  1.         Firmware Update Process For DM-3024

  4.                          NOTE
  5.   Texel does not encourage it's customers to perform this
  6.   procedure.  The contents of the DM-3024 are extremely
  7.   sensitive and may be damaged.  Therefore, if the person
  8.   performing this procedure feels confident of their expertise to
  9.   perform this upgrade they must also feel confident that they
  10.   can repair the drive if any damage occurs.  In short, you
  11.   break it, you fix it!!!

  18. Refer to the attached illustration for performing this procedure.

  20. 1.      Using a flat blade razor, peel back the plastic dust wrapper on both sides
  21.         and remove entire wrapper.  
  22.  
  23. 2.      Using a phillips head screwdriver, remove all four top machine screws on
  24.         the drive.
  25.  
  26.                                                  -NOTE-
  27.                 The next steps that follow require the use of a Anti-Static
  28.                 device worn on the wrist and grounded to earth.  This device
  29.                 is commonly refereed to a Wrist Stat.

  32. 3.      Lift the CD-ROM drive cover completely off.  The cover must be
  33.         maintained horizontal while removing.
  34.  
  35. 4.      With the PCB exposed, and the assembly front facing toward you, raise the
  36.         PCB from the right side to expose the component side.  In some cases the
  37.         board may be stuck to one of the mounting screw holes.  If so, use a small
  38.         flat bladed screwdriver to pry the board loose. DO NOT BEND THE
  39.         PCB!!!

  41. 5.      With a flat bladed screwdriver lift out the existing EPROM.  The proper
  42.         method for this removal is lift up one side of the EPROM by about 3 mm, 
  43.         then do the same for the opposite side.  Continue this action until the
  44.         EPROM is completely removed.

  46. 6.      Insert the new EPROM.  In some instances these new EPROMS must have
  47.         their legs formed to match the PCB socket.  While inserting the new
  48.         EPROM ensure that no pins are bent or broken.
  49.  
  50. 7.      Carefully fold the PCB back down onto the CD-ROM chassis.
  51.  
  52. 8.      Place the sheet metal cover back on the drive.  Observe the elongated
  53.         flange on the left side.  This flange has a 1 MM recess that retains itself to
  54.         the chassis of the drive.  This flange must be fully inserted into the drive
  55.         chassis.  Please be cautious to ensure that no wires are pinched.

  57. 9.      Re-secure the Top cover using the four exist machine screws.
  58.  
  59. 10.     Place the new dust wrapper back on the cover of the drive.  This is best
  60.         accomplished by pointing the chaffered corners of the wrapper towards the
  61.         rear of the drive.  Align the four mounting holes on the bottom of the drive
  62.         with the four holes on the wrapper and place down firmly.  Turn the drive
  63.         over and fold both sides up and secure the wrapper adhesive on the top
  64.         edges of both top sides.

  67. 11.     Retrofit is now complete.
