There is a problem with IBM OS/2 2.1 Demonstration CD-ROM in that there is
no procedure to create the 2 required installation diskettes with a DOS-only
system. The existing procedure requires an OS/2 system with REXX installed
in order to complete the procedure.
Therefore, this package contains images of the two diskettes needed to boot
a CD-ROM system, so that you can install OS/2 2.1 and the demo files from
the CD without first having to install (and then destroy!) OS/2.
The diskette images are:
21DEMOA.DSK
21DEMOB.DSK
These are equivalent to OS/2 2.1's Installation, and Disk 1. However, they're
not identical, since there is some configuration information which refers
specifically to the OS/2 2.1 Demonstration CD-ROM.
In addition to this package, you'll also need a copy of IBM's LOADDSKF.EXE
program. If you don't already have a copy, you can obtain it from IBM's
PC Company BBS system. The phone number is 919-517-0001. Download the file
called LDF.COM from directory 10. When you execute this file, it will
automatically unpack into the LOADDSKF.EXE program you need.
If you haven't already done so, unZIP 21DEMOCD.ZIP to get the diskette
image files. Format two 1.44mb 3.5" diskettes and label them as:
OS/2 2.1 Demo CD-ROM Installation
OS/2 2.1 Demo CD-ROM Disk 1
To unpack the .DSK files:
Insert the Installation diskette into drive A: and key:
LOADDSKF 21DEMOA.DSK A:
Next insert Disk 1 into drive A: and key:
LOADDSKF 21DEMOB.DSK A:
Once both diskettes have unpacked without error, you're free to erase the
following files:
21DEMOCD.ZIP
21DEMOA.DSK
21DEMOB.DSK
LDF.COM
LOADDSKF.EXE
README.CD (this file)
You're now ready to boot the system with the Installation diskette. BEFORE
YOU DO SO, make sure you read the README.NOW file on the CD-ROM to determine
which kind of installation you wish to do.
