  17. The HP Remote Control Panel (RCP) is used to configure Hewlett-Packard printers 
  18. connected to a network using an HP JetDirect print server (network interface). 
  19. From the HP Remote Control Panel you can select the following printer-related 
  20. functions:

  22.      View printer status and major printer capabilities 
  23.      Define the port description 
  24.      Set printer defaults 
  25.      Select network protocols 
  26.      Set the printer control panel lock 
  27.      Set remote control panel preferences

  29.  For more information on these functions, click the tab for the notebook page 
  30.  that contains the function you want and then click Help.

  32.  Note:   Any print selections made using a software application will always 
  33.  override the default settings made in the HP Remote Control Panel pages on a 
  34.  per job basis. For example, if the default for the number of copies is set to 
  35.  one in the HP Remote Control Panel, but a software application requests four 
  36.  copies, four copies will be printed.

  73. The Status page lists the model of the selected printer, the port description, 
  74. and the major printer capabilities. The port description is shared with the HP 
  75. Port Driver and is created by the administrator. This description typically 
  76. contains the location of the printer and who to contact if there is a problem.

  78. The Status Page also describes the printer's current status. The status 
  79. consists of four items: 
  80.  
  81.  Graphical Status 
  82.     A graphical representation of the current printer status. Click the Status 
  83.     Help button for additional information. 
  84.  
  85.  Status Message 
  86.     The current state of the printer. A message such as "Online," "Offline," or 
  87.     "Tray Empty or Missing" may appear. 
  88.  
  89.  Printer Message 
  90.     The message currently displayed on the printer control panel. 
  91.  
  92.  Traffic Light Icon 
  93.     Displays one of three colors to represent the current state of the printer: 
  94.  
  95.     Red            Describes an error that requires attention before printing 
  96.                    can continue.

  98.     Yellow         Describes a warning that may not require attention.

  100.     Green          Indicates that the printer is ready to print.

  211.      If the option is OFF, the printer automatically feeds paper from a paper 
  212.       tray. If the tray is empty, the printer goes offline. When the tray is 
  213.       refilled with paper, the printer automatically returns online and print.

  326. The Mailbox Mode specifies the mode of operation of the multibin mailbox, if 
  327. available on your printer. You have three options: 
  328.  
  329.  Mailbox           Users select individual mailboxes as a destination for their 
  330.                    print jobs from their printer drivers. Mailboxes can be 
  331.                    specified for an individual, group, or department. This 
  332.                    gives users the greatest control over where their print jobs 
  333.                    will go. 
  334.  
  335.  Stacker           Print jobs are stacked on top of each other, starting in the 
  336.                    bottom bin. Jobs should be removed from the top down, so the 
  337.                    printer can correctly position the top of the stack. 
  338.  
  339.  Job Separator     Each new print job goes to the next non-full bin. If all 
  340.                    bins are full, the printer starts over at the top bin. This 
  341.                    mode is most useful in environments where users print jobs 
  342.                    and pick them up relatively quickly, and where there is not 
  343.                    a high accumulation of print jobs. 
  344.  
  345.  In all cases, if the print job is too large to fit in one bin, the printer 
  346.  will continue printing to the overflow bin after the job output auto continue 
  347.  timeout has expired. By default, the overflow bin is the face down output bin 
  348.  at the top of the printer. 
  349.  
  350.  Note:   This mode can be modified only by the network administrator.

  497. the printer to print. These copies are not sorted. For example, several copies 
  498. of page 1 are printed, then several copies of page 2, and so on.

  500. If you want to print collated copies (complete copies of documents with each 
  501. copy's pages in consecutive order), use your application's print menu. 
  502.  
  503. This selection sets the default number of copies for all print jobs, not for a 
  504. specific print job. This means that, unless specified differently in your 
  505. software application, the printer will print the number of copies specified 
  506. here for every print job sent to the printer.
