  2. {Press Release} IBM Antivirus Version 2.0 Supports OS/2 Warp

  4.      STERLING FOREST, N.Y., Oct. 11 1994 . . . IBM's AntiVirus                  
  5. Version 2.0* will protect new OS/2* Warp, Version 3 software                    
  6. products with the most reliable and advanced anti-virus products                
  7. and services available.                                                         
  8.                                                                                 
  9.      IBM AntiVirus Version 2.0, available in December 1994, will                
  10. be a full 32-bit OS/2 application.  Its new features include                    
  11. more powerful scanning technology that enhances IBM AntiVirus's                 
  12. ability to detect polymorphic and encrypted viruses and neural                  
  13. networks to detect unknown boot viruses.  In addition, IBM                      
  14. AntiVirus 2.0 can update virus data files.                                      
  15.                                                                                 
  16.      IBM AntiVirus Version 2.0, which supersedes IBM AntiVirus                  
  17. Version 1.7, is available for OS/2, DOS and Windows** systems. It               
  18. offers LAN Server protection, including a NetWare*** Loadable                   
  19. Module, which now checks inside compressed files.  IBM AntiVirus                
  20. Version 2.0 uses heuristics to defend against previously unknown                
  21. viruses, detects more than 3,000 known viruses and can eradicate                
  22. most common computer viruses.

  24.      "There is an optimal policy for spending on anti-virus                     
  25. awareness, software deployment, and emergency response," says                   
  26. Alan Fedeli, manager, IBM AntiVirus Products and Services, IBM                  
  27. Business Recovery Services.  "That optimal policy is based on                   
  28. solid information, not just reactions to rumors.  IBM AntiVirus                 
  29. has the lowest rate of false alarms in the industry, and offers                 
  30. more reliable disinfection than other anti-virus software.  This                
  31. is critical because unnecessary disinfection can at times cause                 
  32. further damage to programs."

  34.      IBM AntiVirus Products and Services, an offering of IBM                    
  35. Business Recovery Services, develops and markets IBM AntiVirus                  
  36. software, as well as offering emergency assistance and analysis                 
  37. of viruses in IBM research laboratories.
