTE: Using an option in the Warp Enhancer settings
notebook, you can specify that Warp Enhancer un-
registers the WPS class and deletes the DLL file
everytime you close it. With this option, really
*NOTHING* in your system gets changed. The WPS class
consumes very little memory (~14kB) and does not replace
existing classes so that no program or utility will
be affected.
3. Features and Functions
- Status bars for WPS folders which display information
about the number of objects, their size, the number of
selected objects and their size. Information level can
be configured or the status bar can be disabled.
- Font and color selection via settings dialog or font
respective color palette. Simply drag font/color to the
status bar of any open WPS folder and all folders will adapt
to the change. For text color, hold Ctrl-Key while dropping
color on the status bar.
- Mouse button 2 pressed over a status bar shows a context menu
with some options. "Calculate folder size..." brings up a dialog
which calculates the size of the folder including all subfolders
respective subdirectories.
- Mouse button 3 can be configured to simulate a double click
with mouse button 1.
- Entries in the window list can be hidden. This only works for
entries that are present before Warp Enhancer is started. This
limitation will be removed in a future version (soon!).
- Enhanced OS/2 shutdown dialog with selection between normal
shutdown, reboot, dual boot or hibernation.
- Numlock key can be permanently turned on.
- Many little features, like popup menus on title bars, support
for Win 95 keys, open parent folder with backspace, mouse
button 1 and 2 show window list, no move and size of
maximized windows, file extension sort for folders, hide
mouse pointer after inactivity...
- Scrolling with mouse button 3. This allows you to scroll the
content of most windows without having to move your mouse
pointer to the scroll bar. Very handy with Netscape/2.
- Much more features will come... We also need your input!
4. Uninstallation
- You can always uninstall Warp Enhancer. Be sure that
the "Remove WPS helper class on exit" option on the
General page of the settings notebook is checked and
exit the program. Now you can delete the directory
containing Warp Enhancer files. Warp Enhancer is
now completey removed and no modifications have
been made to your system at all. (Note: Due to a bug
you might have to remove \OS2\DLL\WEWPS.DLL manually
after selecting the option and closing Warp Enhancer)
- You should run REMOVE.CMD to make sure that everything
is deinstalled.
5. Security Issues
- Warp Enhancer Pre-Release has been tested very
carefully. It may however still contain some
bugs. Due to the very close interactions with
the operating system and the overall complexity,
bugs normally result in WPS hangs. Most times,
it's possible to access your applications when
the WPS hangs and to save your work. However,
we will NOT guarantee for an error free operation
of Warp Enhancer.
- NEVER EXIT WARP ENHANCER WITH ANY KILL UTILITY!
THIS WILL PROBABLY LEAD TO A WPS CRASH. DON'T
USE THE UNDOCUMENTED KILL FEATURE OF THE WARP
CENTER! WARP ENHANCER CAN ONLY BE SAFELY CLOSED
VIA WINDOW LIST (no confirmation) OR THE SETTINGS
NOTEBOOK.
- Warp Enhancer is more a Pre-Release than a real
Beta version, meaning that it's rather not feature
complete than buggy. Im most circumstances, you
should not encounter any major program failures.
6. Support
- You can subscribe to the Warp Enhancer Announcement List.
This Announcement List will provide you with information on
new releases and other announcements. You can subscribe
by sending an email to achimha@frodo.s.bawue.de. Don't
forget to put "Warp Enhancer Mailing List" (without
quotes) in the subject of your mail.
- There's now also a "real" public and unmoderated mailing
list. This allows to discuss about Warp Enhancer with
other users. To subscribe, send an email to
majordomo@frodo.s.bawue.de and put in the body of the

subscribe warpenhancer <email>
If you don't want your replay address to be used by

Otherwise just omit this field.
This will subscribe you to the list. You can always
unsubscribe from the list by sending a message to the
