  11. Brief:    Replacement for IBM's LOGIN.  Encrypted passwds, Event Logging, etc.

  13. What:     Replacement for IBM's LOGIN.EXE.  Our version offers more security
  14.     than IBM's offering, in the form of an encrypted password file.
  15.     With APLogin, the host has the ability to create accounts for remote
  16.     users on his/her machine.  Additionally, the login messages can be
  17.     customized as the user desires.  Information such as site address,
  18.     current events, and other relevant information could easily be
  19.     part of the login messages.  Additional option allows event logging
  20.     of all login attempts, successful or unsuccessful.  Note that it is
  21.     NOT a stand-alone product, and Requires IBM's Base TCP/IP package
  22.     to be of any use.

  24. OS:    OS/2 2.1GA.  Might work under OS/2 2.0 or 2.01, but has not been
  25.     tested under these circumstances.

  42. Why:    We knew that security for OS/2 equipped machines on the internet
  43.     can be very expensive.  However, the main need for security is only
  44.     at the initial login, as most PC's do not have the horsepower to
  45.     support many users at once.  To solve this, we created APLogin.  It
  46.     provides a password protection scheme that is as secure as any Unix
  47.     system.  Additionally, if our program is stopped for any reason, the
  48.     socket connection is broken immediately.  If a person does not have
  49.     an account on your system, he or she cannot break in.  Because of
  50.     what it offers, we feel that the $5 registration fee is reasonable.
  51.     A full blown security implementation requires hundreds, if not
  52.     thousands of dollars worth of software and/or hardware.  This is why
  53.     we decided to charge a registration fee at all.

  55.     For price/performance, we feel that APLogin is the best product
  56.     around.
