ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Copy from Partition ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Copy from Partition option allows you to copy a specific file from within
your system partition to a selected directory on a logical drive. To use this
function:
1. If you have multiple system partitions, select the Partition you wish to
access from the System Partition field by clicking on it. You may also
select the appropriate Partition (or any other item within System
Partition Access) by using the arrow keys to highlight it, then pressing
Enter.
2. Select the system partition directory you wish to copy a file from by
clicking on the appropriate directory in the System Partition Directory
field. Once you have selected the directory, all files contained in that
directory will be displayed in the System Partition File field.
3. Select the file you wish to copy from the System Partition File field.
4. Select a destination drive for the file. Select the arrow at the right
side of the Logical Drive field to display a list of all available
drives. Select one of these drives as the file destination by clicking
on it.
5. Select a destination directory for the file. All directories present on
the selected logical drive are displayed in the Logical Drive Directories
field. Select one of these directories by clicking on it. All files
located in this directory will then be displayed in the Logical Drive
File field.
6. Select Copy from Partition to copy the selected system partition file to
the selected destination.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Copy to Partition ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Copy to Partition option allows you to copy a specific file from a logical
drive to your system partition. To use this function:
1. If you have multiple system partitions, select the Partition you wish to
access from the System Partition field by clicking on it. You may also
select the appropriate Partition (or any other item within System
Partition Access) by using the arrow keys to highlight it, then pressing
Enter.
2. Select the system partition directory you wish to copy a file into by
clicking on the appropriate directory in the System Partition Directory
field. Once you have selected the directory, all files contained in that
directory will be displayed in the System Partition File field.
3. Select the source drive for the file. Select the arrow at the right side
of the Logical Drive field to display a list of all available drives.
Select one of these drives as the source drive by clicking on it.
4. Select the source directory for the file. All directories present on the
selected logical drive are displayed in the Logical Drive Directories
field. Select one of these directories by clicking on it. All files
located in this directory will then be displayed in the Logical Drive
File field.
5. Select the file that you wish to copy from the Logical Drive File field.
6. Select Copy to Partition to copy the selected file into the system
partition.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Delete Directory ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Delete Directory option allows you to delete a directory from the system
partition of your system. To use this function:
1. If you have multiple system partitions, select the Partition you wish to
access from the System Partition field by double-clicking on it. You may
also select the appropriate Partition (or any other item within System
Partition Access) by using the arrow keys to highlight it, then pressing
Enter.
2. Select the system partition directory you wish to delete by
double-clicking on it in the System Partition Directory field.
3. Select Delete Directory to delete the selected directory from your
system. System Partition Access will ask you to confirm this choice to
prevent accidental deletion of a directory.
Note: The directory that you are deleting must be empty before the System
Partition Access will allow you to delete it.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Rename Directory ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Rename Directory option allows you to choose a new name for a directory
within your system partition. To use this function:
1. If you have multiple system partitions, select the Partition you wish to
access from the System Partition field by clicking on it. You may also
select the appropriate Partition (or any other item within System
Partition Access) by using the arrow keys to highlight it, then pressing
Enter.
2. Select the system partition Directory you wish to rename by clicking on
it in the System Partition Directory field.
3. Select Rename Directory. System Partition Access will ask you to enter
the new name for the selected directory.
4. Enter the new directory name and press Enter. System Partition Access
will rename the directory.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Delete File ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Delete File option allows you to delete individual files from within your
system partition. To use this function:
1. If you have multiple system partitions, select the Partition you wish to
access from the System Partition field by clicking on it. You may also
select the appropriate Partition (or any other item within System
Partition Access) by using the arrow keys to highlight it, then pressing
Enter.
2. Select the system partition directory you wish to delete a file from by
clicking on the appropriate directory in the System Partition Directory
field. Once you have selected the directory, all files contained in that
directory will be displayed in the System Partition File field.
3. Select the file you wish to delete from the System Partition File field.
4. Select Delete File System Partition Access will then delete the selected
file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Rename File ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Rename File option allows you to rename individual files within your system
partition. To use this function:
1. If you have multiple system partitions, select the partition you wish to
access from the System Partition field by clicking on it. You may also
select the appropriate partition (or any other item within System
Partition Access) by using the arrow keys to highlight it, then pressing
Enter.
2. Select the system partition directory in which you wish to rename a file
by clicking on the appropriate directory in the System Partition
Directory field. Once you have selected the directory, all files
contained in that directory will be displayed in the System Partition
File field.
3. Select the file you wish to rename from the System Partition File field.
4. Select Rename File System Partition Access will then ask you what you
wish to rename the file. Enter the new name for the file and press
Enter. The file is now renamed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Partition Backup ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Partition Backup option allows you to copy the system partition of your
system into a file on any logical drive. To use this function:
1. If you have multiple system partitions, select the partition you wish to
access from the System Partition field by clicking on it. You may also
select the appropriate partition (or any other item within System
Partition Access) by using the arrow keys to highlight it, then pressing
Enter.
2. Select a destination drive for the system partition backup file to be
written to. Select the arrow at the right side of the Logical Drive
field to display a list of available logical drives. Select one by
clicking on it.
3. Select a destination directory. Directories present on the selected
Logical Drive are displayed in the Logical Drive Directory field. Select
one by clicking on it.
4. Select Partition Backup A file of the selected system partition is then
written to your specified destination.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Partition Restore ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Partition Restore option allows you to restore your system partition using
your backup diskettes or files created with the Partition Backup function. To
use this function:
1. Select the source drive where the system partition backup file is
located. Select the arrow at the right side of the Logical Drive field
to display a list available logical drives. Select one by clicking on
it.
2. Select the source directory where the backup file is located. All
directories present on the selected logical drive are displayed in the
Logical Drive Directories field. Select one of these directories by
clicking on it. All files located in this directory will then be
displayed in the Logical Drive File field.
3. Select the backup file that you wish to use from the Logical Drive File
field.
4. Select Partition Restore to copy your backup file into the system
partition.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Delete Partition ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Selecting the Delete Partition option enables you to remove a selected system
partition (displayed in the System Partition field) from your selected Logical
Drive. After selecting this option, System Partition Access will ask you to
confirm that you wish to delete the partition. If you choose to continue, the
selected system partition (as well as all directories and files within the
partition) will be deleted.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Make Directory ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Selecting the Make Directory option enables you to add a directory to the
selected system partition (displayed in the System Partition field). After you
have selected this option, System Partition Access will ask you to provide a
name for the new directory.
Note: The System Partition Access service does not support creation of nested
subdirectories within the System Partition.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. Quit ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select quit to exit the System Partition Access.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. System Partition Field ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The System Partition field contains the adapter, physical unit number (PUN),
and logical unit number (LUN) values of your system partition. PUN and LUN are
values assigned to a device to uniquely identify it within a system.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. System Partition File Field ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The System Partition File field displays the files contained in the selected
directory of your system partition.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. System Partition Directory Field ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The System Partition Directory field displays the names of directories within
your selected system partition.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 16. Logical Drive Field ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Logical Drive field displays the drive letters of all available drives and
logical drive partitions in your system.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 17. Logical Drive File Field ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Logical Drive File field displays all files within the selected directory
of the logical drive.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 18. Logical Drive Directory Field ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Logical Drive Directory field displays all available directories in the
selected logical drive.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 19. System Partition Access ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The System Partition Access allows for greatly simplified system partition file
handling on PS/2* computers, both locally and remotely. This service features:
o Extensive file-level handling
o Initial machine load (IML) image updating
o Adapter description program (ADP), adapter description file (ADF), and
diagnostic (DGS) updating
o Set Configuration program updating
o User confirmation security to prevent accidental deletion of system
partition
o Services previously available only through use of the reference diskette

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 20. Logical Drives ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A logical drive is a drive or drive partition recognized by your system. The
System Partition Access will display all available logical drives in the
Logical Drive field.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 21. System Partitions ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A system partition is a reserved area of your hard drive that configures the
hardware of your system during start up. This partition handles many system
diagnostics as well. The specific adapters of any system partitions that are
resident on your system are displayed in the System Partition field.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 22. Available Actions ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
System Partition Access offers a variety of system partition file manipulation
actions. Available actions are:
o Copy from Partition
o Copy to Partition
o Delete Directory
o Rename Directory
o Delete File
o Rename File
o Partition Backup
o Partition Restore
o Delete Partition
o Make Directory
o Quit
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 23. Logical Drive Access ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The System Partition Access uses a simple, dynamic interface for file
selection. Using the mouse or keyboard, the user can quickly and easily select
logical drives, entire directories, and individual or multiple files for
manipulation. For more information, see the Logical Drive, Logical Drive
Directory, Logical Drive File, System Partition Access, and Available Actions
topics.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 24. System Partition Access ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The System Partition Access uses a simple, dynamic interface for file

individual system partitions, directories within the system partition, and
individual or multiple system partition files for manipulation. For more

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 25. Keys Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
When two key names are joined by a plus sign (+), use these two keys together.
Hold down the first key and press the second.
Alt+Esc
Switch to the next open window, full-screen session, or icon that is
minimized on the desktop.
Alt+Shift+Tab
Make the desktop window active.
Alt+F4
Close the local window.
Alt+F5
Return the window to the size it was and the location it was in before you
hid or maximized the window.
Alt+F7
Enable you to move the active window to a different location.
Alt+F8
Enable you to size the active window with the arrow keys.
Alt+F9
Remove from the screen the active window and all windows associated with
it. The windows are hidden or minimized, depending on how the program was
written.
Alt+F10
Enlarge the active window to its largest possible size (maximize).
Ctrl+Alt+Del
Restart the operating system on the local system.
Ctrl+Esc
Display the Window List on the local system.
Print Screen
Print the contents of the remote window to the default local printer.
