  16. LAN Server Specialist(LSS) is a problem determination tool for
  17. LAN Server 4.0.  LSS consists of Agents and the Manager.  The Agents
  18. are installed on each LAN Requester and Servers to be managed, and
  19. one LSS Manager is installed on a LAN Server (or Domain Controller)
  20. per LAN domain.

  22. LSS Agents report the errors, messages, and alerts issued by the
  23. LAN Requesters or Servers to the LSS Manager.  The LSS Manager
  24. generates problem reports, which include:
  25.  
  26. (1) the error messages correlated for the same problem cause;
  27. (2) possible cause(s) for the correlated error messages;
  28. (3) recommended action to fix the problem.

  30. LSS can run on LS 3.0, too.

  33. INSTALLATION

  36. LSS is a CID-enabled (Configuration-Installation-Distribution)
  37. product.  It is easy to install on workstations in LAN environments.

  39. 1. Install LSS from the installation diskettes (LS 4.0 PRODUCTIVITY
  40. AID 3 & 4):
  41.  
  42.    To install a LSS Manager (which includes a LSS agent), insert
  43.    "LS 4.0 PRODUCTIVITY AID 3" diskette in a drive and type:

  45.         <source_drive>:\LSSINST /T:<target_drive>:
  46.  
  47.    For instance:
  48.  
  49.         A:\LSSINST /T:D:
  50.  
  51.    will install LSS in D:\IBMLSS directory.

  53.    Similarly, to install a LSS Agent, insert LS 4.0 PRODUCTIVITY
  54.    AID 3 in a drive, and type:
  55.  
  56.         <source_drive>:\LSSAINST /T:<target_drive>:
  57.  
  58.    This will install an Agent in the <target_drive>:\IBMLSS directory.

  60. 2. Create a code server:
  61.  
  62.    To create a code server from the LSS installation diskettes
  63.    "LS 4.0 PRODUCTIVITY AID 3 & 4", using command
  64.  
  65.         LSSIMG /S:<source_drive> /T:<target_directory>

  67.    For instance:

  69.         A:\LSSIMG /S:A: /T:D:\LSSINST
  70.  
  71.    will upload the LSS installation code to D:\LSSINST directory.
  72.    After that, you can install the LSS Agent and Manager from the
  73.    code server remotely.
