  5. file also contains information that was not available when the
  6. online documentation for the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk was
  7. prepared.

  70. General Installation Notes
  71.  
  72. The OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk is designed as a supplement
  73. to selected PerfectOffice applications. These applications must
  74. be installed before installing the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools
  75. Disk.
  76.  
  77. While running the application setup program, no other application
  78. that uses WordPerfect shared code can be running. This includes
  79. the QuickLaunch utility provided with the OS/2 WPS Integration
  80. Tools Disk.
  81.  
  82. NOTE: WordPerfect 5.x and 6.x for Windows are the only
  83. applications supported by the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk.
  84.

  86. Normal Installation Procedure
  87.  
  88. If you are doing a Standard, Custom, or Minimum installation of
  89. WordPerfect 6.x for Windows, follow the instructions below to
  90. install WordPerfect and the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk to
  91. your system.
  92.  
  93.    1. Insert the WordPerfect 6.x for Windows Install 1 disk
  94.       into drive A, double-click the Drive A icon, double-click
  95.       the SETUP.EXE icon, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  96.  
  97.       This will install WordPerfect 6.x for Windows on your
  98.       system.
  99.  
  100.    2. Insert the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk into drive A,
  101.       double-click the Drive A icon, double-click the
  102.       SETUPOS2.EXE icon, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  103.             
  104.       This will install the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools onto your
  105.       system.
  106.      
  107.    3. Close the Drive A folder, shut down, and re-boot.  
  108.  
  109.       NOTE: You may experience a small delay as your system boots
  110.       up for the first time after installation because some parts
  111.       of the install process are performed after you reboot.

  114. Installing to a Network Server
  115.  
  116. Follow the instructions below to install WordPerfect and the OS/2
  117. WPS Integration Tools Disk to the network server.
  118.  
  119.    1. Install WordPerfect 6.x for Windows onto the network
  120.       server.
  121.  
  122.    2. Run WordPerfect 6.x for Windows from the WPCNET settings
  123.       icon in Program Manager.
  124.  
  125.    3. Do a Workstation install of WordPerfect 6.x for Windows.
  126.  
  127.    4. Run SETUPOS2.EXE. It will list both the server and
  128.       workstation installations as candidates for install.  If
  129.       both are checked, both installations will be done at the
  130.       same time.

  133. Installing to a Workstation
  134.  
  135. Follow the instructions below to install WordPerfect and the OS/2
  136. WPS Integration Tools Disk to your workstation.
  137.  
  138.    1. Make sure that the network administrator has already
  139.       installed both WordPerfect 6.x for Windows and the OS/2 WPS
  140.       Integration Tools Disk to the network server using the
  141.       instructions above.  Failure to do so will result in a
  142.       "Could not find OS2SHCWP._LL" message.
  143.  
  144.    2. Start a full screen, 3.1 Enhanced Win-OS/2 session (see
  145.       "Program Settings Screen" below).
  146.  
  147.    3. Select Run from the Program Manager file menu, enter
  148.       "<WPWin Directory>\setup", where <WPWin Directory> is the
  149.       directory where WordPerfect 6.x is installed on the server
  150.       (usually \WPWIN60), then follow the on-screen instructions.
  151.  
  152.       This will create a workstation installation of WordPerfect
  153.       6.x for Windows and allow you to run WordPerfect from the
  154.       network server.
  155.  
  156.    4. Close the Win-OS/2 session and go to an OS/2 Window
  157.       session. Go to the shared code directory on the network
  158.       server (usually \WPC20) and run SETUPOS2.EXE. Follow the
  159.       on-screen instructions.
  160.  
  161.       This will create a workstation installation of the OS/2 WPS
  162.       Integration Tools on your machine.
  163.  
  164.    5. Shut down and reboot.
  165.  
  166.       NOTE: When you reboot for the first time, you will be asked
  167.       to log in to the network so that the OS/2 WPS Integration
  168.       Tools installation can be completed. Once you log in, 
  169.       choose OK to complete the installation.
  170.

  172. Some Desktop Objects Do Not Get Installed
  173.  
  174. If some desktop objects were not installed, use the SETUPOS2.EXE
  175. program with the /fixwps option or you can check the "destroy
  176. existing objects..." option in the Options Dialog in
  177. SETUPOS2.EXE.
  178.  
  179. To use the /fixwps option,
  180.  
  181.    1. Open an OS/2 window, then go to the shared code directory
  182.       (usually \WPC20).
  183.  
  184.    2. Type "setupos2 /fixwps".
  185.  
  186. To use the Destroy existing objects option,
  187.  
  188.    1. Insert the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk into drive A,
  189.       double-click the Drive A icon, double-click the
  190.       SETUPOS2.EXE icon, then choose Install.
  191.  
  192.    2. Choose Options, Select Destroy existing objects, the choose
  193.       OK.
  194.  
  195.       This will destroy and recreate all objects from scratch and
  196.       will remove any objects that no longer exist on the hard
  197.       disk.
  198.  
  199.       This option works around a known OS/2 problem and has been
  200.       reported to IBM.
  201.  
  202.  
  203. Choice of Disk Format--Use the FAT File System
  204.  
  205. When running any Windows application in Win-OS/2 mode under OS/2
  206. version 2.x, it is important to choose a disk format that will
  207. enable that application to run to the best of its ability.
  208.  
  209. With the FAT file system, all filenames and directory names have
  210. a maximum length of eight characters with a three-character
  211. extension (for example, FILENAME.EXT).
  212.  
  213. With the HPFS file system, any filename or directory name can be
  214. as long as 254 characters with more than three characters in its
  215. extension.
  216.  
  217. Any Windows or DOS application you run under OS/2 version 2.x
  218. will only be able to use files with standard DOS filenames (eight
  219. characters with a maximum three-character extension).  Any files
  220. with HPFS long names will be hidden from your Windows and DOS
  221. applications, including all files with a long subdirectory name.
  222. For this reason, WordPerfect, the Novell Applications Group,
  223. recommends installing OS/2 to a drive with the FAT file system.

  225. information.

  228. Moving Your Desktop from HPFS to FAT
  229.  
  230. You can move your OS/2 desktop from one disk partition to another
  231. without having to re-install the operating system.
  232.  
  233.    1. Make sure you are using OS/2 version 2.1 or later.
  234.  
  235.    2. Double-click the OS/2 System folder, then double-click the
  236.       Drives folder.
  237.  
  238.    3. Double-click the disk object where you installed OS/2 (C:
  239.       by default).
  240.  
  241.    4. Look for your desktop directory in the tree hierarchy for
  242.       that disk. It should be called Desktop or OS!2 2.0 Desktop
  243.       and have an office desk icon.
  244.  
  245.    5. Once you find the desktop object, drag it to a FAT disk
  246.       partition.
  247.  
  248.    6. While your desktop is moving, do not reboot or open other
  249.       objects. Once the move is complete, wait a few seconds
  250.       while OS/2 writes all desktop link information back to your
  251.       hard disk.

  254. Program Settings Screen
  255.  
  256. Running WordPerfect 6.x for Windows under OS/2 2.1 requires some
  257. configuration of the WordPerfect Program object's Settings
  258. notebook. 
  259.  
  260. When you use SETUPOS2.EXE to install the WordPerfect Program
  261. folder, these settings are changed automatically.
  262.  
  263. To change them manually, go to the "Win-OS/2 Settings" dialog on
  264. the "Session" page of the program reference object.
  265.

  282. In addition to the above changes, the WIN_DDE and WIN_CLIPBOARD
  283. settings must be "On" (the default setting). If you have modified
  284. these defaults on either the 3.1 Session or Data Exchange pages
  285. of the "Win-OS/2 Setup" object, you will get the error message
  286. "WPWin cannot communicate with the WorkPlace Shell."

  289. Launching OS/2 Objects/Programs from WordPerfect 6.x for Windows
  290.  
  291. Launching OS/2 applications using WordPerfect 6.x for Windows
  292. requires using the DDE services available in the WordPerfect
  293. macro language. Since macros you write can be placed on the
  294. Tool Bar, on the menu, or as a keyboard hot-key, WordPerfect can
  295. be seamlessly integrated with any OS/2 application.
  296.  
  297. In order to communicate with OS/2 applications, a WordPerfect
  298. macro may use the various built-in DDE commands such as
  299. DDEEXECUTE.
  300.  
  301. This communication channel can be used to pass any type of
  302. request to a DDE server application running under OS/2.
  303.  
  304. It is possible to run an application that is not a Windows
  305. application from within a WordPerfect macro by using the
  306. WordPerfect-provided DDE server that runs inside the OS/2
  307. Workplace Shell. The relevant DDE conversation service name is
  308. "<MonitorServiceName>" and the topic is called "<MonitorTopic>."
  309.  
  310. The sample macro below opens three objects by merely talking to
  311. this OS/2 DDE service that WPWin6x provides for you:
  312.

  314.    -- A REXX command file called "C:\REXX.CMD"
  315.    -- The PM Diary Calculator program

  353. Miscellaneous Information
  354.

  356.    Printing from the Network
  357.  
  358.    If you are having difficulty printing from an LPTx: printer
  359.    port when using a network printer, try using the
  360.    corresponding LPTx.OS2 printer port.
  361.  
  362.    To use an LPTx.OS2 printer port with a WordPerfect printer
  363.    driver, you must print to a file using the filename LPTx.OS2.
  364.  
  365.  
  366.    SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY
  367.  
  368.    This line is automatically added to your CONFIG.SYS file when
  369.    SETUPOS2.EXE is run.  It prevents OS/2 from restarting all of
  370.    the applications that were running the last time you shut
  371.    down. The only applications that will be started are the ones
  372.    in your Startup folder.
  373.  
  374.    Adding this line to your CONFIG.SYS insures that QuickLaunch
  375.    will start the common Win-OS/2 seamless session with the
  376.    Win-OS/2 settings recommended for WordPerfect 6.x for Windows.

  378.    NOTE: To prevent the program from adding this line to your
  379.    CONFIG.SYS, use the /norestartobjects command line switch or
  380.    uncheck the Add SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY option
  381.    in the Options dialog.

  384.    Backup .INI Files
  385.  
  386.    SETUPOS2.EXE creates backup copies of your CONFIG.SYS,OS2.INI,
  387.    and OS2SYS.INI files before modifying them.  The backup copies
  388.    are located in the same directories as the original files and
  389.    have the extension .Wxx, where xx is a number from 01 to 99.
  390.    The first time you run SETUPOS2, the extension will be .W01,
  391.    the second time it will be .W02, and so on.
  392.  
  393.    NOTE: To prevent the program from creating the backup files,
  394.    use the /nobackup command line switch or uncheck the Make
  395.    backup option in the Options dialog.
