Application Setup.
To setup the application there is a Setup... option available from the popup
menu that is displayed by clicking mouse button two over the TimeTracker main
window. The Setup... option displays the TimeTracker setup and definition
window.
Most options on this window are fairly self explanatory.
Labelled buttons - The letter or number or symbol you enter in the Button
Label field is displayed on the button for the task and can be used as a
shortcut key to press the button when the TimeTracker window is the
currently active one.
Small buttons - if you have not chosen Labelled buttons and you select
this item then the buttons used are reduced to half size. If you have
selected Labelled buttons then the buttons used are slightly larger than
half size.
Coloured buttons - Yes, you guessed, the buttons are coloured in for you.
You can use the slider controls on this setup window to set the colour
that is used for each button.
Beep when pressed - a confirmation beep is issued using the PC speaker
when you press a button.
Display vertical window - the main window is re-orientated vertically.
Float on top - the application will wake up every few seconds and make
itself the topmost window. This option may cause conflicts with other
applications that have a similar option.
Calculate task duration - if this option is not selected then you will
have to define how much time should be logged to each task that you log.
When this mode is not selected then TimeTracker effectively logs time
retrospectively and depends on you to enter a valid record of time spent.
If Calculate task duration is selected (the default) then TimeTracker
keeps track of the time you spend on each task. It starts timing when you
press a button and stops logging time to that task when you press the
next button or you select Stop task from the popup menu or you close
TimeTracker. You can read more about Calculate task duration here.
Prompt if task duration exceeds X minutes - allows you to set a threshold
time so that if you leave TimeTracker running overnight by accident
logging time to a task then it will put up a confirmation dialog when you
try to log all those extra hours. You can then adjust the amount of time
allocated to the task. By default this threshold is set to 420 minutes (7
hours).
Number of buttons - this control allows you to set the number of buttons
to be displayed and the number of different tasks to allow. If you alter
this control then a pushbutton will appear which says Make it so -->>>.
When you hit this pushbutton then the new button definitions can be
changed by selecting then from the Current button control. You must hit
the Make it so -->>> pushbutton before you can select the new tasks from
the Current button control. If you reduce the number of buttons and the
Current button on this display is set to a button higher than the new
number allocated, then the current button will be set to the last one
allocated.
Current button - Use this control to cycle through the tasks allocated.
The contents of the other fields on this window change according to the
contents of this control. Altering this will change all of the following
Button Label, Red, Green and Blue sliders, Task Description, Duration of
task , and all Autoprompt related fields
Button Label - if you have selected Labelled buttons then this field is
modifiable and you should enter the character that you want to appear on
the button. This is used as the shortcut key so you can press the button
in question by using the keyboard. It must be unique. If you have
selected Coloured buttons then the background of this field displays the
colour that will be used for this button.
Task Description - Enter the description of the current task in this
field. It can be up to 131 characters long. If you start the description

If you reduce the number of buttons and the
Current button on this display is set to a button higher than the new
number allocated, then the current button will be set to the last one
allocated.

Reporting
When you select the Report... option from the popup menu, you'll see a
dialog window that asks you to specify the report parameters.
These report parameters are divided into several areas of similarity.
Detail level
The first group asks you to specify how to summarise records. The choices
are to:
Summarise on full description which combines the duration from log
records which contain identical description fields.
Summarise on first X words which combines and reports on records with the
first X words of the description being identical.
Report all entries which generates a separate report line for each log
record.
In addition, it is also possible to select the checkbox to Group entries by
date which adds another level to the report using the previous levels. For
example, selecting "Summarise on full description" and "Group entries by
date", would generate a report that combined log records with identical
descriptions only if they occured on the same day. Log records with the same
description from different days would generate a separate report line.
Selecting "Group entries by date" and "Report all entries" will produce a
report that contains no summary but is sorted by date first then by
description. The same report without the "Group entries by date" checkbox set
would be sorted only by description not by date.
Date Range
The next group allows you to set a date range for the report. It can be
specified in one of two ways - either by setting a start and end date or by
reporting on the previous X days. A value of zero in the previous X days field
reports only on today, a value of 6 reports on today and the previous six days
(seven days in total).
Search words
It's possible to select log file records based on whether they contain or do
not contain certain words. There are four fields available to enter search
words and these are ANDed together. If you specify CLIENT and WORK as search
words then only records containing both words in the description are selected
for the report. To use the NOT function you should prefix your search word
with an exclamation mark (!). For example to produce a report on all log
entries that contain the words writing and code and not Sysbench then you
would use search words of
WRITING CODE !SYSBENCH
There is no OR function available.
Report title and destination
You can specify the title to appear at the top of each page. If the title that
you specify contains the characters &SDATE or &EDATE they will be changed by
the report writer to the start date and end date that you specified for the
report. The variables may be upper or lower case. The resulting title will be
centred at the top of the page.
The Print to File... option generates a text file containing the report and
starts the OS/2 System Editor to view the file. You can use "Save as..." from
this to put the file to a different location. You can change the maximum width
of the report from 40 to 999 characters - the default is 100. You can change
the page length (number of lines between title lines) from 10 to 9999 - the
default is 60.
The Print to default printer option is not available. No printer support is
provided.
The ability to execute a rexx exec is also included. The exec is passed the
log record before it is added to the report but after it is selected by the
report writer based on the
