ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Network Driver Configuration ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This program allows the user to configure Netfinity* to use any available,
supported network interfaces. To configure the network drivers of this system:
1. Enter a name for your system.
Enter a name for your system in the System Name field.
2. Select a network driver.
Using the mouse or keyboard, select a network driver from the Network
Driver field. If your system is not part of a network, no network
drivers will be displayed. Select Exit to leave the Network Driver
Configuration program.
3. Enter additional information (if necessary)
Depending on the network driver you have selected, you may have to enter
some system-specific information for Network Driver Configuration to
correctly configure your system for network access. If additional
information is required, a field will appear below the Driver Enabled
check box. A description of the information required will appear above
the field. Enter the required information in the field to continue.
Most network drivers which require additional information will also
provide a default value for each field.
Example: If NetBIOS is selected, a field will appear below the Driver
Enabled check box. Above this field is a description of the information
required -- System Name (1-12 characters). Enter the information to
continue, or accept the default value (which, for NetBIOS, is the LAN
Requester machine name or the last 8 characters of the burned-in address
of the adapter).
Note: Many drivers will not require additional information. These
drivers will instead depend on the existing configuration for the
supported network protocol.
4. Enable the network driver.
Select the Driver Enabled check box to activate the driver when
Netfinity* is started.
5. Repeat for other network drivers.
Repeat this process to enable other available network drivers.
6. Enter System Keywords (optional).
The System Keywords will identify your system on your network. These
keywords can be used during the Netfinity* Remote System Manager
discovery process, and can help the discovery process to function
optimally. They are case sensitive. If you have any questions about the
proper keywords for your system, see your network administrator for help.
The keyword values are used for all Network Drivers.
7. Select Netfinity Options (optional)
If you want to implement one of the available Netfinity Options, select
Options..., select the options you want to enable, and then select Save.
8. Set your Network Time-Out
The Network Time-Out value may need to be increased on heavily loaded
systems or networks. Normally, this value should be left at the default
of 15 seconds.
9. Save your configuration.
When all information has been entered correctly, select the Save button.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Network Drivers ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Network Driver field displays all available network drivers supported by
Netfinity*. To select drivers for configuration, use the mouse or keyboard to
select one of the available drivers.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Save ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Save to accept all current settings and save them to a configuration
file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Exit ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Exit to end the Network Driver Configuration program.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Driver Enabled Check Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Driver Enabled check box determines whether the selected and configured
Network Driver is activated during startup of the Netfinity*. If the box is
checked, and the configuration is saved, then the driver will be activated
during startup.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. System Keywords ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The System Keywords identify your system on your network. These keywords can be
used during the Netfinity* Remote System Manager discovery process, and can
help the discovery process to function optimally. They are case sensitive. If
you have any questions about the proper keywords for your system, see your
network administrator for help.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Reset button ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Reset to return all Network Driver Configuration values to their last
saved state.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Network Time-Out ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Network Time-Out field enables you to set the default time-out period for
Netfinity* applications. The time-out period determines how long an
application will typically wait for a response to a request sent to a remote
application before a "communication error" is declared. The default Network
Time-Out Value is 15 seconds. If you have a particularly loaded system or
network, setting the Network Time-Out to a higher value can help correct
application time-out problems.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Keys Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
When two key names are joined by a plus sign (+), use these two keys together.
Hold down the first key and press the second.
Alt+Esc

Alt+F7
Enable you to move the active window to a different location.
Alt+F8
Enable you to size the active window with the arrow keys.

written.
Alt+F10

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. System Name ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The System Name helps the Remote System Manager identify your system. This name
can be anything at all.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. Options... ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Options... to open the Netfinity Options window. The Netfinity Options
window enables you to activate a variety of special Netfinity options that are
not available in the default installation.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. Netfinity Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Netfinity Options window contains special options that affect Netfinity's
network operations. Available options include:
o Force Remote Logons
o Service Execution Alerts
o Show Support Program (not available on systems running NetWare)
o Require User Authorization for Screen Access
o Disable DNS Name Resolution
Select the Netfinity options that you want to enable, and then select OK to
save these options and continue with your network driver configuration.
Select Cancel at any time to close this window without saving any options.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. Force Remote Logons ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If you enable the Force Remote Logons option, your system will not be able to
save the User ID/Password combinations that you use when accessing remote
systems. This will force you to manually logon to any remote system that you
want to access each time you access that system.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. Service Execution Alerts ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If you enable the Service Execution Alerts option, the Netfinity Service
Manager will generate a Netfinity alert whenever one of your Netfinity services
is started by a remote user that is accessing your system. The alert includes
the name of the service that was run and information about the user that
started the service.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 16. Show Support Program ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If you enable the Show Support Program option, the Netfinity Network Interface
will be visible as a minimized icon at the bottom of the display (Windows 3.1,
Windows for Workgroups, or Windows NT only), as a minimized process in the
Windows 95 taskbar, or as an entry in the OS/2 window list. This enables the
user to shutdown the Netfinity Network Interface. If you want the Netfinity
Network Interface to remain invisible to the user, do not enable this option.
This option is not available on systems that are running NetWare.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 17. Require User Authorization for Screen Access ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If you enable the Require User Authorization for Screen Access option, a
message will be displayed requesting approval when a remote user attempts to
access the Screen View or Remote Workstation Control services on your system.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 18. Disable DNS Name Resolution ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If you select the Disable DNS Name Resolution option, your system will not
resolve DNS names.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 19. OK ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select OK to save the selected Netfinity options and continue with network
driver configuration.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 20. Cancel ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Cancel to close the Netfinity Options window without saving any selected
options.
