ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. System Information ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this action to create a scheduled event that will collect system hardware
information from one or more remote systems. Once collected, this information
can be saved as a history file and viewed later, printed to a printer or print
file, or exported to a database.
You can use this action to do one of the following actions for each remote
system:
o Create a History File
o Print Output
o Send Output to Database
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. History and Print File Naming Technique ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The history or print file for each system from which information is gathered
will have a different and distinct filename. This filename is generated by
taking the first four letters of the system's System Name and then applying a
mathematical algorithm to the entire System Name and generating a four digit
alphanumeric string. For example, a history file created by a Create History
File scheduled event of a system named USER1 will always be named USER11BN.HST.
This ensures that similarly named systems will not generate identically named
history files, and that each system will generate the same filename each time
the scheduled event is executed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. History File and Print Output ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select History File and Print Output if you want the scheduled event to create
history files from the collected data, print the collected data to a printer,
or print the collected data to a print file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Create History File ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
A System Information Tool history file is a binary file that contains all of
the data that was gathered by the System Information Tool. After this file is
created and saved, it can be viewed using the System Information Tool command
line interface. For more information on the System Information Tool command
line interface, see the Netfinity Manager User's Guide.
To configure the System Information Tool scheduled event to create a history
file for each system on which it is executed:
1. Select History File and Print Output.
2. Select Create History File.
3. Enter the fully qualified path for the local directory in which generated
history files will be stored in the History File Directory field.
4. Select Save to continue configuring the scheduled event.
Select Cancel at any time to close the System Information window without
saving any information.
Note: The history file for each system from which information is gathered
will have a different and distinct filename. This filename is generated by
taking the first four letters of the system's System Name and then applying a
mathematical algorithm to the entire System Name and generating a four digit
alphanumeric string. These two parts are then combined to create the
filename. For example, a history file created by a Create History File
scheduled event of a system named USER1 will always be named USER11BN.HST.
This ensures that similarly named systems will not generate identically named
history files, and that each system will generate the same filename each time
the scheduled event is executed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. History File Directory ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Enter the fully qualified path for the directory in which generated history
files will be stored.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Print Output ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To configure the System Information scheduled event to print output for each
system on which it is executed:
1. Select History File and Print Output.
2. Select Print Output.
3. Select an output device.
o Select To Printer to print the collected data to printer connected
to LPT1.
o Select To File to print the collected data to a printable ASCII
file.
If you select To File, enter the fully qualified path of the
directory in which generated print files will be stored in the Print
File Directory field.
4. Select Save to continue configuring the scheduled event.
Select Cancel at any time to close the System Information window without
saving any information.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Print Output: To Printer ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select To Printer if want the collected data to be sent to a printer attached
to LPT1.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Print Output: To File ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select To File if you want to create a print file for each system from which
data is collected.
Note: The print file for each system from which information is gathered will
have a different and distinct filename. This filename is generated by taking
the first four letters of the system's System Name and then applying a
mathematical algorithm to the entire System Name and generating a four digit
alphanumeric string. These two parts are then combined to create the filename.
For example, a print file created by a Print Output To File scheduled event of
a system named USER1 will always be named USER11BN.RPT. This ensures that
similarly named systems will not generate identically named history files, and
that each system will generate the same filename each time the scheduled event
is executed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Print File Directory ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Enter the fully qualified path for the directory to which the print files will
be copied.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Send Output to Database ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
To configure the System Information scheduled event to send output for each
system on which it is executed to a database:
1. Select Send Output to Database.
2. Select Save to save this information and open the Database Entry
Selection window.
