Snapshot.bat
Sys.bat
This is my brute force solution to formatting DOS bootable floppies using
OS/2 2.0.
Snapshot.bat copies your DOS boot sector, dos system files (io.sys and
msdos.sys for MSDOS, or ibmbio.com and ibmdos.com for PCDOS), and command.com
from a bootable diskette. It stores these files in the current directory.
Sys.bat takes the files saved above and places them on a BLANK formatted
floppy. The floppy need not be the same type as the one that contained
the original boot sector, the appropriate boot sector parameters are used
from the destination floppy. Also, serial number and any volume label
are also retained in the destination floppy.
You can always make another .BAT file that will perform the format command
before calling SYS.BAT if you like.
I appologize for the ineligance of this, but it works. After all, if you
are using OS/2 like I am (no DOS or dual boot at all), then how often do
you need to make a DOS bootable floppy?
I would appreciate suggestions and feedback. I am probably going to
automate this into a couple of real executeable files when I find the time.
I can be reached on Compuserve via email or generally in the IBMOS2 forum.
Enjoy.
