  3.                       Thelp for OS/2
  4.      A text mode OS/2 inf and hlp view, convert and search program.
  5.                 A help system for Tshell users.

  8.  Overview.
  9.  
  10.   Thelp is an OS/2 text mode program. With Thelp you can search, view and
  11.   convert inf and hlp files to text. The Thelp package includes a replacement
  12.   file for HELP.CMD which will call Thelp.exe (instead of View.exe) with OS/2's
  13.   native syntax for calling help. Also included is a file which can replace
  14.   View.exe so that 4OS/2 can use Thelp as its help viewer.

  16.  Getting Started.

  18.   Place the file thelp.exe in a convenient directory, or in X:\OS2 (where X: is
  19.   the drive where OS/2 is installed). This is where OS/2's 'view.exe' and
  20.   'HELP.CMD' are usually found. Emx.dll and emxlibc.dll need to be in a directory 
  21.   specified in the LIBPATH statement. Thelp will not run from non writeable 
  22.   media, ie a write protected floppy (or a cdrom). Delete any old thelp.ini files
  23.   you may have on your disk.

  25.  Usage.
  26.   
  27.   If the directory Thelp.exe is in is not on the path, make that directory the 
  28.   current directory. Type 'Thelp' at the OS/2 prompt. Thelp takes arguments as
  29.   follows:
  30.   'thelp [filename] [searchtext]'
  31.   Thelp will search the inf or hlp file 'filename' for the text 'searchtext'.
  32.   The default file to open if none is specified is 'cmdref.inf'.

  34.   Once opened, F1 brings up a screen with all the command keys listed.

  36.  Thelp with Tshell.
  37.  
  38.   OS/2's help system doesn't work with the replacement shell, Tshell.
  39.   Included  is a replacement for HELP.CMD which calls Thelp instead of 
  40.   view.exe, but will allow OS/2,to display the sys000? type messages on the
  41.   screen.

  43.   Steps to get a functioning help system in Tshell :-
  44.   a) Rename HELP.CMD in X:\OS2 (where X is the drive letter).
  45.   b) Place the files Helpsrt.exe and HELP001.CMD in X:\OS2.
  46.   c) Place Thelp.exe in a directory on the path, or in X:\OS2.
  47.   d) Rename HELP001.CMD to HELP.CMD.

  49.    Do NOT remove or rename Helpmsg.exe.

  51.   The help system should now work with the same syntax as OS/2 native help
  52.   system (within the limitations of Thelp).
  53.  
  54.  Thelp with 4OS/2.
  55.  
  56.   Thelp can be used as a replacement for 'View.exe' when 4OS/2 is used as the
  57.   shell. If View.exe in X:\OS2 is renamed or removed, and View005.exe is placed
  58.   in X:\OS2 and renamed View.exe, pressing F1 in 4OS/2  will bring up Thelp
  59.   instead of view.exe.  Thelp needs to be on the path for view005.exe to find it.

  61.   Thelp needs to be on the path when used like this with 4OS/2 and Help.cmd
