ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Jump to events ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Main window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This has help for all the objects on Telegraf/2's main window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.1. Message window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This is the main message window.
Double click a message to read it, or select one and use the Message pull-down
menu.
Drag a message to the Desktop to save it.
Telegraf/2 will give it a temporary name, which you can change at your leisure.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2. Message menu ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
From here you can send a new message, reply to a message, delete one or more
messages, mark one or more messages as unread (simply read a message to mark it
as read), or save the message to a separate file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.1. Send new message ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Open the Send message window and send a totally new message.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.2. Reply to message ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Send a reply to the currently selected message. Default send to is the original
sender (but that can be overridden).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.3. Delete message ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Deletes the currently selected message(s).
Deleted messages can be restored (last deleted is first undeleted) with the
Undelete command, as long as you haven't closed Telegraf/2 first.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.4. Delete message(s) read ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Deletes the message(s) marked as read.
Deleted messages can be restored (last deleted is first undeleted) with the
Undelete command, as long as you haven't closed Telegraf/2 first.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.5. Delete all message(s) ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Deletes ALL the message(s) in the file.
CAUTION:
You can not use Undelete message to restore messages deleted with Delete All.
However, see the Tips and Tricks section for a way around the problem.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.6. Undelete message ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Undeletes the last deleted message. NOT RELIABLE!
Warning: Do not assume that this will save your message! It is far safer and
better not to delete it in the first place!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.7. Mark unread ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
When you read a message, the Read icon changes from a closed, green envelope to
a red, open envelope. This turns the icon back to a green closed envelope.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.8. Save message as... ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Save the currently selected message(s) into a simple text file (suitable for
importing into other applications).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.9. Save message file ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Save the message file to disk - prevent loss of data. Usually this is done
automatically, but it sometimes helps to hear a bit of reassuring disk activity
so you know that it's saved!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.2.10. Reread message file ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If some other program has changed the message file, Telegraf/2 should
automatically reread the file and refresh the list, but just in case it
doesn't, this lets you force it to refresh.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3. Options menu ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
From this menu you can select various different options such as whether to
popup when a message arrives, set the events (registered version only), or
register Telegraf/2 (unregistered only!).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.1. Set viewed file name ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This selects the file viewed in the container. Don't have the viewed file
different from the log file when a message comes in - behaviour is undefined.
This means that Telegraf is allowed to (for example) do what it should (!),
sing a hymn (out your tiny PC speaker if you don't have a sound card!), or free
your disk of unsightly files (ie. everything except Telegraf itself). BEWARE!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.2. Set Log file name ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This sets the log file which NET uses to store the messages. It also sets
logging to ON if it was OFF.
NOTE: If logging is OFF, then (due to a limitation not yet overcome) Telegraf/2
will not see the message arrive.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.3. Show/hide Mini Window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If this has a check mark beside it (a dot in Warp 4), the Mini Window is shown
(otherwise it is invisible). Select this to toggle visibility.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.4. Mini window Sink to Back ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If checked, the Mini Window sinks to the back so that it never gets in the way
of other windows - it's part of the Desktop.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.5. Mini window Floats on top ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If checked, the Mini Window floats on top so that it can always be seen.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.6. Popup on message arrival ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If checked, you will see a popup message read window when a message arrives
addressed to you.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.7. Confirm on close ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If checked, an 'Are you sure?' box comes up when you try to close Telegraf/2.
Accidentally closing when minimizing was intended can be annoying!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.8. Events ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Opens up the Event window. This is only enabled in the registered version.
For further details, see Using Events and the Event window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3.9. Register Telegraf/2 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Register Telegraf/2 :-) When you buy a registration code (see How to Register
), select this option to tell the program that you've paid your money.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.4. User defined commands ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This menu allows you to execute commands in the same way as the events built in
to Telegraf, but you execute them with this menu. The Configure command brings
up the Configure User Commands window where you can set up these commands. As
far as I know, the number of commands is unlimited, although you will rarely
need many!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5. Help menu ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Context sensitive help, About... dialog
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5.1. Context sensitive help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Press F1 for help on any button, window, menu or menu item.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5.2. About menu item ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Displays a box displaying the author's name etc.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.6. Debugging menu ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This menu has things designed for debugging. Not all are easy to use; they
assume an intelligent person (preferably a programmer) is using them.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.6.1. Threads ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This lists all the threads. See the Things to Try when you've got a bug panel
in the online book.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.6.2. Restart monitor thread ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If the Monitor thread has stopped (as shown by the Thread info popup), this
should restart it. Failing that, restart Telegraf/2.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.6.3. Variable dump ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Makes a variable dump which can be analysed by the developer to diagnose a
problem.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.6.4. Load variables from dump ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
After making a variable dump, this will reload it. Beware! This can destroy
everything you've done! Take a copy of your .INI file first, and use only as
directed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Configure User Commands window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Configuration of the user defined commands can be done here. The Caption field
and the Caption column in the box on the right are what will be shown in the
menu. The Code field and the Code column are what will be executed. For further
details on the format of those strings, see Using Events because the strings
are identical.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.1. Caption entry field ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
What you type in here will be seen in the menu. The length is unlimited, but it
is not advisable to have long, unwieldy captions.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2. Code entry field ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
What you type in here will be executed when you select the item. For further
details on the format of the strings that you can type here, see Using Events
because the strings are identical.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.3. Add button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Adds an entry to the list with the current caption and code. Set the values
first, then press this button.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.4. Delete button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Deletes the selected command.
Warning: It can not be recovered!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.5. Change button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Changes the selected command to have the current caption and code.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.6. Save button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Saves the menu list to disk (in the TELGRAF2.INI file; that's where everything
is, so don't delete it!). If you click Close without clicking this first, you
lose all that you have done!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.7. Close button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Closes the window, without saving. Save first!
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.8. Play WAV button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To simplify one of the most common tasks, this button will display a file
dialog to allow you to select a .WAV file. If you click OK, the code in the
entry field is changed to play the .WAV file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.9. Existing commands ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This is the list of all the commands that you have set up. The Caption column
is what will be shown in the menu, and the Code column is what will be
executed. Click on an entry to copy the data back to the entry fields.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Send Message window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Send a message to another computer from here.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.1. Send Message typing box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
From here you send a message. Type in here, then click Send or Broadcast to
send the message on its way.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.2. Send button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Quick send to one destination. Simple dialogue prompts for one target name and
then sends it immediately. Keyboard shortcut: Alt-S
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.3. Send Multiple button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Send this message to more than one destination, but not limited to 128
characters with Broadcast. Keyboard shortcut: Alt-M
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.4. Broadcast button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Broadcasts the message to the whole network. See also the Special Broadcast
menu. Keyboard shortcut: Alt-B
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.5. Cancel button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Close the window without sending the message. Beware: if you have typed a
message, you will have lost it all! Use at your own risk! Keyboard shortcut:
Esc
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.6. Delete Original Message button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This button is only on the window when you are replying to a message and the
message you are replying to still exists. Click the button to delete the
original message without going to the main window (useful mostly if you used
the Reply button on the popup window). Keyboard shortcut: Alt-D
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.7. Options menu ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
From here you can customize the look of the window. All options here are saved
for next time.

Note: This only affects the message typing portion, not the buttons.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.7.2. Set Font ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This brings up a dialogue permitting you to change the font of the window.
Note: This only affects the message typing portion, not the buttons.

network, there are two other broadcasts available here.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.8.1. Broadcast to specified domain ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select a domain name to send to and the message will be sent to that domain
only.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.8.2. Broadcast to users of your resources ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Send the message to all computers connected to any of your resources. Useful if
(for example) you are going to turn off a server - everyone using your
drives/printers/serial ports will need to be warned, but nobody else.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Event window ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Enabled only when you register Telegraf/2, this window allows you to set up the
Telegraf/2 Events.
This window is opened by the Events menu item in the Options menu on the main
window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.1. Event selection tree ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Click on the plus to the left of a group description to show the events
associated with it. Click on an event name to see a brief description and the
code executed when that event occurs.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.2. Event MLE ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Type in the event code here. If the first word is REXX (case insensitive),
command is executed as a REXX command; otherwise it is assumed to be an OS/2
command. Put %* where the first argument (if any) is to be placed; otherwise it
is placed at the end. In the same way, use %& for a second argument.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.3. Save current event ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Saves the current event command.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.4. Close Window button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

on). NOTE: This is different from the Read message window which shows you an
old message.
The title bar of this window (at the top; blue by default) says who the message
is from, who it is to (to you directly, to your domain, or to the whole
network), the time and date that the message was sent, how many messages you
have (registered only), and how many unread messages you have (also registered
only).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7.1. Popup window text box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

you can select some or all and copy it to the clipboard.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7.2. Close button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

the title bar icon, the message is not marked as read.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7.3. Reply button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
