Version 1.08
1. Added the 'numdgrambuf' parameter. It is found in the requester
section of the IBMLAN.INI file and defines buffers used by servers
to announce their presence on a Domain. The default of 14 is fine
for most Domains, but if there are 'a lot' of servers, you need more.
One user reported that 'a lot' was evidently less than the 38 they ha
had installed in a Domain. I now allocate 1 buffer for every 2
servers -- up to the maximum of 112 buffers. Oughtta do it.
2. A whole swarm of new 'assumptions' are now in Col U. These are
values which used to be used in the spreadsheet, but were not visible
to users. Some knowledgeable users might want to, in a few special
cases, modify some of these numbers --- and they can be changed here.
Be carefull to be sure to know what the current values are (write
them down) before you change them. Also, remember the basic rule of
tuning -- if you don't KNOW what it does, leave it alone!
As a general rule, angels should fear to tread in these numbers.
However, if you wish to rush in....(just kidding! 8-) )
3. A new check for the SVNETBUF area has been added. Entry server users
may see a message saying that they have too many users and telling
them to use the advanced server here. Probably not, but we found
another of those pesky 64KB areas, and have to check it out...
4. Total 802.2 RAM utilization is now displayed FYI in Cell C87.
It is also added to the total Server RAM requirements (along with
a couple other small work areas.) The sum of these now means that
unless you have a 16MB server, CNFGLS30 will recommend additional RAM.
Remember, we are doing some performance tuninghere, so if someone
tells you you don't NEED 16MB for the server, they are right.
5. The memory requirement for the cache manager and heap are estimated
in Col R now, so you can see them.
6. Numbigbufs will now never be over 80 -- could be higher in some cases
in 1.07.
7. Numreqbufs in 1.07 would be 400 if you had LANStreamer adapters. Now,
the limit is 340. I know the book says 300 is the maximum
(recommended) value, but that is to conserve RAM, and that could cost
performance. Set the generated number down to 300 if you wish.
8. Some of the formulas have been worked over to make them a bit
faster, but you might never notice.
9. The package now includes a LOGIC document. 55 pages if you print it!
Sows the calculations in a cell-by-cell fashion, and explains what
other cells are being used and what they contain. For real serious
users only. Done for the Excel version -- 123 will be a bit different
in cells where concatenation of alpha and numeric fields is required.
1-2-3 USERS. Be sure you watch Col "D" to see error messages!!
That is where they display as needed, but you may not see the column.
Review it for each of the first four screens.
