Mousepen - Lightpen Emulation Utility
Version 1.01
Introduction:
Thank you for trying Mousepen. Mousepen is a Lightpen emulation program for
use with the IBM Communications Manager (tm) program product running under OS/2 2.x.
It is designed to enable lightpen applications running in 3270 emulation sessions to
use the mouse (or other pointing device which appears as a mouse) in lieu of an actual
lightpen.
Contents of this package are:
READ.ME - What you're reading right now.
MOUSEPEN.EXE - The Mousepen control program.
MOUSEPEN.HLP - The help file for the mousepen control program.
MPENDLL.DLL - The Mousepen DLL (the code which does all the work).
INSTALL.EXE - The Mousepen installation program.
INSTALL.HLP - The help file for the installation program.
Installation is fairly simple:
Step1 - Change to the drive and directory containing the files in this package.
Step2 - Type INSTALL to execute the installation program.
Step3 - Change the destination drive/directory information as needed and click
on the OK button.
Step4 - Installation is complete. Click on EXIT to end the installation.
Step5 - An Icon for the mousepen program should now be present on your desktop.
To start the emulation, simply double-click on the icon. The program
will begin execution and an entry will be added to the window-list,
however, no window will pop up. By default, the emulation will be
enabled. It may be disabled by:
a) Double-clicking on the MousePen entry on the window-list. This
will open the mousepen window. An menu item for OPTIONS will
be present. If OPTIONS is selected an menu item for Mousepen
Control will display. If Mousepen Control is selected a dialog
box with the emulation options will appear. Currently the only
option is to either enable or disable mousepen support. After
choosing either to enable or disable the support, select the OK
button. The window should then be minimized (or hidden). If the
EXIT option is chosen or the window is closed, the emulation is
automatically disabled.
b) Closing the Mousepen application from the window list.
Mousepen will remember the enabled/disabled state of the emulation upon each
invocation of the program. OS/2 will automatically restart the mousepen program
when OS/2 is restarted.
To use the lightpen functionality, simply open an emulator session. Select a
lightpen detectable field within the session using the left mouse button and
!!VOILA!! instant lightpen!. If a non-detectable field is clicked on, the
emulator will lock the keyboard and the reset key will need to be pressed in
order to type into the session. If the keyboard is locked and a detectable
field is probed, however, the keyboard lock is reset and the field selected.
By default, the lightpen emulator will send a "Cursor Select" key sequence
(Alt-F3) to the position pointed to by the mouse. For applications that
read the cursor position when the "Enter" key is pressed, mousepen can
be configured to send the "Enter" key sequence instead. This option can
be changed from the control dialog within mousepen.
Miscellaneous Notes:
If you notice that the first time the mousepen is used in an emulation session
the field does not select, it is probably because the first mouse click is
used to bring the emulation session into focus and therefore never makes it
to the mousepen program. Once the session is brought into focus however, only
one click of the mouse button should cause the selection to be accomplished.
