  9. The Security Manager enables you to control remote access to the services on 
  10. your system.  This is done by assigning passwords to specific User ID's, and 
  11. then selecting which services this User ID/Password combination will be allowed 
  12. to access.  If an unauthorized remote user attempts to access your system, a 
  13. screen will appear asking for a valid User ID/Password combination. If a valid 
  14. User ID/Password combination is not provided, remote access to your system is 
  15. not granted.

  17. If the Security Manager has not been preconfigured, there will be a User ID 
  18. called <PUBLIC>.  This is a general security access default setting.  It 
  19. enables any system using the corresponding outgoing User ID/Password default 
  20. combination to access all Netfinity* services on your system.  Also, when a 
  21. remote system user attempts to use the Remote System Manager's Login System 
  22. action to access your system (i.e. enters a non-configured outgoing User 
  23. ID/Password combination) and fails to match a corresponding incoming User 
  24. ID/Password combination, the remote user will receive access to any services 
  25. allowed according to your <PUBLIC> configuration by default.  You can edit the 
  26. list of services available from the <PUBLIC> User ID/Password combination by 
  27. selecting <PUBLIC> from the User ID selection list, selecting the services you 
  28. wish to make available for public access, and then selecting Set to save your 
  29. configuration.

  31. To create a new incoming User ID/Password combination, and determine access to 
  32. services: 
  33.  
  34.    1. Enter a User ID 
  35.  
  36.       Enter the User ID that you are allowing access to.  You may select an ID 
  37.       from the User ID selection list, or enter a new ID in the entry field. 
  38.  
  39.    2. Enter a password 
  40.  
  41.       Enter the password that, when used in combination with the specified User 
  42.       ID, will allow access to all selected services.  This password will not 
  43.       be displayed. 
  44.  
  45.    3. Select the accessible services 
  46.  
  47.       Select one or more services from the selection list.  The selected 
  48.       services will be available to users who provide the configured User 
  49.       ID/Password combination.

  51.    4. Save your incoming security configuration

  53.       Select Set to save your configuration.

  58. This service enables you to set default User ID/Password combinations for 
  59. remote Network Addresses.  The User ID/Password combination will be tried first 
  60. when trying to gain access to the particular system you have selected from the 
  61. Remote System Manager's System Group.  If the outgoing User ID/Password 
  62. combination matches an incoming User ID/Password combination that has been 
  63. configured on the remote system, access is granted to all services that are 
  64. available using this User ID/Password combination.  If the default outgoing 
  65. User ID/Password combination does not match any of the remote system's 
  66. configured incoming User ID/Password combinations, a window will appear asking 
  67. for a valid User ID/Password combination.  If a valid User ID/Password 
  68. combination is not provided, remote access to the system is not granted.

  70. If the Security Manager has not been preconfigured, there will be a default 
  71. outgoing User ID/Password combination.  This default setting corresponds to the 
  72. <PUBLIC> default incoming User ID/Password combination.  If the Default 
  73. outgoing User ID/Password combination is available, access to any systems with 
  74. the <PUBLIC> default incoming User ID/Password is automatically granted. 
  75. However, the Netfinity* services that are available on the accessed system may 
  76. vary.

  78. Note:   Outgoing User ID/Password combinations can only be edited or created if 
  79. you have the Netfinity* Remote System Manager.

  84. Enter the User ID that, when used in combination with the specified Password, 
  85. will be allowed access to all services selected from the Services selection 
  86. list.

  99. Enter the password that, when used in combination with the specified User ID, 
  100. will have access to all services selected in the Services selection list.  The 
  101. password that is entered in the Password field must match the password that is 
  102. entered in the Verify Password field exactly.

  115. This selection list displays the names of all available services on your 
  116. system.  Select the services that will be accessible to a user with the 
  117. specified User ID/password combination.  To quickly select all of the services 
  118. listed, select Select All.  To quickly deselect all of the services listed, 
  119. select Deselect All.

  124. Enter the Network Address that, when selected for remote access from the 
  125. Network Administrator, will use the configured User ID/password combination.

  144.       password are then deleted from your outgoing User ID/Password combination

  155. This service manages the incoming and outgoing controls of security.  By 
  156. default, no security is present.  By using the Incoming Passwords and Outgoing 
  157. Passwords you can control which services are accessible to outside users.

  167. enable the Remote System Manager's Restart System action on your system.  This 
  168. will allow the remote user to restart your system on demand.

  248. The Outgoing Passwords window contains a list of all Network Addresses and User 
  249. IDs that your Security Manager is currently configured to use when attempting 
  250. to connect with a remote system. Use the Outgoing Password window to:

  252.    o  Add a new outgoing password.

  254.    o  Delete a previously configured outgoing password. 
  255.  
  256.    o  Edit a previously configured outgoing password.

  263. To create an outgoing User ID/Password combination:

  265.    1. Select Edit/Display Outgoing Passwords.  This opens the Outgoing Password 
  266.       window.

  268.    2. Select Add.  This opens the Edit Outgoing Passwords window.

  270.    3. Enter a Network Address. 
  271.  
  272.       Enter the network address of the system for which you are creating the 
  273.       outgoing User ID/Password combination in Network Address entry field. 
  274.       This must be identical to the network address used by the Remote System 
  275.       Manager to locate the remote system. 
  276.  
  277.    4. Enter a User ID. 
  278.  
  279.       Select a User ID from the selection list, or enter a new ID in the User 
  280.       ID entry field.  This ID will be used (along with the Password) when you 
  281.       attempt to access the remote system.

  283.    5. Enter a Password. 
  284.  
  285.       Enter the password that will be used in combination with the specified 
  286.       User ID to attempt to gain access to the remote system.  The password 
  287.       must be from 1 to 8 characters in length.  The password will not be 
  288.       displayed.

  290.    6. Save your outgoing User ID/Password configuration. 
  291.  
  292.       Select Set to save the outgoing User ID/Password combination.

  297. Select Edit to change a previously configured outgoing password.

  299. To edit a previously configured outgoing password:

  303.    2. Select the Network Address and User ID you want to edit.

  305.    3. Change the User ID., the Password, or both.

  307.    4. Select Set to save the new outgoing User ID/Password combination for this
