The following are a couple of Microsoft Flight Simulator 3.0
checklists to use to get connected for multi-player flight using
modems. The information presented here is condensed from a
series of articles by CompuServe GAMERS forum, Flight Simulators
area (#10) SysOp Rick Lee, 71361,667. The articles appeared in
a series of four in
the Computer Pilots Association of America (CPAA) newsletter

Multi Player Checklist
To Place Call:
1. Use 1,5,1 to access Multi-Player Menu
2. Set Baud Rate and Comm Port
3. Press 5, "Wait for ring", watch for "OK" to appear in
window, a response from the modem.
4. Press 5, "Wait for ring" AGAIN, watch for "+" (plus sign) to
disapear from beside menu choice 5.
5. Press 3, "Messages", watch for red cursor in window.
6. You may now type commands to the modem directly, provided
you use the "<" (less than charactor) preceeding any command
followed by an enter key. An example of a command to DIAL using
TOUCH tone dialing (do not dial the quotes) : "<ATDT 555,1212".
This command will dial the number 555-1212 with the comma
causing a pause in the dialing. To DIAL using pulse dialing use
the command "<ATDP" followed by the telephone number. Some
telephones equiped with call forwarding can temporarily disable
that function by prefixing a "*70" that's star seven zero on the
number, example "<ATDT *70,555,1212"
7. When you have connected to the other system, press 1- Online
and wait a second or two, then press 2- Send aircraft a time or
three (press a couple of times because this doesn't always seem
to work on the first keypress).
8. Now you may press 3- Messages to type a message to your
partner.
9. Press <ESC> twice to clear the menus and start flying!
To Recieve Call
1. Use 1,5,1 to access Multi-Player Menu
2. Set Baud Rate and Comm Port
3. Press 5- Wait for ring, watch for "OK" in message window
4. Press 5- Wait for ring AGAIN, watch for "+" to disapear.
5. Press 3- Messages, and type "<ATS0=1" without the quotes and
making sure to use a zero not a capital Oh. This command tells
the modem to answer on the first ring of the first incomming call.
6. After modems have connected the computers, type 1- Online,
wait a second, then type 2- Send aircraft a couple of times, you
can then type 3- Messages to talk to the other player, or hit
<ESC> twice to clear the menus and begin your flying.
Hints.
You might use autopilot to coordinate altitudes of your aircraft.
Approach the other plane slowly for formation flying.
Use the track view to spot the other airplane.
The leader should fly as steady as possible, hardly ever
touching his controls.
