Subject: Tuning spreadsheet
The LS documentation now includes all rules used by CNFGLS13. See the
Network Administrator's Reference - Vol 2, Performance Tuning.
If you wish to load the ENTIRE PACKAGE (seems the documentation never
gets uploaded), please do so. There are several generic comments to
make about the results it generates, tho.
I have no 2.0 or 3.0 spreadsheet. The new product, START/2
is available for the LAN Server 3.0 release. It and the C/I/D stuff
make a great package for LS admin use. START/2 is much preferable to
the spreadsheet, and does a lot more than it does. Few folks seem
to know much about it tho. Hope the word gets out soon.
CNFGLS13 can be used for LS20/30 with a few exceptions.
1. The NET1 line uses NETBEUI$, not NETBIOS$
2. For Advanced Server, ignore the 'numbugbufs' recommendation.
3. " " " " " 'diskcache' "
4. " " " add diskcache number to hpfs' cache value.
5. The srvheuristics' value for digit 15 should be a '1'.
I have no access to the CNFGLS13 tool now, so the digit
number may be wrong - users should check it out first.
CNFGLS13 will set it to '0' if there are fewer than 60 DLR's.
For LS20 and 30, it should always be '1'.
Memory calculations are probably off -- to be safe, subtract 1 Meg from
cache. Check with SPM/2 when available.
Use the generated values to be found to the right of the top screen --
not the generated INI file found at the bottom of the spreadsheet.
Then, plug the numbers into the LS20 INI file and PROTOCOL.INI file.
Numbers 1 and 5 above apply to both the entry and advanced servers.
