ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. General Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The DCAF - LAN Target Directory window shows a list of target names for DCAF
target workstations running on a selected LAN and their status.
From the menu bar of the DCAF - LAN Target Directory window, you can select
from the choices listed below:
o Services
o View
o Help
Select a listed choice to view a description of each.
Below is a definition of the icons (symbolic pictures) used in the DCAF - LAN
Target Directory window.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Help for Status ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The DCAF - LAN Target Directory window displays the list of LAN target names
and their activity.
The Status listing indicates the availability of the LAN target workstation to
open a session.
Available
The target workstation is eligible for a connection.
Active
The target workstation is already engaged in a connection with a controller.
Disabled
Either the power for the target workstation has been turned off or the
Distributed Console Access Facility has been stopped.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Help for Target Names ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The Target Names listing displays the list of LAN target names as they appear
on the LAN. The target can be listed by nickname (if it exists in the nickname
file) or by LAN adapter address.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Help for Services ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Services from the DCAF - LAN Target Directory menu for the following
choices:
o Start a session
o Fast path
o Modify a Record
o List local names
o Refresh
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Help for Start a session ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to open a session with a LAN target workstation.
Select the LAN target name and press enter.
You will be prompted for the target password.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Help for Fast path ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to go directly to a LAN target name in the directory.
You will be prompted for the exact LAN target name. If you don't know or aren't
sure about the LAN target name, scroll the list of LAN target names to choose
the one you want.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Help for Modify a Record ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to change a LAN target name in the directory.
For example, you can change the target name from a number to a name that
describes the target's purpose or geographical location.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Help for List Local Names ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to view a list of all the NETBIOS names defined for the
selected target workstation.
This choice leads you to the DCAF-Target NETBIOS Names window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Help for Refresh ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to update the status only of the listed workstations.
Since the status of the LAN target workstations is dynamic, the availability of
a workstation could change from one minute to the next.
Select Refresh see the updated status of all the listed workstations.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Help for View ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use these choices when you want to change the way the items are shown in the
window.
Icon Shows the name of the item and displays an icon (symbolic picture)
Text Shows only the name of the item
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Help for Icon ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to display an icon along with the name of the item.
Select Icon on the pull-down menu under View from the DCAF - LAN Target
Directory window.
A checkmark + Icon means that the items will display in icons and names.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. Help for Text ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this choice to display only the names of the items.
Select Text on the pull-down menu under View from the DCAF - Workstation
Directory window.
A checkmark + Text means that the items will display only by names.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. Help for LAN Target Fast Path ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select LAN Target Fast Path to start a session with a LAN target directly
without searching through the LAN target directory.
For Target name:
1. Type the LAN target workstation name.
It must be 1-60 characters long.
It cannot be a substring.
It is case sensitive.
Character guidelines:
o Upper or lowercase letters (A-Z, a-z)
o Digits (0..9)
o All special characters
o Blanks not allowed
2. Select Fast Path.
Otherwise, select Cancel to leave the LAN Target Fast Path window without
starting a session.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. Help for Modify LAN Target Name ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use the Modify LAN Target Name window to change the name of a LAN target
workstation.
For example, you can change the target name from a number to a name that
describes the target's purpose or geographical location.
1. Type the new name for the LAN target workstation over the current name that
appears in the Target Name field.
It must be 1-60 characters long.
It cannot be a substring.
It is case sensitive.
Character guidelines:
o Upper or lowercase letters (A-Z, a-z)
o Digits (0..9)
o All special characters
o Blanks not allowed
2. Select Modify to make your change valid. A message will inform you of the
success or failure of the operation and the display is automatically
updated.
Otherwise, select Reset to return to the previous LAN target name.
Select Cancel to leave the Modify LAN Target Name window without changing the
name.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. Help for DCAF Target NETBIOS Names ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use the DCAF Target NETBIOS Names window to display a double-columned list of
all the NETBIOS names assigned to a specified remote LAN target workstation.
You will see the adapter address of the target workstation.
This window allows you to obtain information about the software that is running
on the target workstation. Each application must declare itself to the NETBIOS
communications subsystem if it wants to use NETBIOS services.
Scroll through the list to distinguish between NETBIOS applications running on
a target workstation.
Select Cancel to return to the DCAF - LAN Target Directory window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 16. Help for DCAF - LAN Target Password ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use the DCAF - LAN Target Password window to enter the password of the LAN
target workstation.
You will be prompted for a password if you selected a nonsecure target.
For the Target password entry field:
1. Type the password.
Character guidelines:
o It must be 4-8 characters long.
o All characters including imbedded blanks are valid.
2. Select OK.
Otherwise, select Cancel to leave the DCAF - LAN Target Password window without
validating your password.
Note: If the target was not installed with a password, you can start a
session even if you do not specify the target password. You can just press OK.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 17. Help for Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Help from the menu bar to see the following kinds of help:
Help index A list of help topics that you can select for additional
help.
General help A brief overview of the product and its functions.
Using help An overview of the help facility, the kinds of help
available, and how to access them.
Keys help A list of shortcut keys available in the product.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 18. Help for Help Index ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Help Index to see an alphabetical list of topics in help. You can scroll
through the index and select the topic you want to view.
You can also search the index using a keyword or phrase. Select Search under
Services on the menu bar of the Index Help window. You will see a pop-up window
in which you can specify the keyword or phrase you want to view. Select the
highlighted keyword to view.

Select General Help to see a general overview of the DCAF - LAN Target
Directory window functions.
Select Help for Services or View for a description of each action.

Select Using Help to see a description of the help facility, the different
kinds of help available to you, and how to access that help.

Following is a list of the keys available to you. They are grouped according
to their function.
Note: When two keys are joined by a plus sign (+), hold down the first key
while pressing the second key.

Use the following keys to act on a window.
