  2. Installing Dual Boot on Your Computer
  3. -------------------------------------------------------------------------

  5. This file contains information on installing the MS OS/2  dual-boot
  6. option on your computer. The dual-boot option allows you to choose
  7. between the MS OS/2 and DOS operating systems each time you "boot" or
  8. start your computer, either by turning it on or by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL.

  10. During dual-boot installation, you need the following items:
  11.  
  12. - A DOS start-up disk that contains the files CHKDSK.EXE and either
  13.   SYS.COM or SYS.EXE.
  14.  
  15. -The disk labelled "Dual boot disk" from your MS OS/2 package.
  16.  
  17. You will also need to know the location of the start-up files
  18. (AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS) you will use when you run DOS.

  20. To install the dual-boot option on your computer, follow these steps:
  21.  
  22. 1. Install MS OS/2 on your computer.
  23.  
  24. 2. Insert a DOS start-up or boot disk in drive A and press CTRL+ALT+DEL.
  25.  
  26. 3. Remove the DOS start-up disk and insert the disk labelled  "Dual boot
  27.    disk". This disk contains the Dualboot utility.
  28.  
  29. 4. At the DOS A: prompt, type the following command:
  30.    
  31.         dualboot
  32.  
  33. The dual-boot setup utility starts. Follow the    instructions on the
  34. screen to complete the procedure.
  35.  
  36. After you install the dual-boot option on your computer, a message
  37. appears each time you start your computer, asking you which operating
  38. system you want to run.
  39.  
  40. You can turn the dual-boot option on or off or change any of the
  41. settings by running the Dualboot utility again. After you initially
  42. install dual boot on your system, you can run the Dualboot utility from
  43. either MS OS/2 or from DOS.

  45. Re-installing or updating MS OS/2 or DOS will remove dual-boot.  If MS
  46. OS/2 is re-installed, rerunning the dual-boot setup utility will
  47. re-install dual-boot.  If DOS is re-installed, MS OS/2 will have to be
  48. re-installed before rerunning the the dual-boot setup utility.

  51. WARNING:
  52. After you install the dual-boot option on your computer, you'll find
  53. copies of both the MS OS/2 and DOS configuration files in the root
  54. directory of your hard disk. When you start MS OS/2, the MS OS/2
  55. configuration files are renamed CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT and the DOS
  56. configuration files are renamed CONFIG.DOS and AUTOEXEC.DOS. When you
  57. start DOS, the opposite renaming process occurs: the DOS configuration
  58. files are renamed CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT; the MS OS/2 files are
  59. renamed CONFIG.OS2 and AUTOEXEC.OS2. The configuration files with the
  60. standard names and extensions always correspond to the operating system
  61. you start. Both sets of configuration files are necessary for the
  62. dual-boot option to work. Do not delete or rename these files.
