  1. THIS IS THE README FILE FOR THE PERSONAL TSO DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM

  4. WHAT IS PERSONAL TSO?
  5. --------------------

  7. Personal TSO, from HeteroGenius, is a program which allows you to
  8. use your PC to:
  9.  
  10. * submit jobs to MVS
  11. * retrieve the output from jobs you have submitted
  12. * send files to MVS
  13. * receive files from MVS
  14.  
  15. without the need to be logged on to mainframe TSO.
  16. In fact, you don't even need to start 3270 emulation.

  18.  
  19. WHAT DO I NEED TO RUN THE DEMONSTRATION?
  20. ---------------------------------------

  22. You will need a PC/AT, PS/2, or equivalent, with OS/2 Extended
  23. Edition Version 1.2 or 1.3, or OS/2 Version 2.0 installed.

  25. You need to include REXX when you install the operating system.

  28. HOW DO I START THE DEMONSTRATION?
  29. --------------------------------

  31. Place the demonstration diskette in drive A, go to an OS/2
  32. command line prompt (windowed or full-screen), and type:
  33.  
  34.     a:hptdemo
  35.  
  36.  
  37. This is a hands-on demonstration using the actual Personal TSO
  38. panels and dialogs.  The only difference between the demo and the
  39. real thing is that communications with MVS are simulated by the
  40. demonstration program.

  42. Follow the instructions on the screen.    Try out all of the
  43. functions.  When you need to enter a value, such as the name of
  44. the host system or the name of an MVS dataset, you will find that
  45. the demonstration program has often supplied a suitable value for
  46. you.  You can either use the value provided, or experiment by
  47. entering your own values.

  50. HOW DO I OPERATE PERSONAL TSO?
  51. -----------------------------

  53. You'll find that Personal TSO is easy to operate if you have
  54. already used TSO and ISPF/PDF.    Here are some tips:
  55.  
  56. * Press F1 if you need help
  57.  
  58. * Press Enter to go on to the next panel
  59.  
  60. * Press F3 to go back to the previous panel
  61.  
  62. * Three asterisks at the bottom of the screen means that Personal
  63.   TSO is waiting for you to press Enter.  Just like mainframe TSO.

  66. And if you're a TSO user, you'll feel at home with Personal TSO's
  67. keyboard layout too.  Just remember:
  68.  
  69. * You can use the right Ctrl key as the Enter key. That makes it
  70.   easy if you're used to a 3278-type mainframe keyboard, because
  71.   the Enter key is in the same position -- at the bottom, to the
  72.   right of the space bar.

  74. * The carriage return key <┘ works just the same as on a mainframe
  75.   keyboard -- it moves the cursor down to the first field on the
  76.   next line of the screen.

  79. WHAT WILL I NEED TO RUN THE REAL PERSONAL TSO?
  80. ---------------------------------------------

  82. To use Personal TSO you will need a PC/AT, PS/2, or equivalent,
  83. with OS/2 Extended Edition Version 1.2 or 1.3, or OS/2 Version
  84. 2.0.  You will need to include REXX and the OS/2 Communications
  85. Manager when you install the operating system.    If you are using
  86. OS/2 Version 2.0, the Communications Manager comes as part of a
  87. separate product called Extended Services.

  89. You will need a communications adapter to connect your PC to the
  90. host system. Any adapter supported by OS/2 for APPC communications
  91. can be used.

  93. You will also need the Personal TSO host component installed on
  94. all MVS systems that you wish to communicate with.

  96. The demonstration program does not require the Communications
  97. Manager or the host component of Personal TSO.
