TuneUp is a tool to assist administrators of IBM LAN Server version 2.0 and 3.0
in performance and tuning of their LAN Server environments.
This offers an easy interface where users are prompted for questions and
then recommendations are calculated and supplied back in an ascii file.
Ramcalc is a separate tool included with TuneUp. Ramcalc provides an
easy interface to determine the amount data ram area Netbios and 802.2
protocols are utilizing. Each protocol must be less than 64k of system
RAM that is allocated for its use.
<Very Important > This ONLY applies for servers with
LAN Server 2.0 and more than one LAN adapter.
LAN Server version 2.0 allows you to have up to 4 adapters
in a server but not on the same LAN segment.
To be able to tune a LAN Server running version 2.0 with
mulitple LAN adapter cards adhere to the following:
When answering all questions take in account all LAN segments
as a whole.
For example: If you have two adapters going to two
segments, and one segment had 25 and
the other segment had 75 OS/2 requesters
you would have a total of 100 OS/2 requesters.
After calculations have been made you might need to adjust
the [net] lines in the ibmlan.ini file for sessions, commands and
and names.
Using the above example: The net line serving the 25
OS/2 requesters would only require 25 sessions,
while the segment with 75 requesters would
require a net line of at least 75 sessions.
<<< Warning, if you are using OS/2 1.3 the threads parameter should be
adjusted to 512 >>>
