  40. Trash Can supports the File Manager's "Drag and Drop" interface in OS/2 version 
  41. 1.20 and later. This interface provides a convenient way to remove a directory 
  42. or a file or files that have been selected by the File Manager. To use the 
  43. interface: 
  44.  
  45.   1. select a directory or one or more files in the File Manager 
  46.  
  47.   2. hold down mouse button two 
  48.  
  49.   3. drag the directory or file(s) over Trash Can window or icon 
  50.  
  51.   4. release mouse button two to drop the directory or file(s) 
  52.  
  53.  Note:  you should drop files over a copy of Trash Can that is running, not 
  54.  over a icon in a Desktop Manager Program Group Window.

  56.  When you drop a directory or one or more file on a Trash Can window or icon a 
  57.  "confirmation" dialog box is optionally displayed. 
  58.  
  59.  Note:  The default options in Trash Can are to ask for user confirmation 
  60.  before deleting the directory or file(s), this may be changed via the Options 
  61.  pull-down.

  66. The OS/2 File Manager isn't the most versatile file management program, but it 
  67. is the only one available for OS/2 with a Presentation Manager interface. The 
  68. best way to learn to use it is to experiment and read the online help. 
  69. Pull-down all the menus, and if you don't know what an entry does, select it 
  70. and press the F1 key for context sensitive help. 
  71.  
  72. Here are two hints for using the File Manager. Your suggestions for additional 
  73. hints are welcome. 
  74.  
  75.   1. By default the File Manager does not list file sizes and modification 
  76.      dates. 
  77.  
  78.      You can change this by selecting "File details" from the "View" pull-down 
  79.      menu. 
  80.  
  81.      To automatically list files by date select "Sort by" from the "View" menu 
  82.      and click on "Last modification date" in the "Sort by" dialog box and 
  83.      check the "Set system default" button before closing the dialog box.

  85.   2. To open directories in the File Manager's tree display, double click on 
  86.      the name, not the icon. Clicking on the icon can expand or collapse a 
  87.      branch of the tree, depending on whether there is a plus or minus sign in 
  88.      the directory icon.

  153.   1. Show listbox of file names this option if selected will show a listbox of

  156.   2. Sound when deleting this option if selected will sound a beep when 
  157.      deleting a file, directory or subtree.

  159.   3. Refresh File Manager this option if selected will send a message to the 
  160.      File Manager to refresh the current directory display.

  165. There are 2 options that you may either elect to use. 
  166.  
  167.   1. Confirm on removal this option if selected will set the default for the 
  168.      multi-line edit box which will display the name of the file or files to be 
  169.      removed. You may change this as a default or selectively change it when 
  170.      the the multi-line edit box is displayed. If this is selected a dialog box 
  171.      asking for confirmation before the file or files are removed. 
  172.  
  173.      When the dialog is presented, there are 3 choices: 
  174.  
  175.     o YES will allow the file to be removed. 
  176.  
  177.     o NO will not allow the file to be removed but the process will continue. 
  178.  
  179.     o CANCEL will cancel request, which may include other files if multiple 
  180.       entries were selected. 
  181.  
  182.   2. Confirm on subtree removal this option if selected will set the default 
  183.      for the multi-line edit box which will display the name of the directory 
  184.      to be removed. You may change this as a default or selectively change it 
  185.      when the the multi-line edit box is displayed. If this is selected a 
  186.      display a dialog box asking for confirmation before the directory and ALL 
  187.      entries in the directory ( including subtrees ) are removed.

  189.      Warning: You will only be asked for confirmation once (at the directory 
  190.      level) and not for every item in the directory. 
  191.  
  192.      When the dialog is presented, there are 3 choices: 
  193.  
  194.     o YES will allow the directory to be removed. 
  195.  
  196.     o NO will not allow the directory to be removed but the process will 
  197.       continue.

  280. Trash Can has detected that either the window position(s) or options have 
  281. changed from when the program was last started. The following are options:

  283.  o OK will save the current window positions and option settings then will 
  284.    allow program termination to continue. 
  285.  
  286.  o NO will NOT save the current window positions nor options but will allow 
  287.    termination to continue. 
  288.  
  289.  o CANCEL will NOT save the current window positions nor options and will NOT 
  290.    allow program termination to continue.

  295. This choice removes the file or files from the current drive. 
  296.  
  297. The delete field shows the name of the file or files you selected. 
  298.  
  299. To delete the selected file, click on Remove (or select it and press 
  300. Ctrl+Enter). 
  301.  
  302. If you need to change the name shown, type over the name you initially 
  303. selected. then click on Remove (or select it and press Ctrl+Enter). 
  304.  
  305. A message is displayed asking you to confirm the task. You can still Cancel 
  306. task if you need to. 
  307.  
  308. The default for the Confirm on remove and the Confirm on subtree removal 
  309. message is on. To change the default to OFF, select Options pull-down. 
  310.  
  311. You can also choose to change the way messages are displayed at the time you 
  312. remove the file. This is useful if you do not want to change the default. 
  313.  
  314. Confirmation choices are as follows: 
  315.  
  316.  o REMOVE will allow the entries in the listbox to be removed. 
  317.  
  318.  o CANCEL use at any time to remove the pop-up window. No information is saved.
