Warp 4 winos2 uses an outdated midimap.cfg file and so does not
offer those with external MIDI devices (waveblaster connector or
mpu-401 external port on game port) an option to use anything but
the OPL/FM synth. The included midimap.cfg file fixes that.
During my investigation I've found several news article about
the problem but none with an answer. Even IBM's Device Driver
Pak Site shows the included Warp4 SB16 package as "current".
This fix is probably only needed for Win-OS2 Warp 4 (I haven't
verified that it's a problem in Warp 3 Win-OS2), or for any
Warp where you don't have the options as shown in the GIFs.
You should select the name "SB16 All MIDI" since this gives you
all 16 MIDI channels. Basic and Ext are Windows hacks used to
support low-performance midi devices like the 2-op FM synth.
To install, rename your existing /os2/mdos/winos2/system/midimap.cfg
to a save name, then copy the one included in this package:
12-20-97 4:03p 25886 0 MIDIMAP.CFG
to the same directory. Then,
1. Start up WinOS2
2. Click the Control Panel in the Main WinOS2 window
3. Click MIDI Mapper
4. Select Setups (should already be the default)
5. Select SB16 All MIDI
6. Press Close
That's it. You may want to verify the hardware settings in system.ini,
under [sndblst.drv], to ensure they are what you expect, but that's not
directly related to this operation.
