  9. To install Netfinity* on your system, follow these steps: 
  10.  
  11.    1. Select the Install From drive and directory.  This is the drive letter 
  12.       and directory that contains the Netfinity* programs files.  The default 
  13.       drive and directory for this field is the drive and directory from which 
  14.       the Netfinity* installation program was started. If you want to install 
  15.       the program files from another directory (for instance, if the files are 
  16.       available from a network drive), adjust the drive and directory in this 
  17.       field accordingly.

  19.    2. Select the Install To drive and directory.  This is the drive letter and 
  20.       directory name to which the Netfinity* installation program will copy the 
  21.       Netfinity* program files.  The default drive and directory for this field 
  22.       is C:\NETFIN, but you can install to any available drive or directory. 
  23.  
  24.    3. Select OK to continue with your installation. 
  25.  
  26.    4. Select the installation configuration appropriate for your system. 
  27.  
  28.    5. When you have selected an installation configuration, select the Install 
  29.       button to begin copying the program files to your chosen drive and 
  30.       directory. Select Cancel to stop the installation process at any time. 
  31.       This will stop installation, clean up any files that are open, and then 
  32.       close the Netfinity* installation program. 
  33.  
  34.    6. If your system will be operating on a network, the Network Driver 
  35.       Configuration window appears on your screen after the Netfinity* program 
  36.       files have been copied.  Enter the appropriate protocol-specific 
  37.       information for any communication protocols that are supported by your 
  38.       system.  Also, you may need to enter one or more System Keywords For more 
  39.       information concerning your keywords, consult your network administrator 
  40.       or the Netfinity Manager for OS/2* User's Guide.  When you have finished 
  41.       configuring your system for network operation, select Exit to close the 
  42.       Network Driver Configuration window. 
  43.  
  44.    7. The Netfinity* installation program displays a list of commands that must 
  45.       be added to your CONFIG.SYS file for the Netfinity* services to function 
  46.       correctly and asks if you would like them added now.  You can select Yes 
  47.       or No: 
  48.  
  49.         o  If you select Yes, the Netfinity* installation program automatically 
  50.            adds the commands to your CONFIG.SYS file. 
  51.  
  52.         o  If you select No, the commands are saved to a file named CONFIG.NEW 
  53.            in the Netfinity* directory, so that you can add them yourself after 
  54.            installation is complete.  Remember, these commands must be present 
  55.            for the Netfinity* services to function correctly.

  57.    8. Your installation is now complete.  Be sure to restart your system so 
  58.       that all changes to your CONFIG.SYS will take effect.

  63. The available installation configurations are displayed in the Netfinity* 
  64. installation window.  To select an installation configuration, select the radio 
  65. button next to the appropriate configuration.

  67. For detailed information concerning an individual installation configuration, 
  68. select the configuration and press F1.

  71. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Stand-Alone Operation Installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  73. Select Stand-Alone Operation if you are installing Netfinity* on a system that 
  74. is not connected to a network, but want the local system management 
  75. capabilities of Netfinity*.  This will allow a user access to the Netfinity* 
  76. services that are useful for local system management.

  78. This configuration installs base programs and interfaces for: 
  79.  
  80.    o  Netfinity Service Manager 
  81.  
  82.    o  System Information Tool 
  83.  
  84.    o  System Profile 
  85.  
  86.    o  Alert Manager 
  87.  
  88.    o  System Monitor 
  89.  
  90.  Also, Stand-Alone Operation installs any of the following services that are 
  91.  supported by your system:

  93.    o  ECC Memory Setup (requires ECC Memory present in system)

  95.    o  System Partition Access (requires System Partition present in system)

  100. Select Passive Client Operation if you are installing Netfinity* on a 
  101. LAN-attached system for simplified remote-system access and management by a 
  102. Netfinity* Manager.

  104. This configuration installs:

  106.    o  Netfinity Service Manager

  108.    o  Network Communications Drivers and Configuration program 
  109.  
  110.    o  Alert Manager base program and user interface 
  111.  
  112.    o  Security Manager user interface 
  113.  
  114.    o  All base programs for Client Services for Netfinity* supported by your 
  115.       system

  117.  Note:   Passive Client Operation is designed specifically for the remote 
  118.  management and access of Passive Client Systems by an Netfinity* Manager. 
  119.  Aside from Alert Manager and Security Manager, access to the Client Services 
  120.  for Netfinity* is not available.

  125. Select Active Client Operation if you are installing Netfinity* on a 
  126. LAN-attached system for simplified remote-system access and management by a 
  127. Netfinity* Manager, and also for improved local system management.

  129. This configuration installs the following for client system support:

  133.    o  Network Communications Drivers and Configuration program

  180. Select Install to begin installation of the Netfinity* program files.  The 
  181. files are copied from the drive and directory specified in the Install From 
  182. field to the drive and directory specified in the Install To field.  You can 
  183. stop the installation process at any time by selecting Cancel.

  188. Selecting Cancel to stop the installation process, clean up any open files, and 
  189. then close the Netfinity* installation program.

  194. The Netfinity* installation program allows you to choose one of several 
  195. installation configurations by selecting an individual radio button  A radio 
  196. button allows you to choose one of a series of mutually exclusive options, in 
  197. this case the installation configurations.  They are called radio buttons 
  198. because they function like the buttons on a car radio.
