ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Quick Start ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
PM-SAM was developed to make it easier for Ami Pro for OS/2 users to view doc
info, print and launch .SAM and text files.
The program is pretty straight forward. Use the setup option to specify your
default paths. PM-SAM creates an ini file in it's current directory. Once your
paths are set correctly, you can launch Ami Pro files by double clicking on the
filename in the file list box. Using your right mouse button you can select
options to perform. Make sure to select the file with a single click first.
After setting the default paths, you can set up custom PM-SAM files. Make sure
to set your default paths first.
Launch:
To launch a file, double click on it's filename. If Ami Pro is running, PM-Sam
will open the document in the current Ami Pro session. If Ami Pro is not
running, it is launched with the selected document.
Print:
If Ami Pro is currently running, PM-SAM will open the document highlighted and
print the document. Note that if you don't have a printer previously selected
for the document Ami Pro will ask you if you wish to save the changes to the
document after printing is complete. If Ami Pro is not running, PM-SAM will
launch Ami Pro minimized and close Ami Pro at the end of the print session. If
PM-SAM doesn't close Ami Pro for you, just close it through OS/2's Window List.
Delete:
PM-SAM will delete the file specified after confirmation from the user.
Change Attributes:
A dialog box opens with the file's current settings. You can change these
settings by selecting the proper option and clicking the change button. (This
feature can be very helpful when Ami Pro sets one of your file's to read only)
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Setting Paths ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Under the Options setting you set the paths for PM-SAM.
Ami Pro Path:
Sets the path of Ami Pro for OS/2
Ami Paths:
Points to the Ami Pro for OS/2 macros, icons, and style paths.
File Paths:
This points to the directories you wish to use with PM-SAM. Specify the
Caption you wish to use on the corresponding button, and then enter the path of
the directory. You can left click inside the directory box to bring up a file
dialog which can help you find the directory you wish to use. Don't append a
"\" to the end of a path statement.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Custom PM-SAM files ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can create custom PM-SAM (*.PMS) files to suit you needs. Under File/New,
you will get a dialog box that asks for a new filename and description. Enter
the name (up to 8 letters for FAT drives and 256 letters for HPFS drives).
Don't add the extension. You will then be prompted for the names and paths of
the directories you wish to access. Once you've created your .PMS file, you
can work with it as easily as the default. You can even register the file type
with PM-SAM and open the file directly by double clicking on it's icon, or by
specifying it as a command line option /"file".pms where file is the name of
the pms file you wish to access.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Custom Launch ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Custom launch enables the user to pre-select the macro, stylesheet and iconset
that is used in the custom launch. It does not effect a file launch. A file
will be launched with it's own defaults.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Register ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Future versions and Acknowlegements ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
First of all I would like to thank the registered users and others who helped
shape this new version of PM-SAM. I'm very open to new ideas and I'll even
customize a version for a registered user. How the next version looks and
works is up to you so let me know what you want.
Future versions of this program will be more integrated into OS/2 desktop.
Right now there are certain limitations to what I can do to integrate the
program with the OS/2 desktop. A future version of VX-REXX should help in this
process.
