ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Data Sources Dialog Boxes ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Enables you to add, delete, or configure data sources. Also enables you to
install new ODBC drivers on your computer.
After installing an ODBC driver, you can define one or more data sources for
it. The data source name should provide a unique description of the data; for
example, Payroll or Accounts Payable. The data sources that are defined for all
the currently installed drivers are listed in the Data Sources (Driver) list.
The Data Sources dialog box contains the following buttons:
Setup Displays a dialog box that enables you to configure an existing data
source. You should select the name of a data source from the list
before choosing the Setup button.
Add Adds a new data source. If you choose this button, a dialog box
prompts you for the driver for which you are adding a data source.
After you select a driver, a driver-specific setup dialog box is
displayed.
Delete Removes an existing data source. You should select the name of the
data source you want to delete from the list before choosing the
Delete button.
Close Closes the dialog box and exits the ODBC Control Panel option.
Help Displays this Help screen.
Options Displays a dialog box to let you specify how the ODBC Driver Manager
traces calls to ODBC functions.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Add Data Source Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Asks you to select an ODBC driver for which you want to add a data source. The
Installed ODBC Drivers list contains the names of currently installed drivers.
(To install additional ODBC drivers, run the Setup program from the release
disks.)
To add a data source
1. From the Installed ODBC Drivers list, select the name of the driver that
the data source will use.
2. Click the OK button. A dialog box is displayed. Enter information about
the data source, such as its name, version number, or location.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. ODBC Options Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Enables you to specify how the ODBC Driver Manager traces calls to ODBC
functions.
Trace ODBC Calls
When an application initializes ODBC, the Driver Manager checks
whether this box is selected. If it is selected, the Driver Manager
begins tracing calls to ODBC functions. If it is cleared, the Driver
Manager stops tracing calls to ODBC functions.
Stop Tracing Automatically
When an application terminates ODBC, the Driver Manager checks
whether this box is selected. If it is selected, the Driver Manager
stops tracing calls to ODBC functions and clears the Trace ODBC
Calls check box. To start tracing again, you must reselect the Trace
ODBC Calls check box and restart your application.
Trace File
The name of the file to which the Driver Manager writes tracing
information. To use a different trace file, choose the Select File
button.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Install Drivers Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Lets you select ODBC drivers to install. The list shows drivers that are
available to install. Select one or more from the list, and then click OK to
start the installation.
Advanced
Displays the Advanced Installation Options dialog box.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Advanced Installation Options Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Enables advanced users to change the default settings of installation options.
Selected Driver(s)
Enables the installation program to check the version of the selected driver.
If you are installing a driver for the first time, this option has no effect.
If the check box is selected, the version of the driver will be checked. You
will see a message box if the selected drivers have the same or earlier version
numbers than any drivers currently installed.
If the check box is cleared, the selected drivers are installed, regardless of
their version number.
Driver Manager
Specifies options for installing the ODBC Driver Manager.
Install Driver Manager with version checking
The ODBC Control Panel compares the version number of the Driver
Manager you are installing to the current Driver Manager. It
installs the Driver Manager only if the version is the same or more
recent than the existing Driver Manager.
Always install Driver Manager
Installs the Driver Manager even the version is the same or more
recent than the existing Driver Manager.
Do not install Driver Manager
Does not install the Driver Manager even the version is the same or
more recent than the existing Driver Manager.
Translators
Specifies whether translators are installed. Note that translators are always
installed as a group.
Install Translators with version checking
The ODBC Control Panel compares the version numbers of the
translators you are installing to any existing translators. It
installs translators only if their versions are the same as or more
recent than the existing translators.
Always install Translators
Installs translators even their versions are the same or more recent
than existing translators.
Do not install Translators
Does not install translators even their versions are the same or
more recent than existing translators.
Versions
Displays a dialog box with a list of ODBC Components. To obtain information
about each component, scroll through the Component list.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Add Driver Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can install an ODBC driver from a floppy disk, a hard drive, or a network
drive.
To install a driver
1. Insert the disk into drive A: if you are installing from a disk.
2. Type the complete path of the install disk in the text box. For example,
a:\
3. Click OK to start the installation.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Drivers Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Lets you install or delete an ODBC driver. The Installed ODBC Drivers list
displays the drivers that are already installed.
Close
Closes the Drivers dialog box and displays the Data Sources dialog
box.
Add
Displays the Add Driver dialog to let you install a new driver.
Delete
Removes an installed driver. Select the name of the driver you want
to delete. Click the Delete button to delete the driver.
About
Shows information, such as version number, size, date, and vendor
name, for the currently selected driver.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Select Translator Dialog Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Displays a list of available translators. A translator is a dynamic link
library (DLL) that converts data from a data source before it passes the data
to an application. Translators can convert data from one character set to
another, encrypt data, or compress data.
Select a translator and click OK. Other dialog boxes may be displayed depending
on the translator you select.
