Pentium F00FC7C8 bug demonstration programs for OS/2 Warp, DOS and Win 3.1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Important
---------
These programs are Freeware, you can do with them what you want.
But don't modify the programs and the zip archive.
All programs demonstrate the bug in all Intel Pentium processors (MMX and
normal, but not Pentium II). It is a very dangerous bug! It stops the machine
and can under certain conditions make your machine unuseable (corrupt file
system, lost data, ...)!
Remember: You use these programs at your own risc! Don't use it on foreign
machines, it isn't a 'joke program'!
If you want to stop your Pentium processor:
- make a backup
- restart your computer
- look that there's no disk activity
- use one of the programs at your own risc!
- reset your computer
- run checkdisk for all your drives
If you use these programs on a secure machine (Pentium II, AMD,
Cyrix, ...) you will get a runtime error. But look that the DLL's
are in your libpath. If the DOS version fails, then you have a
secure processor.
IBM is working on a security patch for OS/2. You can check this
patch with these program. I hope it will work (the patch).
Programs
--------
KILL586.EXE OS/2 command line version
KILLP5PM.EXE OS/2 Presentation Manager version (push button)
KILLP5WN.EXE Windows 3.1 version (push button)
F00FC7C8.COM DOS version
Using the DLL's in your own programs
------------------------------------
The OS/2 and the Window 3.1 DLL's export a procedure with the
index 1. You can import this DLL in your programs.
I'm not responsable for what you do with these DLL's!
