  4. You can use a WordPerfect document object to start WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 and

  10. o Use mouse button 2 to drag and drop the document object on the WordPerfect 
  11.   program object to open WordPerfect with the document in an open window. 
  12.  
  13. o Use the right mouse button to drag and drop the WordPerfect document object 
  14.   on an open WordPerfect window. 
  15.  
  16. Note:  You can use the right mouse button to drag and drop the WordPerfect 
  17.        document on the Shredder object to be deleted, or on the OS/2 Printer 
  18.        object to be printed. 
  19.  
  20. WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 does not need to be running to drag the document 
  21. object to the Shredder object or to the Printer object.

  23. To make any document a template, 
  24.  
  25.  1. Click on its object with the right mouse button, click on the arrow next to 
  26.     Open, then choose Settings.

  28.  2. Click on the General tab, then check the Template check box.

  288. WordPerfect document object.

  290. To edit the document summary details, you must open the WordPerfect document 
  291. object by double-clicking on it. Once WordPerfect has started, you can bring up 
  292. the Document Summary dialog by choosing Document from the Layout menu, then 
  293. choosing Summary.

  295. The document summary details can be seen in the Details view of a folder 
  296. object.  You can also sort the contents of a folder object by a document 
  297. summary detail, or you can include only those document objects that match a 
  298. given document summary criteria (for example, include only documents that match 
  299. a given Author name).

  302. of any folder object for further information about how to display, sort by, and 
  303. include by the document summary details:

  318. Use QuickLaunch to preload a Windows session to allow PerfectOffice 
  319. applications to run faster.

  321. QLWIN supports the following command line switches:

  323.  1. /wpc=<directory> - used to specify the location of the shared code DLLs. 
  324.     If this option isn't specified, the directory specified by the 
  325.     \WPConfig\SHWin2X\Preferred entry in REG.DAT is used. 
  326.  
  327.  2. /wpcnt - used when the shared code directories are located on the network. 
  328.  
  329.    o "0" specifies that the shared code DLLs should not be loaded at all.  This 
  330.      option is normally used when a server install (of any application) exists. 
  331.      In order to allow the "WPCNET Settings" and "WPCNET Flagging" icons to 
  332.      load the proper BIF file, shared code cannot be loaded at all when they 
  333.      are executed. 
  334.  
  335.    o "1" through "60" specifies that QuickLaunch should periodically (every 1 
  336.      through 60 seconds, depending on the parameter) check for the existence of 
  337.      the shared code DLLs.  Once they exist, they should be loaded.  This 
  338.      option is normally used when a workstation install (of any application) 
  339.      exists. Because QuickLaunch is normally loaded BEFORE a user logs on to 
  340.      the network, QuickLaunch needs to periodically check to see if the user 
  341.      has logged onto the network.  Once the user has logged on, the shared code 
  342.      DLLs can be loaded. 
  343.  
  344.      Note:  If this option is not specified at all, and the shared code DLLs 
  345.             cannot be located, QuickLaunch will immediately shutdown.

  397. A document object is a graphical representation of a saved document.  You can 
  398. use the WordPerfect document objects from the Workplace Shell to open, print, 
  399. and delete documents, databases, graphics, and spreadsheets.

  401. If a WordPerfect document was not created in WordPerfect 6.x for Windows, it 
  402. will automatically be converted into a WordPerfect 6.x document object the 
  403. first time the folder containing the document is opened.  You can use the 
  404. Automatic Document Detection Utility to convert files from other word

  557. The WordPerfect Workspace folder is a special type of folder that allows you to 
  558. organize your WordPerfect document objects more easily than a regular folder 
  559. object. Workspace folders will open in Details view by default, where you can 
  560. see the WordPerfect document details (for example, Author and Typist).

  562. In addition, the Workspace folder automatically has the Work Area folder 
  563. property turned on, so that when you open the folder it will automatically 
  564. re-open all of the open documents within it, and when you close the folder the 
  565. documents that are open will also close. Using the Work Area property allows 
  566. you to easily manage different groups of documents you have been working on and 
  567. then return to that group of documents at any time.

  576. A WordPerfect Graphic object contains a picture that can be used within a 
  577. WordPerfect 6.x or 5.x document.

  579. To insert a graphic in a new document window, drag and drop the graphic over a 
  580. document window.  If the graphic is not inserted where you want, drag and drop 
  581. it to the desired location.

  583. You can insert a graphic in the current document by pressing the Ctrl key, then 
  584. dragging and dropping the graphic file object(s) onto the WordPerfect document 
  585. window.  The document(s) is inserted at the cursor position.

  946. QLWIN supports the following command line switches:

  950.     \WPConfig\SHWin2X\Preferred entry in REG.DAT is used. 
  951.  
  952.  2. /wpcnt - used when the shared code directories are located on the network. 
  953.  
  954.     "0" specifies that the shared code DLLs should not be loaded at all.  This 
  955.    option is normally used when a server install (of any application) exists. 
  956.    In order to allow the "WPCNET Settings" and "WPCNET Flagging" icons to load 
  957.    the proper BIF file, shared code cannot be loaded at all when they are 
  958.    executed. 
  959.  
  960.    "1" through "60" specifies that QuickLaunch should periodically (every 1- 60 
  961.    seconds, depending on the parameter) check for the existence of the shared 
  962.    code DLLs.  Once they exist, they should be loaded.  This option is normally 
  963.    used when a workstation install (of any application) exists. Because 
  964.    QuickLaunch is normally loaded BEFORE a user logs on to the network, 
  965.    QuickLaunch needs to periodically check to see if the user has logged onto 
  966.    the network.  Once the user has logged on, the shared code DLLs can be 
  967.    loaded. 
  968.  
  969. Note:  If this option is not specified at all, and the shared code DLLs cannot 
  970.        be located, QuickLaunch will immediately shutdown.

  974. Printing to the Network 
  975.  
  976. If you are having difficulty printing from the LPTx printer port when using a 
  977. network printer, try using the corresponding LPTx.OS2 printer port. 
  978.  
  979. To use a LPTx.OS2 printer port with a WordPerfect printer driver, you must 
  980. print to a file using the filename LPTx.OS2. 
  981.  
  982. Possible Traps While Running in Win-OS/2 
  983.  
  984. If you experience a trap in WordPerfect 6.x for Windows while running in 
  985. seamless Win-OS/2 mode, and you are using the QuickLaunch feature, you may end 
  986. up with some WordPerfect 6.x open view entries in your Window List that cannot 
  987. be closed.  The operating system has not told the OS/2-Win-OS/2 communication 
  988. mechanism that the WordPerfect 6.x for Windows application is no longer 
  989. running.  This problem has been reported to IBM. 
  990.  
  991. You can resolve this problem by closing down all of your seamless Win-OS/2 
  992. applications, then closing down the QuickLaunch application.  This will shut 
  993. down the seamless Win-OS/2 session completely.  Once the seamless Win-OS/2 
  994. session has terminated, your system should be back to normal. 
  995.  
  996. Moving Your Desktop from HPFS to FAT 
  997.  
  998. When running any Windows application in Win-OS/2 mode under OS/2 version 2.x, 
  999. it is important to choose a disk format that will enable that application to 
  1000. run to the best of its ability. 
  1001.  
  1002. With the FAT file system, all filenames and directory names have a maximum 
  1003. length of eight characters with a three-character extension (for example, 
  1004. FILENAME.EXT). 
  1005.  
  1006. With the HPFS file system, any filename or directory name can be as long as 254 
  1007. characters with more than three characters in its extension. 
  1008.  
  1009. Any Windows or DOS application you run under OS/2 version 2.x will only be able 
  1010. to use files with standard DOS filenames (as many as eight characters with a 
  1011. maximum three-character extension).  Any files with HPFS long names will be 
  1012. hidden from your Windows and DOS applications, including all files with a long 
  1013. subdirectory name. 
  1014.  
  1015. To move your OS/2 desktop from one disk partition to another without having to 
  1016. re-install the operating system, 
  1017.  
  1018.  1. Make sure you are using OS/2 version 2.1 or later.

  1020.  2. Double-click the OS/2 System folder.

  1022.  3. Double-click the Drives folder within the OS/2 System folder.
